If Belichick had enough of him and couldn't control him any more, he doesn't belong on any NFL roster.

Belichick has had the ability to take most of the league's washups and malcontents and make them behave and extend their careers.

The two he's failed at recently:

Moss, worked initially but not long term
Haynesworth

Tough to disagree with most of the list. I'd remove Colston, possibly Jarrett Johnson and now that Carlos Rogers has found a pair of hands, he's a solid all-around CB. He could always cover. I would not be opposed to bringing him back if at a reasonable price.

The rest...yeah, no real shockers why they're on the list. Gaither is ancient, those QBs are horrible, Cedric Benson is a ticking time bomb, Manningham is nothing special.

If London Fletcher and the Redskins don't come to terms by the 13th of March, then what? Who would the Redskins have in mind to replace him? Fletcher will receive some offers around the NFL I'm sure. Besides veterans playing ILB, the most prominent name I can think of to replace Fletcher on our defense would be Bart Scott. Unless Fletcher's pending replacement is already on the roster, I'm not sure how effective a draft pick would be. I heard that the Dallas Cowboys plan to part ways with Keith Brooking, but Brooking is not as good as Fletcher or Scott in playing inside linebacker.

Stephen Tulloch is a possibility
Stephen Tulloch is a possibility
While Stephen Tulloch isn't bad, wouldn't you prefer Bruce Allen to go after someone who has played in the 3-4 scheme before? Even if it's a collegiate player like Donta Hightower, who in my opinion is the most complete linebacker entering the draft this year. Tulloch would be another McIntosh, a nice linebacker but one who just isn't fit for what Haslett wants.

SmootSmack 03-08-2012 03:54 PM

Re: Around the NFL: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

Well I think we're keeping Fletcher, but I was just saying Tulloch could be an option (don't know if they are interested in him, or Lofton or Farrior) I actually haven't heard about interest in any linebackers

Re: Around the NFL: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades

Like you, I hope Fletcher and the Redskins agree to a deal before 3-13-12. It seems to me that a deal would have been in place by now. But you know how these things can go. Fletcher put the heat on the Redskins by dismissing Drew Rosenhaus and signing with a new agent. London no doubt made that move in order to get more money. And based on what he's done under the Gregg Williams, Greg Blache, and Jim Haslett defenses, he deserves every single penny he's asking for.

Do people still threaten to 'bust a cap'? Seems so mid 1990's. Hip Hop truly is dead.

Well Dallas just franchised Anthony Spencer, but otherwise I agree I hope Mario Williams doesn't go to Dallas.

Mario Williams is an exceptional talent. The Cowgirls have one of the best defensive fronts in the NFL. If Williams were to go there, that defense, with Rob Ryan already as the DC, would be that much more good.

I understand everyone's pissed because Giantsone likes to hang out on this board in spite of the fact that he should be on his own team's board gloating about their SB win, but this is the "Around The NFL" thread, which is the proper place to talk about the Giants amongst other teams. The least you can do is give him credit for keeping the discussion about the Giants in this thread. And if you don't care for his opinion, there's a beautiful thing called the "ignore list". all you have to do is put him on it and you'll never see his posts again.

I'm giving him crap b/c he typically does that on purpose. Otherwise I don't mind him.

Anyway back to the thread...I just read on ESPN rumors that the Bucs may be going after both Finnegan and VJax. I get the feeling that teams may be getting into a bidding war for VJax.

Finnegan is a dirty player, but I would rather have him than Hall. VJax, I think has straitened his act up, wouldnt mind having him here, but not for outrageous salary.

I don't know that Finnegan is any better than Hall. The perception is that he's a good cb, just a headcase. But last year I didn't see any indication that he's as good as he's perceived to be.

DeAngelo Hall needs to have a better season in 2012. He has to make more plays and prove to the entire NFL that he can defend against elite NFL receivers. He certainly didn't show that last season.

He's statistically one of the best run stopping corners in the league. He's improved year over year in that category consistently. Please dont ask me to back that up. I cant remember how it was calculated or where i heard it.

I think this goes for our entire secondary unit. Hopefully Raheem Morris can whip this group into shape. Having a question mark at SS worries me a bit, though I do hope that Atogwe plays well and stays healthy.

An improved offense should help out the defense a lot this year. This why I really hope the team focuses most of their resources on the offense. You can never have too many players and I am sure they will draft/sign some defensive players, but I would prefer if they spend more on the offense than the defense.

This will be a tough sell given that Mario Williams is available as an unrestricted free agent. Although I wonder if the Patriots will all of those draft picks would be willing to pick him up. Still, if they are in cap problems, teams can just sit and wait until the Colts cut him.
