That's crazy or just super-coincidental, that after all these years, he left-us after Howell was gone and before completing a damn near dream/season with J.D.
Re: The annual QB carousel
Hoping Howell does well in Minnesota. McCarthy is a real young guy with 0 nfl experience. I could see Howell getting some meaningful pt there and O'Connell is good with qbs.

Re: The annual QB carousel
I wouldn't be surprised to see Howell playing his best game under O'Connell. O'Connell is clearly a QB guru, I mean, even Haskins showed some flashes under him.

Re: The annual QB carousel
Sam is in good situation. Kevin O’ Connell is great with QBs. He can further develop Sam and Sam is bound to get a chance of some playing time; as JJ McCarthy will have ups and downs in his first year starting. Sam may get another chance in the future or have a nice backup career.
Shedeur , if he’s really a good qb; gets a chance to rise in Cleveland’s QB room. Time for him to show, it was other non football things that caused him to slide. Watson still has 2 more years on that deal; so Browns are stuck with the contract. He won’t be healed from injury until later in season. He’s likely never playing a down for Browns again. So he’s a non factor. I think Pickett is odd man out and will be traded or released before training camp. He will likely asked to be released. Flacco is vet qb Browns like. He lead to playoffs 2 years ago. Big reason they brought him back. He sucked in Indy last year and likely has little left in tank. Browns long term qb will come from either Gabriel or Sanders ultimately winning the job and getting playing time later in the season. And just think, Browns have 2 #1’s in 2026 and could trade up next year for a QB if needed. The vet qb market is settled for now, if Rodgers plays with Steelers. Cousins will be stuck as a backup , unless someone gets hurt in summer. Now if Rodgers says no to Steelers; then I can see Cousins going there. |
Re: The annual QB carousel
What Pittsburgh does at qb now should be interesting. Suppose they are still waiting on Rodgers which I feel is a mistake if he plays or not. They did draft Will Howard. Imagine they roll with Rudolph if Rodgers doesn't come. Surprised they didn't nab a qb higher than 6th rd.

Re: The annual QB carousel
I’m shocked Pittsburgh didn’t trade for Sam Howell.
He’s ready for his breakout season and would’ve made them Super Bowl contenders. |

Re: The annual QB carousel
Now they are saying that Sanders will be cut before the season starts. Basically a camp body.
|
Re: The annual QB carousel
Who is "they". That's just dumb. Why draft him at all if that's the case. Don't need QB "camp bodies". Not enough reps to go around for all of them.
|
Re: The annual QB carousel
They won’t admit it but Sanders was likely picked on Haslams orders.
Remember Browns traded up in 5th round to get him, so figure they want to make the roster. |

Re: The annual QB carousel
you don't spend 5th round picks on camp bodies. there are unlimited amounts of UDFAs for that. They need to see if either of the rookies can play and also hope for a someone to have a camp injury so they can trade pickett for a ham sandwich.

I'd still be surprised if Flacco is not the starter. Just seems like the safest bet with all the experience, ring, and arm strength despite his age. Hard to predict honestly. Every day is an adventure for Stefanski being Cleveland's coach.

I mean, they're not winning anything this year (or until they ditch DW's contract), so flacco giving you a couple W's doesn't really matter. Kinda better to see if the young guys are good enough to start or flip for picks (and/or tank for manning). |

Maybe midseason or later. Should be interesting.
