Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Good chance Rex comes back, but it probably also depends on who else might hit the wire. Beck should be gone I think. Crompton... who cares.
Beck was ten times worse than Rex. At least Rex moved the ball, Beck looked like a scared rookie all over again. It doesn't matter if Rex is unsigned or not, Beck will not be coming back. We gave him over a year to learn the playbook while riding the bench, and he still failed miserably. Our backup will either be Rex, a free agent, or a rookie we take in the later rounds of the draft. But I bet it won't be Beck.
Beck basically was a rookie. That's why I said to keep him out there in a lost season. Beck had mobility that Rex did not, and did not fumble whenever anyone breathed on him. He had a few advantages over Rex. Doesn't matter which one is our backup, we're screwed if either of them have to play. Rex will move the ball and keep the games close, but will always choke when it matters most. |

Rex knows the offense well, good teammate. Cheap and available. I tried, that's all I can come up with. |

I tried, that's all I can come up with.
Those are the only reasons we'd bring him back. I honestly think we're gonna go in an entirely different direction this offseason. |
why?
I guess its because I'm always pulling for an underdog and Crompton is an underdog. But even with Grossman, while throwing for over 3,000 yards and moving the offense, the guy was still pitiful playing QB. Almost to the point that there have been mentions in the Washington Post about the Redskins taking the option of not re-signing him. Beck...I don't want to say anything else about Beck. He's a total bum. Although Crompton is young(24), would he really be that much worse than Beck or Grossman? |

I really don't know anything about the guy, so I could care less. I know fans tend to have a soft spot for the unknown backup QB, but when does that guy ever pan out? Trent Green was probably the last one here. And that was ages ago. |

Might be a bit risky to not have one QB in the stable experienced in Mike/Kyle's esoteric system. Also if Rex is as good a guy as reported he could help RGIII develop. |

I would do a combo of RG3, a rookie, and either Rex or some vet that has experience in the Shannies' system. There doesn't appear to be many of them on the market though, so we might have to settle for Rex. |

It still hurts though. So does Stan Humphries. |

Deepest quarterback stable...ever? |
Re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
The Redskins were on the trail of Matt Leinart last off season after the lockout ended. With Leinart being released by the Houston Texans days ago, and given his availability to sign with a new ball club, should we go after him as a primary back up for RG3? The offense in Houston is practically the same offense in Washington so Leinart would already know the offense.

Well, he was released because he failed his physical so it may be a while before he starts to talking to teams. He's still working on getting healthy
