Redskins interviewed Gus Bradley today.

I still like Wade if he's available. But Pettine obviously gets it, and the record of quick defensive improvement is there.[/quote] Thank you for posting that, Schneed! I'm telling ya, the more I learn about Pettine, the more I am starting to like him over the others. |

I'm now starting to feel a bit better since the 'skins have interviewed both Pettine and Bradley. After your post, I am starting to like Pettine more, but I think I would still be thrilled with Bradley, or of course Phillips. |
Re: The coordinators
I can see why Gruden made Pettine one of his first interviews. Pettine clearly has a philosophy of being aggressive, yet minimizing the information that he throws at his players. Gruden of course saw what we saw this year, that the biggest problem was communication lapses.
It looked to me like Compton was spending an awful lot of time giving hand signals to the secondary and then turning to the other LBs and they just seemed to be staring at each other for far too long before each snap, and not spending enough time looking at the offense's formation. I think the information wasn't being digested efficiently and so you had guys out of position. I see the appeal of Pettine. Teaching in a way that lets guys know their job and just attack. We still need talent but hiring him would make me happy. |

After reading that I would probably be happy with Pettine, provided he got the players necessary to run it. I'm not certain our defense currently has the smarts to be effective in a scheme like that, but obviously we know where the focus will be so I'd be happy to give it a chance. |

Yeah the talent always goes hand in hand. He had line talent with the Jets (Kris Jenkins) and the Bills (Marcell Dareus, Mario Williams). We have a few pieces he can work with but he would need more. You could say the same for any coach, though, and McCloughan will no doubt be out to get more. Nevertheless, the Bills had Dareus and Williams in 2012 before Pettine was there. They were 22nd in yards allowed. In 2013 in Pettine's first year? 10th. |

I wonder if Peppers could fall to us at 17

Cooley said this left the players scrambling around right up to the snap. |

The part I like about Petine is how fast he can turn things around, which tells us that the scheme helps bring the talent level up a notch. Not sure that Gus has shown that in his previous stops. |

There's only one solution. McVay's turned into a liability. We need to call an exterminator. Nah but seriously I would be fine with Pettine. Results aren't the most part of the equation, but they matter. The fact that he gets quick results is a good look. |

Safety And kick return. And...the Wildcat. |

Peppers isn't a true position player, people act like he's the next deion Sanders or something and he's probably not.

Wonder if the Redskins will reach out to Phillips again? Personally, the only knock on WP is his age. Maybe he does coach until he's 75, which would give you about 6 years. I would say in all likelihood, he's probably with ya for about 4 years. So, maybe in those four years, he works with a guy like Greg Manusky (or whoever Phillips hires to be on his staff) to basically be his padawan so that when his career is over, the new coach is ready to move up and continue on. |

Dick LeBeau is like almost 80 and still coaching |
Re: The coordinators
Yeah age is not a constraint. The shelf life of a head coach is either 4 years or if successful, pretty much until he wishes to retire. In football you should consider 3 years the horizon, can't even see past that.

Very true. And I wasn't sure if Dick LeBeau was still coaching or not. My thinking is a Wade Phillips hire is one that says you want to whip your defense into shape as quickly as possible, have it a top 5 defense within three years, and then hope that when you need a new DC, you will have become a contender (if not already won a Super Bowl), and handing the defense over to a less experienced DC wouldn't be as bad of a transition as where we're at right now. Having said that, I'm all aboard for Phillips. Either Phillips, Bradley, or Pettine. |
Re: The coordinators
Wade Phillips deserves a Redskins 1 visit, (duct tape and a quick grab team isn't out of the question)

I'm Wade's age and I'm thinking maybe a nice pair of slippers and a warm bath robe with his initials embroidered on it might do the trick. |

I'm not one to criticize what a professional does in his personal life. As long as he gets results he can take a platinum shower, for all I care, and I'll be okay with it. I just want my Skins to have a respectable defense again. |

Re: The coordinators
ESPN's Alden Gonzalez reports the Rams are "zeroing in" on Redskins OC Sean McVay in their head-coaching search.
This echoes what Gonzalez reported earlier on Thursday. Per Gonzalez, the Rams are expected to pass on interviewing Falcons OC Kyle Shanahan, a pretty strong indication they're targeting McVay as their guy. Kyle, no thanks |
