Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
Anybody read this article about The Rule of 26-27-60? Now I'm not sure of the success percentage rate of qb's that do meet the standards of this rule, but that's got to be encouraging for fans of Dalton and McElroy, who I haven't heard barely anything about in the so far limited pre-draft hype. Now looking at the stats there are successfull quarterbacks in the NFL that didn't pass this rule, Favre, Rodgers and McNabb amongst them, but there are a lot of first round draft pick quarterback busts who were drafted high but failed this rule. From this year's class the guys who passed were Ponder, Dalton, McElroy, and Gabbert.
I also thought the lone comment from the article was very interesting. Don't know if it is true or not though. "1-27-2011 @ 5:56PM rufwork said... Wow, Peyton a 28 Wonderlic, Eli 39 (quiet b/c he's pensive?), and Fitzpatrick a 48. I knew Harvard == smart, but didn't realize scores on the test went that high. New respect for Eli, though. Interesting link and post. Thanks." |

watching it on NFLN... so far, Locker doesn't look all that great, accuracy is off, as advertised. Ponder looks like the better player so far.

Name a player on the North that looks good. So far it's a complete shit show. Locker got four pass attempts and was blindsided on one play because that first round graded tackle from Colorado crapped his pants and got embarrassed. How can anyone tell anything by that? |

Ponder looked good today I was a bit surprised

The combo of Ponder to Mr. Hankey dominated. |

Lol I knew you would say something SS!!! No guy looked better than anyone today BUT it doesn't mean he's a star in the making.. I was impressed by his accuracy I will say that |

He has accuracy and smarts. The two together can take you far in the NFL. |
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
So why is it 33 people voted to take a QB at #10? If I am correct a lot of people have been saying Locker would be the best pick in this draft class, or at least the safest. Making my desire for taking a defensive pick first look good right now. Keep crapping the bed Locker!!!

Quote me on what I said. Sometimes you need to face the facts Brody81. Brian Orakpo in my opinion is still a lazy player similar to when he was in Texas. He'll come off the sidelines playing like DWare, then by the 5th snap he's no where to be found. I think that since I'm as big of a Redskin fan as any of you, it's alright for me to think this. |
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
To be honest, today was the first time that I had a chance to see much of Locker and I can't say I'm very impressed. In fact, I like Stanzi about 1000x more! I didn't see much of him, but I loved what I saw. Not sure what the "experts" are saying about him but if we could get him with our 2nd (do we have a 2nd? I lost track) I'd be pretty happy, especially if it meant we got some LB or OL help in the first.
Also, as a biased Terps fan who happens to sport a #23 jersey to all the home games, I would love it if the Skins could end up with Da'rel Scott in one of the later rounds but I doubt that will happen. I'm glad to see he had a nice day today. Best of luck to him! |

No doubt about that, if you had to compare him to any other QB who would it be? Some say Chad Pennington but Ponder is more mobile imo. |
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
What I found interesting was when Mayock broke down Locker's footwork. His base is initially very narrow and then becomes really wide. They then said that that was like an infielder's throwing motion. He actually was a pitcher and outfielder
Perhaps some of Locker's issues are fixable. |

Agreed. Ponder resembles a Pennington with legs and maybe a better deep ball. |
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
Hey I'm not here to start bashing the guy. I'm just saying that he's lazy and could be even better if he was using that same speed on every play.
Really? If our D had 11 guys who played as "lazy" as Orakpo, this would be a top-5 unit. Get a clue.

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
How did Phil Taylor, Andy Dalton, Vincent Brown, Titus Young, Austin Pettis and Casey Matthews look in this game?

I wasn't actually paying much attention, but Taylor did power over a guard in the game. |

Caught a glimpse of the game. Hopefully it re-airs today, early.

Yeah but Tebow was also the golden boy with unmatched intangibles, and something no one else can ever have.... The jump pass. |
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
I voted QB but, with so many areas of need, a case can be made for every position listed in the poll choices. We should take a QB only if one can be found deemed to be the longterm solution to the problem at the position. Otherwise, make an attempt to trade out and help fill the other needy areas.

It's very difficult to change habits that have been formed for many years. That being said, I don't think the correct way of planting ones lower body will benefit some athletes that play a specialized position like QB. This might be the reason Kyle Shanahan does not emphasis making corrections to what's natural to QBs, in other words, let them play with what comes natural to them. Of course, if it is a glaring problem then show the proper way to do the same task correctly. |

If Ponder is in fact a Pennington clone with a stronger arm we would be smart to go after him. |

I think footwork is more "coachable" than many other aspects that goes into a QB's throw since. I don't think planting is irrelevant to QB'ing since the QB uses the whole body to throw. A slight difference body part positioning is very likely to affect how the ball is going to come out. I don't have a horse in this race as I don't know any of the QBs well enough, but I did think what Mayock pointed was interesting. |

So, would you agree that in essence Mayock was saying that patience is a virtue when thinking of drafting Locker. I hear project in what you said Mayock mentioned when talking about Locker's delivery. The reason I mentioned the word "project" is because throwing a pass with ill-advise lower half technique is a time learning concept than say, a shoulder throwing technique. Meaning that the upper body motion is easier to correct with practice. Which in itself is less cumbersome. |

Yes, Locker needs much polish indeed. |

So realizing how the Skins are defined by schemes and positional depth, what would you do with the first round pick we have? |

The most I can say is that I would generally take BPA over need. I'm not qualified to propose anything more detailed. |
