I'm just a dumb fan who loves to watch great football players do their thing in B&G. I don't need to have a plan. But shouldn't the FO have one? If they do, I just can't see it.

There does not seem to be a committment to make the draft work. Last year we throw most of our draft at receiver types with no result, while forsaking the O and D lines for the most part. Lines are the foundation of your team.
We then lose this year's 2nd round pick for Jason Taylor, who is now gone. I know this organization is a lucrative business and has money to throw around than most of the teams, but we need to commit more effort to make the draft work. Are they going cheap on scouting?

in all there were 11 2nd round picks that were other teams picks traded for whatever reason..11/32 teams used the same tactic everyone sees fit to whine about

In my book really only Forte qualified as a true impact player right from the git-go and the Bears were desperate to find a 25 carry a game RB..then again we all know Redskin fans demand results from day one..

Nightmare draft scenario: Three tackles go in the first four picks, so Vinny trades next year's 1st rounder to move up to 5 and take Andre Smith.

Ugh, that would be a nightmare. There are too many good players that would fill needs for us that would still be available when we pick at 13. heck, id even take Freeman or Sanchez at 13 before I traded to move up to take Smith.

Heres a really interesting scenario that shows how, realisticaly, all of the "big 4" OTs may be gone before we pick and we could find ourself without a trade partner.

Given how this scenario would play out, i'd rather have us take Cushing or Jackson than Mack, though. Id even reach on Britton before taking Mack. Atlanta reached to take a OT last year and it worked out pretty well for them. 13 is way too high to take a center.

I can't seem them doing that. Last year they showed "discipline" and took the players they had rated and purported that they didn't try and reach on players. If the run on tackles leaves them in this situation, based on last year, they'd have to value Smith REAL REAL high. With the holes we have they can stick at 13 and get a starter somewhere else. I think that is what they would do. Or even trade back.

Alex Mack would be the smart pick. Just as Haynesworth makes the d-line better from the middle, so would Mack on the o-line. Our strength up the middle would greatly increase and just as the article said, the Redskins would get much better by adding Mack than they would by adding a RT of similar quality. We are WEAK up the middle. That is why people were calling for JC to roll out more last year. There is no pocket to step up into. How many times did we run up the middle at the goal line and get nada? It would also make JC more dangerous as far as running. Makes all kinds of sense to me.

I suppose it's rather unfortunate that the criteria people use to assess the FO is based upon success on the football field.
"People aren't happy no matter what the Redskins front office does" because whatever it does never seems to translate to winning. This decade the Redskins have been one of the least successful teams in the NFL. They've won one lonely playoff game and zero division titles despite grossly outspending every team in the league. Sports is a nasty, results based institution and until the Front Office can show consistent success, rather than consistent failure, people simply will not be happy with anything they do. U took the words out from my mouth (in my case, hands).. Mack is "almost guaranteed" to be a stud in O-line; if all top RT are gone before #13, it is not worth to waste a pick on a RT who possibly have similar talents with Jansen or Heyer.. Although it might be a little bit reach to draft Mack at #13, we always can trade down to get more picks and draft Mack.. The risk of trading down is the teams above us might draft Mack first..

I agree GridIron26. Detroit at 20 is possible but even more likely would be Minnesota at 22. Having lost Matt Birk would certainly put them in a position to want Mack. If he's still available at 32, I'd bet Pittsburgh takes him.

I read somewhere earlier today (and now I can't find the damn link) that the Lions aren't sold on Stafford because of his inconsistencies, and Schwartz plans on running a lot. Speculation in the article was they will take either Jason Smith or Eugene Monroe.

We'd be better off taking Britton at 13 than shipping off more picks for a big old Red Flag (A.Smith).
