for me, id like to see this.

-------------------altidore------------------buddle-----------------
--dempsey---------edu---------------------bradley-------donovan--
--boca-------------demerit-----------------gooch-------cherundolo--
--------------------------------howard------------------------------

buddle is a quality finisher, we need that in this team right now. he and donovan are club mates at la galaxy, so them on the right of attack is nice. throw dempsey up top for feilhaber again maybe after the half and take buddle off then if he is struggling. stay with gooch at cb, its hard for me to say that because he was so shitty today, but on his day he is great. goodson is shaky, he is the backup cb.

I like that lineup. Well done. Get an email out to Coach Bradley. :)

heres the video of the robbed goal. heres my explanation for it being totaly ridiculous

no one knows what the call was. either way, edu was miles onside, and bradley was being tackled into being a hair offside. when offsides is called, thats an indirect kick. the ref is seen walking away, no arm raised. when its indirect, the arm needs to be raised until the ball is touched. his arm is not raised, so we have no clue what was called.

landon donovan said this afterwards to espn
"I'm proud of our guys," he said. "I don't think there's many teams that would respond that way after going 2-0 down [but] I'm a little gutted, to be honest. I don't know how they stole that third goal from us. I'm not sure what the call was. I don't know."
On referee Koman Coulibaly, he added: "It was the guy's first World Cup game, so maybe he got a little caught up in the moment, but you can't take a perfectly good goal from a team, especially at a World Cup.
"When we asked him several times, in a non-confrontational manner, why he made that call, he just ignored us. Maybe he didn't understand us since I don't know how much English he speaks."
Wow. Thanks for posting the better angles Big C. I didn't see anything watching it live and my confusion is only confirmed by watching those clips.

If we get out of the group, the indignation will be quenched, but right now that call is a tough one to swallow. I'm pleased that we improved throughout the game and I'm hopeful we can put away Algeria, althought hey are looking pretty good against England in the first half.

Re: The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread

if we beat algeria by 2 goals or more, no other results matter. certainly algeria getting a result would be nice against england, but we dont need them to to have a chance to advance. we control our own destiny, like i said, with a 2 goal victory against algeria.

Re: The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread

With England shitting the bed against Algeria, a US win all but guarantees a ticket to the knockout round. England looked atrocious, and as saden said previous, could very well be done. Beckham's animated movement on the sidelines shows how frustrated the entire team is.

Re: The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread

excellent result for us in the algeria england game. here is the scenario for us advancing

1. a WIN and we are through, simple as that.

2. a DRAW for us and an england LOSS, or DRAW where they do not outscore us by 2. the final tiebreaker is goal differential, and when that is even it goes to most goals scored. right now we are even on goal differential but have 2 more goals scored. we are in great shape.

Just like Big C said, a win and we are in. Very simple.

Re: The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread

And yes I am very pissed terrible. I really think they need to adopt some sort of review(been saying this for years). Maybe 1 challenge per game, that's all.

I mean if we won it pretty much would be a sure fire way to the next round. Ireland lost a spot in the WC because of a handball. Countless games have been lost on dives in the box.

One review, a 4th official in the box takes a quick look, and gives a decision. Really two extra stoppages in the game wont hurt. My two cents.

Re: The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread

simply adding another ref to stand behind each goal to judge plays in the box would help. i doubt replay will ever be involved, because soccer is a game about constant flow. long stoppages would not be favored by fifa im sure.

I agree somewhat, but what if we get out of the group in the #2 slot and then must face group-winner Germany in the round of 16? We really want to win our group to avoid that outcome and the rubbish call which disallowed our goal makes that more difficult. This is just speculation, of course. With Germany playing like they played in their last game, they may not win their group. But if we are forced into a bad matchup in the round of 16, I'll still be pissed.

And the anger isn't just about the disallowed goal. Jozy Altidore had a couple of breakaway opportunities but was mugged, yet there were no foul calls. Plus the bad call against Findley.

Re: The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Thread

who said germany was definitely going to be first in their group? thats not guaranteed at all, germany may not even advance...all we can do is play our game, and the rest will fall into place. ghana are leading that group right now...

I am a HUGE soccer fan! Played it through college and now coach the high school level. The World Cup is something that unless you are a soccer fan is hard to describe to non-fans. It brings out serious national pride, esp since this is the first time in Africa. It is also a very challenging game both mentally and physically. The average soccer midfielder runs around 8-10 miles a game.

I love the NFL, esp my Skins but there are very few sports than can say the have a true "World Champion".

I can't believe New Zealand actually tied Italy. Many consider NZ the worst team in the tournament
