WASHINGTON, Dec 19 (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives panel probing the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol asked federal prosecutors on Monday to charge Donald Trump with four crimes, including obstruction and insurrection, for his role in sparking the deadly riot.

No, not it does not. My level of significance has never been attached to any fucking politician. I sure hope that's the case for everyone here, unless they also happen to be a family member.

Note - You edited your post after I was already responding. I don't live my life in hindsight. In 2016 I felt voting for Trump was the right choice. And even now, I still wouldn't have voted Hillary Clinton. Also, I voted in CA for Trump, so my vote had zero impact on him becoming president.

I said I voted for him in 2016 because I thought it was the right choice at the time out of Trump or Clinton. What other answer do you need? Do I cry myself to sleep because I voted for him? No, I don't. I'd vote for the devil himself over Hillary Clinton.

Note - Who I actually wanted to vote for was Rick Santorum during that election. I'm sure I'll get shredded for that too. That's why I have never mentioned in previously. But by the time of CA's primary, he was no longer on the ballot. If anything, I would have written his name in. But no, I don't lose sleep over voting for Trump, and he was going to become president no matter what I did.

First he has already admitted it to others he knew it was a lie and they have testified to it. Georgia is what might put him in Jail if they can convict.

The issue will be the jury. It probably will be virtually impossible to find one that would be impartial (At least a quarter would convict no matter what and a quarter of them would acquit no matter what).

Trump Probably Won’t Go to Jail
All of this shifts the playing field toward Trump in any coming investigation. There is a widespread cultural and legal expectation that ex-presidents are not charged, much less imprisoned. Indeed, if Trump went to jail, that would be unprecedented. And we should expect Trump to insist on this relentlessly: if previous presidents, even Nixon, did not go to jail, then why should he.
The extreme charges against Trump are the wildcard though. Trump was uniquely disloyal to the office. His corruption – such as using the White House for a political party convention or directing government business toward his hotels – was not unprecedented, even if it was unbecoming. The real issue is the insurrection charge. That directly violates the presidential oath of office, something not even Nixon did. If Americans find they have had enough of assumed presidential immunity, then Trump and his many abuses of power, culminating in an effort to subvert an election, would be a good place to start changing that norm.

Former federal appeals court judge: Trump could be sentenced to prison
J. Michael Luttig, a prominent conservative attorney, thinks the crimes Trump may have committed in trying to overturn the election would require any judge to give him prison time.

“I don’t know that a district judge would have any choice but to sentence the former president to imprisonment under the terms and provisions of these various offenses,” retired U.S. Court of Appeals Judge J. Michael Luttig said in a wide-ranging interview on the Yahoo News “Skullduggery” podcast

Luttig, who for years was considered one of the leading conservative jurists in the country and who testified last summer as a star witness in the committee’s hearings, also said that he sees “poetic justice” in the panel’s investigation. In particular, he singled out the work of Vice Chair Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., who, despite losing a primary to a Trump-backed opponent, pressed the panel to make its criminal referral to the Justice Department, which recommended that the former president and others be investigated for violating four federal statutes in their efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

“The poetic justice of these historic hearings is that the president set out to destroy the January 6th committee and the political careers of its members,” said Luttig. “And it is the committee that will end the political career of the former president. It will have been Liz Cheney who ended Donald Trump's political career— his, not hers.”

If he was found guilty yes of course it would warrant imprisonment (and yes I think he is guilty as sin). Problem still returns to getting a conviction and that will require an impartial jury and I just don't see that being a possibility.

https://www.dallasnews.com/news/2023/03/18/donald-trump-says-hell-be-arrested-tuesday-as-new-york-prosecutor-eyes-charges/

NEW YORK— Donald Trump said in a social media post that he will be arrested Tuesday as a New York prosecutor is eyeing charges in a case examining hush money paid to women who alleged sexual encounters with the former president.

Trump said in a post on his Truth Social network early Saturday that “illegal leaks” from the Manhattan district attorney’s office indicate that “THE FAR & AWAY LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE & FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY OF NEXT WEEK.”
Trump urged his followers to protest.

Law enforcement officials in New York have been making security preparations for the possibility that Trump could be indicted.

There has been no public announcement of any time frame for the grand jury’s secret work in the case, including any potential vote on whether to indict the ex-president.
