Ted Leonsis has been the owner for 10 years and we have yet to win a Stanley Cup. He's got to go!!!!
Seriously though, I really hope this is the year. Rock the Red!
Dude, Mike Illitch has owned the Wings since who knows when. The Wings sucked bad in the 70's to early 80's, then he got Jacque Dumeres and they were a playoff team, but Gretztsky, and the Black Hawks kept them from the playing for Lord Stanley, then Dumeres left, for Brian Polano who sucked ass. It wasn't til Bowman came around that the Wings were real contenders and actually won it. My point is Leonsis so far has done a real nice job for the Caps. You guys were right where the Wings were in the 70's, they sucked ass, and now you are a good solid, young team!!!! Patience, you might get your cup this year and even maybe next as well. PS. Sorry about misspelling Jacque's last name! |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Do you think the Danny has to go also? Hasn't even made a conference title game since he has been the owner.

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Its such BS that Ovechkin gets 2 games for an boarding call that wasn't even a hit from behind. Matt Cooke's hit on Marc Savard got a new rule implemented in the NHL - but his didn't get a game misconduct, suspension, or fine.
The only reason Ovechkin got what he got is because the NHL thinks he is a dirty player. However, there is a difference between dirty and intense. The perfect example is Sean Taylor. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Yeah, just comes with the attention he gets I guess. I've seen way worse, the guy just didn't brace himself well.

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
No one can say we're a one man team, we dominate even without him, hell we've looked great in pretty much every game without him. Not to say he brings the team down by any means, I think some of the players focus on getting him the puck more because you know what he can do with it. Either way, we're a great team, let's bring that cup to DC.

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
2 goals in less than 2 minutes apart to go up 3-2 on the pens. I love it! Semin's goal was so dirty too...

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
F-ING AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!! what a game i was fist pumping like hell when knuble scored his first shoot out goal to beat the sorry ass pens. i love how ov8 answered sissy crybaby's goal f the pens!

fuckin hurricanes always giving us issues

remember when we were cringing and waiting for Varly to get back?

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Man, we really need this win against Ottawa. We MUST get off this losing skid before we go into the playoffs.
On another note, I was in Dupont today for a meeting and I saw a good bit of Ottawa Senators walking down the sidewalk around noon. They were getting some lunch. It was pretty cool. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
You take a penalty in OT, its almost a 100% chance you will lose...Damnit

That goal looked really easy, too. Oh well, we still get another point. Man, we play a lot of overtime games. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
again.. and yes, way too many OT games
our GT'ing needs to step up if we plan on winning the cup.. you can't count on scoring 3-4+ a game to win it, I'll never complain when we do score that, but come on boston vs nj tonight was a good game |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
How horrible was our penalty kill tonight? What did we give up, like 3 pp goals on 4 pk's? That's atrocious. And this 3 game losing streak is happening at exactly the wrong time. We need to be playing at an acceptable level at least and it's not happening.
And we've been giving up a lot of iffy goals lately too, not really our fault but just bad bounces I guess. Still though if goaltending becomes an issue in the playoffs that doesn't bode well for us. Is it too early to get concerned or does this look like the beginning of a downhill slide for us that ends with another playoff exit? |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
It's time to see if Varly should play in the Playoffs. Better yet see if Neuvy is ready for the spotlight. Jose is picking the wrong time to regress.

All the more reason to find out now if he can regain his early season form, rather then crossing our fingers during the playoffs. |

When we pulled Theo on Sunday, Varly didn't look very good at all. The good thing about Varly is that he'll make some amazing saves, the bad thing is that he lets in way too many easy goals. Bottom line - we stick with the same game plan for the playoffs. Theo is the starter, if he is having a bad game, Varly comes in. You always have to ride your hot goalie. Since we don't have a hot goalie right now, we need to ride our most experienced. |

When there are only 3 players on the ice, all goals look easy. |

I know not every team has amazing goaltending and even with Brodeaur you can't count on your team to not give up more then 3 goals in a given game but Varly's performance earlier in the season was to good to not at least attempt to recapture the magic when you have little to play for. |

Yeah, I wouldn't mind seeing Varly come in for a few games here late in the season. However, even if he is playing well, I think we still need to ride Theo as far as we can in the playoffs. I would however love to see Varly go on a tear! |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
They look a lot better tonight. Looks like someone lit them up in the locker room.

Pens game coming up
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
4-2 Caps with a few minutes to go in the 2nd and the Pens just got completely robbed of a goal because the ref blew the whistle too early. I love it!!! That almost makes up for the huge power play advantage they've had this whole season.

Good game :)

Theodore has played much more consistently than Varly this season. So yes, I'm supporting theo. Give him the start come playoff time. |

Thats the dumbest thing I've ever read. Theo is the most consistant and experienced goalie that the Caps have. Hate to break it to you but Varly isn't quite ready to be the franchise goalie yet. Sure, he makes remarkable saves, but then he lets in the easy ones. With Theo you know what you're going to get most nights. Varly, I'm sorry to say, you don't know how he is going to play. I like Varly, and one day he'll be our guy, but right now he's not. I'm just curious, why do you not like Theo? |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Right now I'm backing Theo to lead us into the playoffs.
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Yeah it's all Theo. People bring up how good Varly was early in the season before he got injured but that was a long time ago, and he hasn't been able to reach that level since he got back from his injury. Theo's gotta be our guy for the playoffs just because he's been consistent.

Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Another great team performance. This CAPS team is RED hot ROCKIN getting ready to roll into round one.
Heck of a game for the GREAT 8 and NICKY B. GO CAPS!!!! http://capitals.nhl.com/ Updated: April 9, 2010, 9:39 PM ET Ovechkin takes scoring, points leads WASHINGTON -- Alex Ovechkin has joined Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy as the only players to reach at least 50 goals in four of their first five NHL seasons. Ovechkin entered the Washington Capitals' game against the Atlanta Thrashers on Friday night with 48 goals, one behind league leader Sidney Crosby of Pittsburgh. But Ovechkin pulled even with Crosby with a goal in the second period, then got No. 50 in the third to pull ahead. Ovechkin also had a first-period assist, helping him take over the league lead in points, too. The Russian left wing's career high for goals in a season is 65, in 2007-08. Washington has one more regular-season game, Sunday against Boston. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
Awesome game tonight. We played well in pretty much every aspect of the game.
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
So nice to see them actually on TV rather then watching in hit or miss internet quality.
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2009-2010 ongoing thread
I just did my best GTripp impression and found that had Ovechkin played in every game this year he would have had around 57 goals and 126 points. Crosby is most likely going to end up with 50 according to the math. Then again he is playing the Thrashers.
