Huh????????????? Is the contract thing getting ugly or something?
It's been kind of ugly for a while. But look, I think he makes the roster but wouldn't be surprised if he's a last one in type of guy.

Much more likely that Mason and/or Rock gets cut.

Alridge vs. Dorsey will be really interesting. I doubt they both make it. In my opinion, AA is the far superior one but DD is the more dependable.

The way Griff tweaks his back every so often and Haynesworth isn't the most durable guy in the world, I'm betting both Monty and Ceddy make the team. If anything, Wynn is on the bubble. Not that he was that secure to begin with.

Rock is a good kr. But there's better out there I'm shocked he's still on the roster.
Alridge is crazy fast, but just can't stay healthy on a consistent basis. So I'd probably give the nod to Dorsey over Rock.

Wouldn't be surpised to see Rock get cut. I think his groin injury is worse than is being let on.

I'll tell you another possibility, a long-shot but a real possibility. And this won't be a popular one...Mike Sellers.
You're right, definitely not popular.

If we had another option at FB that was anywhere close to Caveman, I'd agree with you. But the fact is, without him we've got a 7th round rookie converted TE/HB, and nothing else. I don't see how we can part with Big Mike just yet.
Not that I think it will happen, but just out of curiousity, how much of a cap hit would we take if we cut Betts?
$1.975 to keep him, about $2.8 to cut him. Mason is younger and faster and Betts doesn't do anything much better than him. That said, we're not cutting Rock and Betts, and I'd say Rock is more likely to go.

Sellers is safe, unless I'm secretly picking the rosters, in which case the fullback position will probably just slip my mind entirely.

On the Skins website on "Inside the Redskins" the question was asked if Mason has a chance to crack the squad. This was the answer:
Gary: Running back is a crowded position on the Redskins right now. Portis is not going anywhere and neither is Ladell Betts. Coaches have said they are committed to using Betts as a third-down back. Mason is in competition with Rock Cartwright for the No. 3 job. That means Mason needs to establish himself on special teams. Cartwright is a special teams leader and it would be hard for special teams coach Danny Smith to lose Khary Campbell, James Thrash and Cartwright in one year. I disagree with the notion that Mason has game-breaking speed, actually. If you want a good change of pace back, I’d suggest Anthony Alridge, who really impressed in last Friday’s preseason game vs. New England.
The part I high lighted irritates me the most. They keep saying Mason is a good runner but must "establish" himself on special teams. Yet the reverse is over looked. Cartwright is a good kick returner but (in my and many of people's oppinions) has failed to "establish" himself as a RB, thus why he has been relegated to 3rd string for atleast 5 out of his 7 yrs with the team. The team and fans keep mentioning that they want the 3rd sting RB to serve a duel roll. Yet for 5 yrs Rock has served one. I know, I know, you guys are going to say Rock has served as a RB as well. I beg to differ. When Portis went down the team gave Betts the starting nod and tried out Rock. Apparently he did not impress cause they went out and picked up the "TTB."

The double standard kills me. I know I'll hear the " If we let Rock go we need someone to KR then which Mason does not do well." and I challenge with we have Thomas who did well the other day, Moss who has filled in nicely on PR's ...not much different then KR's, and to be honest why not use Betts who has done the job admirably in his first few yrs on the team prior to it being handed over to Rock. Heck Betts is going to get few RB duties so picking up this job would not over extend him.

Ultimatly my choices are Portis, Mason, Alridge. However it sounds like they are going to keep Betts and if they are adament about keeping him then my choices would be Portis, Betts, Alridge. We need a speed back to add not only a change of pace but to create some nice packages in any 2 RB plays.

There's no double standard, nobody is out to screw over Mason.

As the #3 back Rock is just fine, but his main role is ST. Typically that's what you are looking for from that spot. Like it or not Mason is not a standout on ST, and it's likely what will cost him a roster spot again this year.

Rock might not be a lock to make the team, but it will be Dorsey or Alridge that take his spot, not Mason.

Hey Matty, you might need to double the RAM upgrade just for Saturday's roster cuts :silly:
'You'll see him talking to young guys over the course of practice because he knows how we do it,' Smith said. 'It's one thing for me to teach it and coach it, but when you have guys like Rock that help you help the young guys understand, then you become a better team'

Um, what exactly do the coach's get paid to do? I'll be the first to say we need the vets to help coach up the rookies or young guys. Especially when it comes to offense/defense, but were talking special teams. On KR's it's block someone. On Kick offs its stay in your lane. All Rock has to do is decide if he's going to catch it or let it head toward the endzone. If he decides to catch it run like hell. I guess there is a lot to learn there.
I think Danny explained it pretty well, it's one thing to teach it, it's another to have a player that's been there/done that show the guys how it's done.

I know you have a serious mancrush on Mason, but you're really fishing with stuff like this to justify a way to bump Rock off the team.

Huh? Seriously? U don't cut a guy who just went to the PB and remains arguably a top 3 player at his position. I know big Mike caused trouble about his contract...he's still playing lights out on the field. I would just be inconsolable (for a good 5 to 10 minutes) if we cut Sellers :)

Sadly, I think there's going to be a bigger backlash from the fans if we cut Colt than if we cut Sellers.

Oh man no kidding. The Cult of Colt could start a mutiny and bring down the site!

I can say one think I don't envy the coaches/FO one bit this time of season as making cuts would just eat at you. I'd keep thinking "what if this guy has an upside I'm missing right now?" And this year especially we've got some real serious competition at certain spots.

what if the cut list somehow included: Colt, Mason, and Marko. Oh the drama :)

edit: I know Marko is far fetched, but it would be huge for dramatic effect.
