If you check twitter today apparently Sam’s ceiling is Colt McCoy lol!! Good lord these DC media guys kill me
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Only similarity between the two is that their best games came against Dallas. Difference being Sam played one game and it took Colt about 5 years. |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
To be fair it was never said that Howell's ceiling is McCoy, it was just a player comp, and one that people have probably overreacted to just a bit.
Did fans overreact to Sam Howell being compared to Colt McCoy? The only issue we should have with Miller's take is saying Howell doesn't have great arm strength. His arm is plenty strong enough to make all the throws in the NFL. |

I like the kid[Howell] and given a decent o-line the kid will be ok.

I agree…I also feel our couches will pull out all the cards to help him succeed. Such as running a lot of RPO to give him open throwing lanes, give running backs lanes, and he will use his legs ALOT more than Heineke as he develops as a passer. He’s a 5th round pick, and he gets really badly hurt…no offense, but we’ll move on. We don’t need to preserve him, and he probably prefers it that way as a 5th round pick this may be one of the biggest moments in setting up a potential future big pay day and a potential successful nfl career. I feel our offense will thrive because Heineke was almost reluctant to run last year…as I’m sure he wanted to protect himself for that nice payday. I think Howell will do fine, and we’ll find out more in training camp too. |

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
I think Russell Wilson is a much better comparison for Sam Howell than Colt McCoy. The style of play of Wilson and Howell is very similar and both of them can make throws that McCoy cannot because they have greater arm strength than Colt.
Now, don't think I just predicted that Sam Howell can have the same level of NFL success that Russell Wilson has had. That remains to be seen. |

I think this is an excellent article in which Mike Martz talks about Sam Howell and evaluates some of Sam's plays vs. Dallas. Enjoy! |

I hope you're right. It would be a stark and welcome shift of the direction of this franchise - with new ownership in place, and the actual QB of the foreseeable future in place. |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
When we beat the 49ers in the NFC Championship game, I'll be wearing a T-shirt with Sam's picture that says, "Brock who?" Or at least, that was a dream I had recently.

i will reserve my excitement/disappointment until sept
I hear ya, but I'd rather be hearing good news than bad. Nothing matters until September, we all know that. But for me, it all just feels different this offseason - with the sale, the QB, the defense, et al. There's only two sides of the fence at this point of the offseason... Pessimistic and Optimistic. You can be one of those, or you can be on the fence. I'm on the fence. |

So much bad in the world I gotta try and be positive.. so I’m thinking things are looking very good In Commanders land !!!

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
Sam Howell 2023 stats:
63.5% completion pct 3,515 yd passing, 25 td 9 int. 400 yards rushing, 3 TD What you got? |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
The team has been sold. I just can't get the amount of absolute pessimism overall still here. Being miserable is a football life-style I guess.

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
4,200 yards, 29 TDs, 12 interceptions. 500 rushing yards, 6 rushing touchdowns. 2nd best QB in the division.

I feel confident he can lead this team. I was a little shaky before, but this preseason he’s lead like 4 scoring drives and looks the part

Re: The Sam Howell Thread
Ill just make it simple and say better than anything Taylor Heinekie or Carson Wentz could do and we certainly are not going to lose games because of our quarterback. Hopefully he doesn’t get hurt because I thought Brissett looked like a nervous child last night. We didn’t address the Oline seriously in the draft and that will haunt us this year. Should have taken a G instead of Martin.

What has impressed me so far is Sam's poise. He is cool and calm back there and thats a huge trait for a young QB. I think he's legit

So poised. I think he has a giant chip on his shoulder because of falling in the draft. Extremely accurate. Knows when to run. Has a great deep ball. Smart. He needs to learn when to throw it away and when to slide - couple times last night looked like he was trying to do to much instead of living for another down, but that is to be expected for basically a rookie. Plus id rather him looking to do too much than puss out and play scared. Dude is definitely not afraid. |

Last night's game has to be taken with a grain of salt since he played against the second string and a guys who will get cut but he once again looked like he has the potential to be legit.

Yes it was against the 2's so we do need to pump the brakes some but man he looks the part! |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
You can only play against who is on the field. He did exactly what you want a starting QB to do in that situation. Knit-pickers are gonna knit-pick though. Also, this dude has 1 career regular season start. He has been a No. 2 or 3 himself up until a couple weeks ago.

I'm not going to hype up the win more than it needs to, but the Ravens are always putting extra efforts on these preseason games. |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
Ravens defense brought constant blitzers…not a normal in preseason
Howell handled it well |
The Sam Howell Thread
All I know is this is the third time we have seen Sam take the field and the third time he impressed. One was last year with Scott Turner against a playoff team that wanted to win.
We have a new owner and a good quarterback. I thought I might never be able to say either of those things. |
Re: The Sam Howell Thread
O-line looked pretty good last night. While it wasn't against the 1s, for the most part Howell had a clean pocket. I think he was sacked twice, and both sacks were on him.
More work to be done. They have some time to gel before facing a formidable D-line, at which time we'll be able to make a better determination as to how good they are. I thought it was at least - encouraging. |

Couldn't hurt to add at OL and LB. |

If we have all new linebackers on the roster next year, I wouldn't be upset at all. That position needs a complete re-boot. |

Risner is still out there... LB looks thin though; who's out there likely to displace a current starter? |
