Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
Wow 5-7 yrs? I can't imagine any owner waiting that long to see results? At the same time there should be some noticable and consistent results during that span. Other than last years playoff berth (which is looking like an abberation) there hasn't been anything to make anyone think The Redskins are heading in the right direction.
It was really fascinating. Someone on here may know what the name of it was. I watched it for the first time in 2011, and it replayed like 4-6 months ago. The owners did stay the course, for the most part. They said 5-7 years, but consider that 5-7 years was the total amount of time spent to where the team was successful every year, playoffs, etc... In that span of years they started seeing improvement. I agree with you though, it looks more like last year's playoff run was luck and and easy schedule over real improvement / talent.... It seems that we are regressing and in general just in a bad way.... |
But what if RG3 is never what he used to be, and the fact that we completley abandoned the Zone Read that RG3 excelled at. They are trying to make him into something he may not be able to be.
Is it a situation like with Jason Campbell where you don't bench him no matter what, even if a healthy and maybe capable Kirk Cousins is rotting on the bench? Put cousins in when they are mathematically eliminated. If the team all of a sudden comes alive maybe you have found the problem and Shanahan has some hope for 2014...
Cousins is such an x factor in all of this. I hope we are not hurting his trade value by not playing him when RG-3 is struggling. I mean going back to the Seattle game when Griff could barely walk, and now this year. If other teams believe he hasnt earned our trust to step in when needed, than why would they trade for him? I find myself becoming very very curious to see what KC could do with this team. At the same time i desperately want Griff to keep improving until he is fully back. He looked great running with the ball last week, but boy he threw some bad balls. I have one more week of hope in the tank to turn this season around, and if Griff struggles I want to see KC. I think Shanny could avoid the whole qb controversy drama that would normally rear its ugly head by just admitting that maybe RG-3 wasnt coming along fast enough, and we arent giving up on the season. Were living in yesterdays tomorrows. |

Im simply pointing out the fact that he may not be physically or mentally prepared to take the field. I think i very clearly stated that Griff showed some major improvement last week with his legs and that i want badly to see him get back to where he was as a player. Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
Gryphon has been improving each week. And even All Day was out-of-sorts for the first six weeks last year (maybe he was too busy making babies). It was at this point last year when AP caught fire and the smart money is on Griff to do the same.

Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
Maybe the relationship between RG and both of the shanahans is broken. I've been surprised to hear RG and Kyle not seeing eye to eye because wasn't it Mikes decision whether Robert stays in the game against Seattle? How's the situation since then between Mike and RG? It would explain why the offense isn't clicking.

As a football player the only way to work yourself back from an injury is to play football. You don't sit your starter. If he's healthy enough to start after reconstruction surgery, you start him, and he pays his way back into form. Injured football players need to "feel" the game, and after injury their bodies have to catch back up to game speed. The ONLY way to do that is to play. He would have been 2, 3, or 4 games from the point where he is now if he didn't play his way back into form. He almost singlehandedly won 5 games last year, and due to the "gimmick" offense he was almost unstoppable. Now that the NFL defenses have caught up with Little Shanny's trick, he has to learn how to be successful in the same offense that Grossman ran two years ago. That's the problem! |
Da Fuq?
Yeah man. Seems like you need to hear what I have to say. Stop looking at an NFCE division 1st place as the end all goal. Since '99 that hasn't happened. It earned us a home playoff game which we couldn't even win and watched it slip away. The only reason the division happened is b/c of Rob, despite as wreck less as shanhahans were but eventually the ruined him in the playoffs and the 2013 season. Da fuq is not being all 'rah rah about it b/c good teams repeat success, not hang their hat on that 1 good season b/c for an encore we are battling for the basement in the division the following year and possibly for many more to come as we are at the cross roads of dumb coaching, name hating politics, dangerous scheme for our QB, Haslett and gutter defense= how many more years of this do we had to endure? As soon as we find a way out Shanahans take it away. Da fuq is not being content with the past but that's all this team has. What matters is today. Today we are f'n losers. I'm sick of "but there is always next year" or "remember back when" as the redskins motto. As that next year rolls around we will repeat our same failures if we keep using our QB in the manner that Kyle uses him, you know as a RB/QB/WR. I'm sorry but I'm not satisfied with once in 14 years and hosting a playoff game to blow a lead and watch mgt ruin a great potential. And be questioned like 1-4 en route to 5-11 is part of the plan toward success. Da fuq is not having control of the franchise to tank Robert one year and drag the team and fans down the following. I don't get that other than that is life as an observer/fan of one of the worst franchises in the league. But hey the team has a long history and there's always next year |
Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
I don't wanna downplay the run we had last year or RG's awesomeness, but I don't see many ppl remembering how bad the division was and how easy our schedule was. Iggles completely imploded. Cowboys defense lost 8-9 starters. Giants were already on their way to the bottom. And somebody here mentioned only two of our wins last season came against teams above .500.
On the other hand I didn't think we played to our potential even during the run last season. I see our players do some special things individually but the lack of discipline, preparedness and heart had been pretty consistent. |

Outside the division, they were 5-5. Had we not beaten the Giants (who were 7-4 to our 5-6 when we played them), they would have ended up 10-6 and in the play-offs. After playing us, their only other two losses were to the Baltimore Ravens, in Baltimore (You know, the eventual SB champs) and Atlanta in Atlanta (the NFC West Champs). Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
Ultimately it is the players out there making the plays not the coaches. Haslett isn't telling anybody to blow open field tackles or to have neutral zone infractions. Kyle isn't causing Robert to over throw his recievers or to both handoffs to Al Mo. Could I disagree with some play calling on both sides of the ball? absolutely. But I don't see the coaches as losing the locker room as they say, rather we are playing poorly.

I agree. Overall this year our greatest failing has been a lack of intensity. Some of this problem is on the coaches. But it is also true that NFL players are grown men who should be self-starters. It's their reputation and their next contract which is on the line when they take the field. Players should be motivated by their own pride. Therefore coaches are never entirely to blame when players lack intensity like ours have. |

Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
Helu is legit. I don't recall who said it, but apparently he really hit the weight room hard last offseason and it shows.
I think yesterday showed how this offense really hums when we can run the ball effectively. It opens things up for Griffin in the passing game too. With Griffin getting his legs back we have a deadly 3 headed monster in the backfield. |
Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
We can still win this division. RG3 is starting to look more to his original form.
We had a cap restriction and less picks than other teams because of the trade. We should take this into consideration when viewing the 2013 year. If we get to the playoffs this year it will be a testament to the coaching, players, and scouting departments. No team has top players at every position. The NFL doesn't work that way. That is the beauty of the league. Next year we will get the complimentary reciever to Garcon, a quality line and secondary help. |

if there's any better time to do it, it's this year. Did anybody see the cowboys vs eagles game yesterday? Those 2 teams look like effing garbage. Pathetic crap on the field up in Philly yesterday. |

He's notorious for doing that, so I am not surprised. |
Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
I'd love to see Jay Gruden as our next HC. He wins at every level, everywhere he goes.

Nope, FSU grad. I just always loved Betts for his team-first attitude, hard-nosed running style and his ability to catch balls out of the backfield. On a personal level, he's also a great guy. |

Re: Who's your pick's for next HC, DC and OC?
Judging by your age, probably a year or two before you went to Miami.
I graduated from WSHS in NOVA in 1987 and went straight to FSU. At my first home football game, I had the incredible good fortune of watching an unknown kid named Deion Sanders cover a guy named Michael Irvin all game. Late in the game, Deion exited the game for exactly two plays. Michael Irvin went downtown against his replacement on each play, catching long bombs for TDs. It was amazing--I was hooked. Nice to meet you. And your Canes look good this season. |

I dont have a good feeling about next week. Anyway i think we are taking this thread way off track. Good luck next week - i would say you are gonna need it but..... |
