Correction I Said Our Starting Field Position Was One Of The Worst Not The Worse And There Are Alot Of Returners Who Aren't Devin Hester You Just Don'thear Bout Them Cause It's Devin Hester
Eddie Drummond Dante Hall Justin Miller Jerome Mathis I Am Not Saying That It Is A Pressing Issue Cause It Isn't I Would Just Like To See An Upgrade Their In The Draft With Our 5th Pick Cause Rock Cartwright Just Isnt The Fastest Guy And That Return He Had Against The Cowboys Was Purely Great Blocking
drummond isn't that great, the rest are good upgrades, but i don't think we'll be able to land any of them. and yeah rock isn't the fastest guy, but he can break a few tackles, and gibbs prefers RBs for kickoff duty for that reason. |
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
well that theory by joe gibbs is stupid look at the best k. returners in the league they are not running backs they arecorners, and recievers and where were you when drummond went to the pro bowl for kick returning and had 3 consecutive kick or punt returns for tds

brian mitchell is the all time leader in return yards. he played for gibbs. he was a running back. and where were you, last year drummond didn't make the top 30 in kick returns, and in 2005 he was #27. that's really not very good compared to who we already have. |
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
touche i like you bringin him up very very nice i though about him after i posted the other thing but i mean righ now and brian mitchell was way more explosive than rock cartwrigh who a few years ago had a 75 speed rating on madden and he ran a 4.79 at his combine or was it 4.89 i cant remember joe gibbs is kinda coaching in thepast man and that needs to stop now running backs arent used for kick returns as much cause wrs and dbs are better at it

Last time I checked, a) Madden ratings dont mean crap in the actual National Football League, and B) I thought Rock Cartwright did a HELLAVA job for us last year returning kicks, and I have absolutley no problems with him being there next year and beyond. He runs striaght up the damn feild and consistenly got us to the 30 yard line or beoynd which is all you can ask for |

Running backs are BETTER at returning kicks than DBs and WRs because they actually carry the ball as part of their job. They won't fumble as much, and they tend to have better vision than WRs or DBs. Rock was a consistent returner. He took the ball, saw the lane, got up the field and actually broke tackles. All returners can break one from time to time (rock's no exception), but guys like Devin Hester will always return to earth in the manner that Dante Hall did back in 2004.
Our return game is fine and dandy with Rock returning kicks and Randle El returning punts. Any RB (or receiveing-style FB) can return kicks in my opinion. |
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
i disagree devin hester will have at least 3 returns each year cause that is all that he does and rock finished 17th that's not getting you to the 30 each time i am not saying rock isnt good at it i am saying an upgrade wouldnt hurt now we dont have a pick until the 5th round why not look for a speed defensive back and train him in that aspect. devin hester has been doing that since he was in pop warner football and look what it has done for him or let randle el and cartwright do kick returns that would keep defenses off balance and why not let randle el do it even though he doesnt want to i likedit better when betts was back there he was 4th in ht e league i think and he got pro bowl alternate to koren robinson which i think was absolute crap

With KRer's you want them to get up to the 25-30 yard in the most efficient manner possible, not have them scamper about looking for the window of opportunity in which case they have a greater chance of establishing terrible field position. Running backs are built to carry the ball straight ahead and break a tackle or two. PRer's have a better situation of already having established decent field position by virtue of the probability that the line of scrimmage is farther back than the Kick-off line of scrimmage. They can try to get away with more because the marginal loss isn't as great as it is with kick-offs. In short, I like Rock being back there and I didn't mind it when Betts did it either. Also, I think Randle El is going to take a couple or three punts to the house in 2007. |
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
that makes sense but i think we should get someone else to do it or put randle eland cartwright back there
Vilma is still young and one of the best. I make this trade all day long.
If this is true (and that's a big if) then it could basically come down to Vilma vs. Branch. So you would rather have Vilma over someone who could possible make the LB's better? Make their job easier by hopefully trying up blockers? Is there anyone at the end of the 1st round that is better than Branch? |

that's a big no. |
Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
Rock had a great year returning kicks... we have too many other needs to put KR anywhere near the top of our list.

Re: Draft Day Trades: Jets Interested? (rumor)
alan branch will be the best pick for the skins look at what marcus stroud and john henderson do for the jags now alan branch and griffin will do that for the skins
I think most people understand anyone is replaceable in this leaque. But you certainly don't have to look to far around the league and clearly see QUALITY RB/TB aren't DIME A DOZEN!
Futhermore, you MUST have at least ONE. With TJ more than likely gone, and used up. CP status not real clear? There's a chance LB is our #1 back with Rock as #2. They signed a solid back in LB to a 5 year deal for a GREAT reason we need him, and Joe Gibbs football is pound the rock first. If CP was 100% there might be an ounce of thruth to this thread.
Good RB's are not that hard to find. Look at the Colts letting Edge walk and replacing him with no problem. And we don't even really know how good Betts really is. When he ran the ball well at the end that was when our line was finally starting to gel. How many of his runs down the stretch did he make people miss or carry tacklers for extra yards? He is a good player...lets not make him out to be more than that. I think this trade is a little tilted towards the Jets, but lets not make Betts out to be this irreplacable player. A young MLB like Vilma is way more valuable than Betts. |
