I may have worded it wrong. It's not like they're jawing at each other it's just that sometimes the best players and best coaches aren't the biggest fans of each other
I'd be stunned if Laron returns
Wow! this thread took a sharp turn here, before that it was talk basically about him keeping his options open, including leaving town.

I'm always disappointed when guys drafted here want to leave, but that's just my romanticism of the glory days, hoping that most players will play well & spend their whole career in b&g. That said, I have never been able to really be a big LL fan. His rookie year was so promising but it's always seemed he's never quite taken that next step. His best year, 2010 was cut short by injury.

If he could be franchised & part of a trade package, that would make sense at this point. Or if we could match a team's offer per restricted FA that would still allow a trade w/out cap issues. I think the Rams would be interested given their rebuild in progress. Can't expect much value in return, but adding Landry to a deal might be the icing for the rams or someone else. When does the franchise label take place, same time (March 1) at FA right?

Do you expect Laron to be an average player again? How long do you expect him to play given his current situation? Any thoughts which franchises might take a chance on him?

another thing about Landry I've mentioned in other threads, he doesn't seem to be a Shanny type player. My guess is that Shanny would've been much less likely to draft him if he were coach/prez in 07.

Oh, yeah I don't really know the answers to those questions. I have a feeling he might face a Carlos Rogers like situation, meaning one year deal to prove himself again.

I mean it's not that people doubt his skills it's that they're skeptical of a guy who hasn't gotten surgery yet. And on his end, he's worried surgery could essentially end his career.
As I understand it, Shanahan and Atogwe don't have the best relationship (kind of like Shanahan and Gano). But much like Smith fights to the end for Gano, Haslett does the same for Atogwe.

Also, Atogwe wasn't entirely healthy this year.

I think he returns
I get the chuckles every time I hear this now! Who does Mike get along with lol? For that matter...is there a single player on the current roster to say as much? Haven't heard it...

I think it's an important factor, especially for those hoping Manning is our next QB. Manning from all accounts is a good guy who wants a good working relationship with everyone. Why would he have anything to do w/ Mike Shanahan after the McNabb fiasco etc etc?

I remember reading a scouting report of him when he was at LSU & he was said to be "jekyl & hide" with teamates. Just watching him on the field he has never seemed to be much of a team guy. He doesn't seem to congratulate teamates much, but is quick to celebrate & let you know he hit somebody.

I always wondered how coachable he is & how he prepares w/others. Without knowing any more than what I see on tv, the guy comes across as being close to the opposite of London Fletcher w/regards to team concept & leadership.

I really think that aspect took a big hit when #21 passed away.

If you look during his rookie season, you don't really see a lot of that.

There are 53 guys on the active roster. He gets along with just about all of them. And like I said it's not that jawing at each other. It's just that Shanahan is not (it appears) Atogwe's biggest fan and Atogwe gets frustrated by that. It happens everywhere, you can think someone is a great guy and all but on the field you're like I don't know that we can't do better. But Haslett loves Atogwe.

And, I think, that Shanahan felt Atogwe was more hurt than he let on

I think that was kind of obvious. Landry had to take Sean's role right when he was not ready for it at all.

Actually, virtually every player on the team when an opportunity comes up..."sings his praises" in an interview setting. AND Mark Schlereth of ESPN loves the guy and says so often....publicly....on TLIS. Basically I think he's more of a dick to the press...cause he likes it....It's just fun!

:offtopic:Pure speculation on my part, but I'm thinking Shanahan might relinquish considerable control to Peyton Manning in order to reestablish or reaffirm his own credibility as a top-flite coach. I'm not suggesting we sign Manning, because I think there is too much risk involved with making an investment in him under the circumstances. Nevertheless, Shanahan may view it differently; he might see Manning as his last, best opportunity to win another Super Bowl.

There was a running discussion of wide receivers in the Keenan McCardell Curse thread, and Michael Westbrook's name came up. Some very good information was posted on Michael and his tenure in Washington.

Like Landry, he was a workout freak, but did not get along especially well with some teammates and coaches. Some of the comments about Landry are revealing a personality profile very similar to Westbrook.

The two players are strikingly similar in many ways; Landry may be a unique physical specimen, just as Westbrrok was, but he may also be unhappy in his current football environment, also just as Westbrrok was.

Read it. Sounds like a mentally-handicapped child scared to death of needles and "going to sleep."

I'll be shocked if he's still in the league beyond this calender year.

Yes, the grammar is somewhat off but, it seems like there's some Arrington-itis (conspiracy) going on. If the team thinks the alternate procedures are unproven, unsupported, and/or costly, be up front and tell the player. The team may think that his body isn't responding well since the initial surgery didn't help. I don't know. Now they've suggested a more drastic procedure to perhaps 'scare him' or throw him on the scrap heap. I'd like to know of other players who've had this surgery, successful or not. That's why it's all about the guaranteed money for NFL players. The last thing this team needs is anonther hole in the secondary. Damn.

After hearing Landry this weekend on the radio i get the impression that he wants to be on the skins now that we have a new DB coach in Morris. He is afraid of the surgery, but he wants to have a chance to do it his way, if it doesn't work he'll have the surgery.

It is hard to feel like a superman all your life and then your body fails on you.

OH MAH GOD! A Bubba Sparxxx video! Oh the humanity! Wigger inspiration alert! Wigger inspiration alert! Man the battlestations!

Also, since I endorse what diehardskin is attempting to do here in steering this thread back on track, let me just say I'm not quite ready to cut Landry loose just yet. If we bring him back on a one year deal to prove himself all over again I wouldn't be opposed to that. But make no mistake it would be his last chance.

It'll be too late by then. His career will be pretty much over. If his Achilles fails again at the start of this year, that's a whole year wasted again, and he probably wouldn't be ready for the following year.(depending on when/if he injures it) He'll be 28 this upcoming Oct, and another year and change if he waits for surgery (even longer) He's a dummy.

You know, I've held a vendetta against Landry since he began to disappoint as a 6th overall pick. Consider, Orakpo was more in the middle of round 1 and look how much more impact he's had than Landry (already).

...but he's probably a good guy. Hope he enjoys life after football.

Re: Laron Landry - Redskin for life?
I thought of this more than once during yesterday's game, most notably when Doughty stopped Jacobs by taking out his legs. Doughty took a knee to the helmet but it was an impressive tackle. Landry would have gotten run over or (more likely) simply dove to the turf to avoid contact as he has so many times before.

...it's sad he never learned to tackle through all his years of high school and college ball.
I dont think LL would challenge Jacobs head on again after the incident though. Hes put a normal tackle on him a few times since that play.
