Contradiction...
We are one of the least "deep" and talented in the league, and you may not see Amendola have a better game then this because there are better secondary's that'll be able to man up and jam him off the line. Haslett didn't have many options.. I don't know what he could of done besides play man across the board, and hope for the best. Even then, I don't see Riley being able to man up on the slot all game. If it was ME. I would of brought in Crawford to man up Amendola in rotation w/ Hall and run a Over Man at the top. Still wouldn't of stopped the quick throws, but at least we could made Bradford think about it.
My point was that we arent the worst secondary in football and amedola wont have a game like that against lesser ones. Therefore it is hasletts fault and i agree with having hall / crawford rotate in slot and playing man across board. Haslett though stuck to his guns for far too long. |
I just watch the NFL network replay and this is what I saw:
Lots of cushion by the DB's Griffin the CB had a bad game Rams OL got away with lots of holding Refs were horrendous Tackling by the defense in general was horrendous lots of mistackles No anticipation by the defense on lots of plays (bad coaching) Fred Davis dropped like 3 balls Robinson dropping the deep ball (something was mentioned by the lights on the dome causing it) Blocked punt changed the gameNo one covering on Mulligan's TD in the endzone easy 2 pt. conversion given Overall the skins were in the game, a bonehead play by Morgan, a bad decision to go for a 62 yard field goal after initially looking like they were going for the first down. Next week they kick ass on the Bengals.
We've been talking all week at work about this, the block punt WAS the most important play in the game. In fact, the RG3 Int was the second most important play in the game. The Aldrick Robinson drop the 3rd. The Morgan play is over rated and everyone been pointing to it. Cundiff was not a gurantee to make the game tieing kick. Just going back and looking at the plays, we committed a ton of errors on the field. Take out the block punt, RG3 Int and the Robinson drop, we probably win 13-17 points minimum and were not crushing Haslett all week. This is still a young team, trying to come together as a group. Gotta give it a lil more time. |

Take away that play and we likely come home with a W. |

Apparently Haslett and Danny Smith were recently signed to extensions |
Re: Did Shanny Strip Haslett of Play Calling vs Rams?
I' m still vacationing and still don't have reason to believe this story is true
|
Im Not nearly in the know as smootsmack and if they were recently signed to contract extensions than i can only assume snyder has bought vinny back into the fold.

Re: Did Shanny Strip Haslett of Play Calling vs Rams?
The contract extension was also reported by the Wapo, maybe they got the story from profootballtalk?

Re: Did Shanny Strip Haslett of Play Calling vs Rams?
Didn't Danny Smith and Jim Haslett receive contract extensions like a year ago? Because, I don't see the logic in giving those coaches, yet, another contract extension after two blocked punts, no decent kick-off returns, and two games in which the defense gave up 30+ points. That just does not compute, so I'm calling BS on that part of the story.
I can, however, believe that Raheem Morris was brought in to replace Haslett by next year. And, it just might happen sooner than that if the 'skins defense is starting to take sides (Haslett VS Morris.) My personal opinion, I've never been very high on Haslett to begin with, but I do give him credit with improving the defense from his first year. Unfortunately, with the injuries starting to pile up, I don't see a continuation of improvement on the defensive side of the ball. However, it's just two games, so things may drastically change between now and by mid-season. |
Re: Did Shanny Strip Haslett of Play Calling vs Rams?
whether they get extentions or not, they still could be fired at a drop of a hat if their performance lags...non-story imo

Agreed! I don't see it being much of a factor regardless. If it is true, it was probably just something that was agreed upon several months ago. |
Re: Did Shanny Strip Haslett of Play Calling vs Rams?
I don't see the defense taking sides. Morris was brought in to help the weakest part of our team. The secondary. He's great at motivating his guys and they'll be loyal to him but they'll still understand that Haslett is the DC. I see Morris cheering on the offense and keeping his guys motivated while they're getting burnt...but he's also helping them play better than they really are, especially in Week 1.
We're in the 3rd year of the 3-4 and should see some strides this year barring any more devastating injuries like Kerrigan, Bowen, Cofield, Wilson, Hall or God forbid Fletcher. I don't know why we're struggling so much other than our secondary is being exploited, but I don't see a mutiny happening. |
Re: Did Shanny Strip Haslett of Play Calling vs Rams?
No one, at least it seems to me, is pointing out that the Defense is directly responsible for 1 redskins touchdown in each game. I think that is worth some discussion as well

That, I give the players all the credit for making the big plays. It's not the players I'm concerned about. |

Special teams canceled BOTH of those TDs out unfortunately. |
