Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
I say BS. We can be a top 10 defense, no doubt.

Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
Yardage or scoring Matty?
I think we get better almost exclusively because D. Hall is moved inside. I think he's going to have a pro-bowl year closer to the ball. |

Middle of the pack?
Hmmm...I still think we're a top 10 defense. I 100% agree with the top 4 defenses (Pitt, Baltimore, Houston, San Fran). San Fran to me was not just the best defense, but the best defense I've seen since the '00 Baltimore Ravens defense. They only allowed 1--thats right--1 rushing TD all year. Houston, we'll you got to give them mad props for turning around a 30th ranked defense into a top 5 defense. It goes to show that A) it can be done--taking a bad 4-3 defense and turning them into a 3-4 defense that is near the top the next year. Just like how when shanahan took over we had a top 10, 4-3 defense, and then we suffered badly the next year falling to 31st with our new 3-4 defense. Last year our defense started off as a top 10 defense, but then we fell midway through the season to 13th. This season, if our defense remains intact and for the most part healthy, I will will declare our defense a failure if it isn't in the top ten this year. Middle of the pack isn't a bad ranking by nfl.com, but its not that good of a ranking either considering fhere I expect us to be and where we should be. |
Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
I could see us around 10th, but middle of the pack is fair todya based on last year and the concerns in the secondary. The front seven is probaby top 10 right now...right?

Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
If I said I hope we are 30th in total yards, would I get in trouble?
(of course I mean it in a NE/GB kinda way, where opponents have to move up and down the field in order to keep up with our massive scoring machine) |
Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
We should be stout. Give 3 alotta opportunities.

Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
Measure our defense by how good they played last year. They ended up ranked 13th in the league. By week fifteen prior to the second game against the Giants, the Redskins were ranked 10th in overall defense in the NFL. With the addition of Jarvis Jenkins crashing into offensive lines, the defense could be top 5 this season. My biggest concern is the play at safety. If Cedric Griffin, Madieu Williams, Tanard Jackson, and Meriweather can play within the scheme, the defense will be great.

Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
I'm expecting anything from 7-15.. But I'm genuinely concerned that Meriweather and Madieu Williams will be our starting safeties. These two players were absolutely abysmal last year, why should we expect anything different? The only reason I'm still optimistic is that our coach has no problem benching guys.

I am excited about Jenkins but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't flash until end of this season or even next preseason because I have always heard his type injury just takes that long till a player is really back up to speed |
Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
I expect our defense to be a top 10 defense next year. Although I have some concern about our safety play going into this season, I don't think the secondary will be as bad as some are anticipating. I think the front 7 will be improved (more experienced and added depth), coach Morris' presence will help with secondary scheme, and most of all our offense being able to stay on the field longer will increase defensive stamina.

Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
I definitely think that we should draft a safety in the first round next year.
wait a second. Nevermind, I meant the year after that. oh, wait, I meant the year after that. They are saying that the 2015 Safety draft class is shaping up to be a once in a generation draft class at that position. |
Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
Weak coverage secondary with a strong front 7...seems to me we'll give up middle of the pack yards, and be stout in the redzone. We'll probably also be at the back end of the league in terms of over 20 yard completions/scores. Top 10 in sacks.

Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
I don't see much on the pipeline on defense. Jenkins and Riely and that's about it. Barnes and Westbrook aren't any good at covering. I may get flamed for this but I'd try and trade Orakpo. He's simply not an elite player. I'd put Rob Jackson in there cause he seems to be every bit as effective coming off the edge as Orakpo. See what you can get for Rak to maybe get back some draft picks and draft Fletcher's replacement....or perhaps get a corner.
Interesting.
Not going to popular in the very least but interesting. I get wanting to trade Orakpo but the reason would be because Rob Jackson can play not because Orkapo can't. |
Re: How will our defense hold up next year?
Weren't there rumors floating earlier this year Orakpo was on the trading block?

Yup. The rumor was that he was floated in the Gryphon trade. |
