The best case scenerio involving the compensation for this deal is if Denver finishes slightly in front of us or very close, allowing the flip flop of the 1st rd pick which shouldn't be all that significant, in doing so we can hang on to our 4th rd pick.

we dont have a 4th pick...and everything says that we're going to give up our 2007 4th round draft pick...i really dont get that

Be happy about TJ because Colts Mungro is done for the year. Shall we look now to dump off Betts who will hardly get touches with us this year???

I kind of would like to be greedy and keep all of them.

Everything hangs on the guys passing their team physicals. Does TJ have any concerns in that area? Was he hurt at all this training camp??

It funny after the Jets game I remember being in such a funky mood I was crying how I wanted what the Steelers had in a bettis type guy, a Duce, a Parker, a haynes - and we have just that TJ, CP, Betts. Rock. I couldnt be more happier.

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?

How can anyone not like this trade, his initials are TD! Ok, hokeyness aside, this is a fantastic move for the Redskins. This should ensure there won't be as much of a dropoff if Portis is dinged and provide a nice battering ram at the goal line and in short yardage situations.

Anyone else remember when Gibbs used to have a 3rd and 1 near mid-field, put Riggins or Riggs in and do play action and go deep? Worked almost everytime. Look for it again this year..

BDBohnzie 08-23-2006 02:16 PM

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?

Gibbs has a bruiser for goalline situation, as well as another change of pace back. MJG has a good point, as I am happy with all 4 as well.

Plus, it makes it that much easier to keep Warrick Dunn in my keeper league (got him 5th round last year)

I didn't provide a link to the denver paper because the link wasn't working. Here it is anyways Rocky Mountain News: Broncos & NFL

It looked like kffl.com made a mistake and they already have a thing correcting it.

Correcting a previous report, the Denver Broncos could swap first-round picks with the Washington Redskins as part of the three-team deal involving former Broncos WR Ashley Lelie. If the Broncos finish with a better record than the Redskins, Denver would receive the Redskins' third-round pick and they would flip-flop first-round picks. If the Redskins finish with a better record than the Broncos, Denver would receive the Redskins' third- and fourth-round picks in the 2007 NFL Draft.
I am finding all this on the eagle site by the way.

And Larry Michaels is reporting that we sent a third to denver.

I don't think we will have a clue of the peramaters of this deal until we hear it from Gibbs own mouth.

All this speculating is getting crazy.

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?

it is a three way deal, all three parties got something in exchange theres no third to the falcons just lelie, and as far as tj goes it looks like the "DVD" connection in atlanta is finaly over, but personally i feel duckett has always been a beast, and now we might re-coup the third round loss with a trade of betts or maybe a solid corner. speaking of corners how is mike rumph fairing?
i agree, the redskins have not yet released a report that says we have him, atleast not one that i have seen. could it be because we are waiting to wrap him up long term?
I certainly hope that is the case because there is no way I can get excited about it otherwise. While I like the trade I don't want to have to concern myself with "Is he going to be here after the season is over" There's just no way I beleive they would do the deal without a remake of his contract. For me that's all that's left that is of any interest.

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?

Guys, Im sorry to say I have not read 23 pages of this thread to see if this concern has been addressed. Duckett is a free agent at the end of this season, so is Ladell. If Ladell has any trade value, don't we have to move him now? Also, it is very very possible that we just gave away a 3rd rounder for the services of a backup for one lousy season.
Picture this: the 5 linemen down, Fauria on the line at TE on the left side, Moss on the line wide right, cooley in the wing on the right side, sellers at FB and Duck at tailback.

Cooley goes in motion, ball snaps and cooley wrecks the DE or LB with a crackback block from motion, Randy Thomas pulls left...Bascially you have Fauria, Samuels, and Dockery off the line, Thomas pulling around, and sellers coming from the backfield...the poor fella not already taken would have Duckett to tackle. And if they stack it up to TRY and out muscle us we have hard nosed recievers that will go for the ball regaurdless of the hit coming....yeah, i'm loving this trade.
But think of that same situation with Portis in the backfield instead of TJ. Thats how its gonna be

I really don't think this is necessary.

Being so Duckett is only 25, I see a 5 year deal in his future if he has a stellar season.

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?

This is assuming Duckett wants to stay with us as a goal line/change of pace back rather than the featured back (25+ carries a game). Something he already was grumbling about with the Falcons. He might but I'm not banking on him staying past this year.

BleedBurgundy 08-23-2006 04:50 PM

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?

I understand everyone's being cautious about this, but I couldn't be happier. We NEED a short yardage back. Duckett is one of the best in the league. I think we were all concerned about Portis' durability getting the ball 25-30 times in a game. This alleviates that concern.

I remember reading an article this summer where Portis had been talking about wanting Edgerrin James to sign with the skins to help share the load and keep fresh. That tells me that CP is going to LOVE this. That's not the case with every back as some guys see it as a threat to their job. If he wanted a quality back to team with, why not?

Every single person I know who is a fan of other teams (cowgirls, eagles, ravens, etc...) all asked me the same question: How do you guys do this under the cap? To hear the exasperation in their voices is a thing of beauty. They just get this confused look on their face that's impossible to understand.

Everyone worried about sending a 1st to the Broncos if we finish with a worse record has got to look at it this way: We put our money where our mouth is. Our front office had the balls to say TO A LIKELY SUPERBOWL CONTENDER that after everything is said and done this year, we will be the better team. How does that not psyche you up as a fan of this team?

Lastly, Joe Gibbs signed off on this move. That's really all I need to know.

Peace.

Thats something we have to examine. Im sure they will find that out soon as I figure they'll talk contract unless the plan is not trade betts but rather have a competition to see who is more productive but that is kinda lame. I like how we keep adding veterans everyweek.

I heard a caller on the Dan Patrick show today mention that there were a number of grumblings in the Atlanta area about trading Duckett. It's nice to know we got someone that the other team or fan base actually wanted to keep.
