Re: Free Agency/Franchise Tag thread 2011

I seem to recall that if a team placed the franchise tag on a player, there was a potential situation in which said team would not be able to use the franchise tag again until the franchised player's "new" contract expired. I really can't remember the details, but it seems to me that if you franchise a player and then sign him to a contract, you can't use the tag on another player until said contract expired. I may be totally off base with this, but I can't remember. Getting old sucks lol...

The way it worked (as far as I recall) is that they have a deadline to get a long term deal done by, which the franchise tag could be used again next year. If they work out a long term deal after that deadline, the franchise tag would apply to the length of the contract.

Most teams that don't get the deal done by that deadline, just have him sign the one year contract and get the deal done after the following season or use the franchise tag again.

This is my recollection on how it works.

Before this year, I'd take a chance on Cromartie. However, this year, the guy went bat crazy like Mariah Carey on us.

Good player. Just stay away though.

The Seymour contract does a really good job of protecting the Raiders against deadcap. However, it is hard for me to see him being an effective player in 2012 considering he's already questionably effective as is. It's not a terrible deal, but it doesn't improve the Raiders chances of winning much if any over just letting him walk. And thats a lot of (shared revenue) money spent.

Oakland's big deal is that they were really ridiculously healthy in 2010. The team is on the rise, but even an average amount of injuries would put another .500 season as their ceiling for 2011.
Cromartie brings a lot baggage, and not just for his Brady Bunch family. Honestly I would keep Rogers over him.
As much as I dislike Rogers, I'm inclined to agree. The devil you know...

I don't think 22 will be here so I wouldn't mind making a play for cromartie. Yeah he's a punk off the field but the dude can make plays ON the field and that's all what matters. Plus it's not like he sells dope or shoots anyone, he just likes making babies :)

I'll take Rogers. He can't catch a cold, but the guy is pretty good corner. If he wants too much money, let him walk. I'd like to see what Kevin Barnes can do. I've felt for some time now that Barnes just might be the guy to play free safety here, so I'd love to see them give him a shot there.

Keep your eye on him, we need OLine help, and he's a Shanahan pick.

This would be huge.

Speaking of Denver, I'd be curious to see where Dummervil fits in their new 4-3 defense.

O.J. Atogwe will more likely be here next year because of Hasslet connection.
