Yeah as really just hope that he can find a way to stay with the team. If they let him go, it would really be a mistake if they did.

No way, he will be back on a long term deal unless someone offers us an insane deal in exchange

Gruden would be cutting his own throat if he were to let KC go without a full out war. He basically hitched his cart to KC during the first preseason. SM, he's not really tied to KC 100%, but I am pretty sure they both put their reputations out there to get RG3 gone. And at this point everything said has been that BA and DS are out of the player picking carousel (as much as the money man and owner ever are). The ONLY point I've heard made for them letting him walk is that (other than DS) none of our FO has ever spent the kind of money that will be needed before. There is a first time for everything. |

Well, you have apparently gone full ShakySnake on this topic. Let's compare our sources: My sources, the President of the Redskins and the Redskins Head Coach, say that it is a virtual certainty that Kirk will be with the team in 2017. Your source, one of our posters, says that what they said is just "coach speak". So you weigh the credibility of the sources and come to the conclusion that the Redskins might not re-sign Kirk, thus causing the sky to fall and forcing you to renounce your Redskins fandom forever. Nice job of seeing right through those lying bastards at Redskins Park. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
The Skins will Sign Cousins..However when they do make him one of the highest paid QB's in the League and he struggles some and he has those moments with game on the line and does not get it done there will be pages and pages on these forums about what were the Skins thinking when they gave it all to this guy..Look I am pro Kirk however it is refreshing to see the Front office not jumping the gun and at least play out all options..This team is not a QB away from a Super Bowl team..period. in fact the Offense most likely won't have the talent next year than i did this year. Denver with a aging Peyton won super bowl last year in spite of Peyton because they had a stud team around them..Dallas was very good this year with a rookie QB but look at their OL and Running game and D. We need to sign Cousins BUT how much is to much and what is wrong with seeing what some desperate team may give up to get him..Are you guys saying you would turn down 3 number one picks for Cousins?? What would you Give him up for? i believe there is a team out there that might would do that .I would never trade him for one pick but 3 number ones...Yes I would .

Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Other teams can't negotiate with Kirk Cousins right now, so there's really no rush. I'm sure the tires are being kicked right now in terms of contract negotiations, but you just won't hear much until the deadlines.

Because the only source I could find is an uncredible SB Nation article that says they can start negotiating after Jan 1st 2017 I will take your word for it. But... Counterpoint: How do you know they haven't been negotiating for a month already? I know it's hard but in this day and age it is possible to conduct negotiations in secret. Maybe they already came to a deal and are waiting until after the Super Bowl to announce it. |

What if they let him walk and he ends up playing like Joe Flacco? (definitely not worth the money) Would you feel different then? Denver fans are loving the fact their GM didn't throw Houston kind of money at Brock Osweiler. Crazy thing is, they weren't too far off on the money that was offered. Needless to say, they dodged a bullet. Not saying this is the same case, but it's something needs to be thought about. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
I think the Joe Flacco numbers might be a bit inflated based on the Super Bowl win (and his play during the playoffs that year). If someone offered him that contract and we didn't match it, I'd still be pissed because it seems every single year someone gets some insane contract. After that, it suddenly becomes the status quo.
|
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Just let the chips fall where they will. Both sides of the debate have legit points. It is a gamble either way. Kirk could get a huge contract and play mediocre or great or he can walk and play either way. Major decisions are always a gamble.

I keep going back to certain points in a quarterback's career that defines his career from that point forward. Such as John Elway and "the drive". I believe that drive is what told the rest of the NFL that John Elway was something special. But, one thing about Redskins quarterbacks, even dating back to the glory years, the quarterbacks were never anything special. I would probably include Joe Theismann with that. While I believe he was probably the closest to being a franchise quarterback, there were quarterbacks in the league who were a heck of a lot better than him. Yet, the Redskins still won Super Bowls. I just feel that the Redskins have always been built to be a team that wins Super Bowls as a team, not because of a franchise quarterback. Sure, the QB has to be good enough to get you there, but it seems like the strength of this franchise in the past has always been built around other things: a strong running game, an elite group of wide receivers who could make anybody look like a hall of fame quarterback, and a strong defense with ball hawking corners. When the Redskins were winning Super Bowls consistently, the reason was never first - the quarterback - it was usually the above reasons that made the team so great. So, having said all of that. I don't believe Kirk Cousins is going to be anywhere close to a John Elway, Joe Montana, or a Tom Brady. I don't even know if we will ever feel he can be a true franchise quarterback. But, I think with a solid team built around him and a great defense, he brings enough to the table to make a good run toward the Super Bowl. Based on that, I would sign him. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
Cousins at the pro bowl talking about Matt Cavanaugh moving to OC
“I love the fact that we’re not starting over,” Cousins said. “We’ve learned a certain way of doing things for a couple of years now and with Coach Cav as the coordinator, we’ll be able to keep that rolling, as opposed to having to start all over with a brand new system and terminology and philosophy.” Doesn't sound like hes moved on. They will get him back. |

I think he is talking about quite literally playing with a "leash" attached meaning - "I'm playing for my next contract / job - i have to make every throw perfect. I have to score X amount of touchdowns, I have to have X amount of passing yards every game". Once they invest in him, he will get to experience the full spectrum and have his bad game here or there (like any NFL QB), and not have to worry about being benched or not getting re-signed or anything like that. I think knowing he is only year to year probably weighs on him, even though he is making damn great money on his one year contracts. Look at other teams in the league that have franchise QB's, even when they play bad, they have no real sense of worry unless its something horrible like Ryan Fitzpatrick and 6 INTs a game for every game or some shit. Eli Manning has had tons of 4 INT games but i bet he has never in the back of his mind thought 'Damn i might get cut if I do it again'. I think that's where Kirk is at with that quote. |

This is what i've said on the Cousins thing since the very beginning: It's Snyder. It's been Snyder from day one. You guys can all believe that the team has turned the page and our FO works differently now, but it's the same old shit. It's a shame that a proud franchise like this is being held hostage by our completely inept owner. I have said it from the beginning, Snyder at the end of the day only cares about ticket sales and getting money. He has never been serious about getting a Lombardi, and how could he be as long as his games sellout and he is close to the top in Merchandise sales? Why the F did he hire a general manger only for Snyder to be the one deciding everything behind the scenes? When Snyder lets Cousins go, the sky really will fall here at redskins park and everything will crumble. The disastrous seasons to come will remind you who has been the puppet master the entire time. Dan Snyder is playing fantasy football with human lives. |
Re: Kirk Cousins 365 thread
We will be the only team in NFL history to let their starting QB go after having 2 consecutive seasons with over 4,000 passing yards. That's a fact, not an alternative fact, a real one.
Snyder has hated Cousins from day one because Cousins is a constant reminder of how Dan Snyder's personal pet project RG3 flamed out in the NFL. He is also a reminder of the superbowl winning coach that told Snyder flat out that you can't win with RG3 in the NFL, and who Snyder fired. The redskins will draft another top QB so that Snyder can have his jersey sales again, but make no mistake, it will be someone that Snyder hand picks - Coaches and GM's be damned. Why do we keep supporting this same old shit? As long as Snyder is here, we're not going to accomplish a damn thing. Time for folks to wake up |
