Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
It’s unclear whether or not Davis will factor into the starting equation with the Redskins, but he has the athletic upside to do so. At 6-foot-1, 203, Davis has 4.46 speed and a 37.5-inch vertical, encapsulating very good athletic range and explosiveness. Julie Donaldson of NBC Sports, who has good tie-ins with the Redskins, stated on Twitter that the team “wanted someone to play opposite Landon Collins”. It appears as though Davis could be that player. He’ll likely compete with Montae Nicholson, a player in a relatively similar situation.
Davis will have to be more consistent in D.C., as well as stay healthy, but he has a very exciting athletic profile, as well as an intriguing mix of experience and youth; he’s only 26 years old, but he’s already started 41 career games. It’ll be up to the Redskins coaching staff to glean production from his potential, and if they can, Davis could outplay his contract value. https://riggosrag.com/2020/03/18/redskins-sign-former-steelers-maryland-standout-fs-sean-davis/ I havent seen a lot of Sean Davis in the NFL (watched him alot w the terps) but it appears he is a more center field deep-ball safety and should match up nicely with Collins .. at least on paper. 5 M, 1 year ... I like the addition. Hopefully he can be an above average starter for us.
If he can make fewer boneheaded decisions on and off the filed, he'd be an upgrade from Nicholson. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
I’m still butt hurt that we didn’t get Hooper. I think Rivera was really focused on Cooper and thought if they just out-bid Dallas that we could get him. But there are no taxes in Texas and it’s not like Washington or Snyder has a good reputation in the NFL. The Redskins could not get both Cooper and Hooper so their money was there for Amari and Cleveland wanted Hooper badly and Hooper wanted to go there .
The rest of FA has been pretty much a non-event for the Redskins. It’m glad to see Fuller come back and I think he will shine here. I was pretty sure that Trent was gone, but an unintentional benefit of the Cooper non-signing was that he could stay here if Trent would drop his price. A possibility, although if it happens it will be much closer to the draft. If we get the second round pick, it will go toward a TE. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Glad we didn't sign him. It would be the type of signing like so many we've had around here. It's great when the deal is done, then in 2 years when he has 50 catches for 550 yards and 4 td's everyone would be pissed off and call it another FA bust. We can easily find someone in the draft that is as good or better than Hooper and pay that person on a rookie deal. |

100% agreed. Let's stop acting like Ebron and Hooper are Gronk and Kelce already. That being said, TE is the only spot that I'm worried about, so I hope they have a legit plan in FA. |

It would take a major screw up not to improve that position. |

Sucks that's a signing I would have loved us to get... Definitely not joining the "it's a catastrophic FA, Rivera has no plan" bandwagon, but it's not exactly the FA we were hoping for either. But I'll tell you what, I was curious to see what our former roster would be worth under a true coaching staff, I guess we'll kinda find out. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
We will get our TE in the draft and he’ll be good, Kyle will find someone.

Can't remember his name to save my life but Cooley was pretty high on a TE coming out of this draft on Sheehan's podcast the other day. |

Also believe Ron wants to see exactly how the players he has fits in the team/scheme this coming year. But the sense within the building is this team isn’t in a long rebuild..that Ron, Kyle and lil danny believe this could be a quick turnaround with the young pieces they have. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
I sure hope the draft is way more exciting than free agency.

Yeah...Cooley had a bunch of guys he worked with at some event and has said while not elite prospects this year, there is a decent group of talent. As we get closer they will come into focus. I know one guy who is a sleeper is a guy from Georgia. He said as we get closer he will climb. Charlie Woerner...H-back-type tight end. |

Check out some film on Harrison Bryant, Cole Kmet, and Adam Trautman. Let me know what you think. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Bryant is my favorite of that bunch but it's also very rare to rely on a rookie TE to be that guy

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Frankly, I am pretty disgusted with our FA so far, particularly at TE and wide out.

That's pretty strong feeling.. Would you prefer for Redskins to try and outbid everyone just for the sake of having the supposedly best available players (even if they are not the best playmakers in the NFL)? |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Frankly, I am pretty disgusted with our FA so far, particularly at TE and wide out.
Disgusted? After years of Bruce Allen, your disgusted because Cleveland made Hooper the far-and-away highest paid TE in the NFL and Cooper turned down our ridiculously high offer to stay with Dallas? Really? I'm actually pleased that Cooper saved us from ourselves, as I think he's a very good, but not great, WR and that he would be unlikely to be worth what we offered him over five years. And Hooper got lucky that none of the top-tier guys were FA this year. He was the best available and got overpaid. I had no interest in Ebron, who refuses to even try to block anyone. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Just a thought, but it makes some sense to save some of this years cap, get the team on the right path, find out what they have with the current players and install the "culture" they want, and then roll over a chunk to next year when (hopefully) they might look like a far more attractive proposition and in a better position to compete by adding one or two high priced free agents.
|
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Being that we're three days (officially) into FA; I like the moves we've made so far.
Would like to see us add a TE (Tyler Eifert, Delanie Walker) or a CB (Logan Ryan, Pierre Desir, Breeland?) At WR, I know he's a headcase off the field and isn't a Rivera guy, but I would take a flyer on Anderson. *ONLY on a 1 year incentive based deal* |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
We have done pretty much nothing to give Haskins more weapons other than add a backup level tight end. Yet if he struggles, there plenty of fans here ready to declare him a bust. Heck even Rivera refuses to acknowledge him as the starter. Yet there has been no real effort to give him anything better to work with. That is my concern.

Yes, i agree. How much of the cap can you roll over? Is there a percentage? I also think if we have space we don’t use, if we do want a deal with Schreff, why not front load it now and give us flexibility down the road? |

He was drafted the same year Vernon Davis was and has been healthy for 1/3 of the games the last two seasons. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Getting front loaded deals with their own guys is also a good way to go, I would have thought they would revisit Dunbars contract given how reluctant they were to pay the FA CBs
|
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Like the G signing more than I did at 1st. Gives us a lot of swing versatility. I want Martin to win the starting LG position so the guy we just got can back up the interior guys.
Really like the LT signing. Big man good at pass protection. Obviously cool to have Fuller back. Really hope Sean Davis is our FS answer and we lock him up long term before the new league year starts. TE is a problem but still lots of time in FA and this little thing called the draft. And we'll have Chase Young in about a month. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
I'm sure they have a plan in place. I'm fine with not signing Cooper or Hooper. Let's leave it to the experts and hope they know what they're doing and right the ship we will see the plan start to unfold as the draft approaches and then happens

1. Schreff get done 2. if the market is not there for Trent, A. revisit a short term extension with higher guaranteed money B. or just guarantee this year contract and bring him back. You could also trade him during the season as well. |
Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
Wouldn't mind them bringing in B. Perriman and D. Walker, if RR thinks they would be a good fit, but I don't want them to just plug holes with anybody... So far I've been happy with the moves (and non-moves). It's still early, and they still have the draft.

Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
I would be fine also with a quiet under the radar FA period as long as the players we do acquire are serviceable at the very least. Depth, dependency, smart, flexibility- I read an article that was talking about how alot of the FA’s we bought in play multiple positions.
https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/redskins/redskins-free-agents-so-far-arent-stars-they-do-have-important-quality Those are the little under the radar things that mean alot as a season wears on. Draft well. Rinse. Repeat. Look the team won three games last year but had a legit chance to win 7 others. I wonder what the new competent staff could have done in those 7 other games? |

They paid for that production on past production. Reed was basically paid off of his jaw dropping potential and I believe 2015. And Davis had been around a long time and could still run. Hooper hasn't had a year close to what Reed did in 2015, but maybe that's cause he isn't the first option. But he simply doesn't have the elite skill set that Reed or Davis had. |

Re: Redskins Free Agent Signings 2020
What about Thad Moss? All I saw him do was run away from SEC linebackers, abuse Clemson and never drop a ball. I'll take him on a rookie deal over paying Hooper 11 + million. He has to be on our radar.
