Re: JLC: Redskins Sign WR Reche Caldwell

We just picked up the best wr available. While a no. here have said that the Pats only release players that no longer have it, you have to look at this year & say the Pats acted a little out of character (no comment on the spying thing). They signed big name Free agents a la the danny; Thomas, Moss, Welker, Stallworth et al.

Whereas the Skins were pretty quiet. It would be the sweetest irony if Caldwell turns out to be a solid wr for us & helps us win, while Moss acts a fool & Stallworth gets hurt as they often do.

Maybe this is a case where the Pats made the wrong move? We'll see. Come Oct. 28 we'll get a real good look.

Caldwell is a solid move, he should be able to contribute on 3rd downs at the least.

For those complaining about the front office just look at the Browns. Talk about a team in complete disarray.

It is true that Caldwell is a good WR, but I don't think we need him in the depth. Moreover, he screwed up the championship game with the pats last year by dropping a lot of crucial throws which means that he's not that good under pressure.

Yes, he did drop that one ball, but look he is still a solid receiver something we need desperately. Someone who goes out every week and you can expect around the same numbers from them. I have never really had that feeling from a Redskins receiver, but it is nice to know that Reche will be there for maybe 3-5 catches a game.
Any day you want to compare Passing yards, passing yards per game, TD passes, avg yards per completion, completion percentage, interceptions, QB rating and ANY QB stat comparing Romo to Jason Campbell, I would love to be there.

Oh yeah not to mention the biggest stat...WINS.
OK, then we'll have to compare Julius and Marion  to Portis and Betts since we run more than you (a sign of a better offense).

They should have signed Kelvin Kight who is another Patriot WR that was cut formally from the U of Florida. Did you see his game against the Giants? He will be a steal.
Didn't you read it was too boring for me too watch.

Try the whole season with a rookie and you will get rookie results.

Adding WR just does not make any sense that all. Washington goes out Gets Lloyd and Randel El cut Patten picks Thrash up and now picks up Reche. Yall are not good at throwing the ball in the first place why keep adding WR.
If you were too bored to watch, then your too ignorant to comment on. So do everyone a favor and don't. Go blab off some homer comments to some other homer cowboys board.

We don't have to try a season with a rookie, because a rookie filled in for Jansen against Miami. His back-up (who didn't play against Miami because he was nursing an injury) is proven tackle Todd Wade, who some even consider an upgrade over aging Jansen.

So we'll have rookie Stephon Heyer (who filled in flawlessly against Miami), backing up proven veteran Todd Wade. That's depth more than most teams in the NFL.

Adding another teams former #1 WR to challenge an unproductive Lloyd (a #3 receiver) right now makes all the sense in the world. I personally think it's a great signing.

Oh, and like I said before, make sense... or go home. No one wants to here you whine about something that you don't know what your talking about.
why are the Redskins still adding wideouts that are not worth shi*. I was watching that Miami game a little Sunday as I kept falling asleep because it was so boring and saw when Jansen went down. I knew he was gone for the season instantly. Why not pick up some depth there. Geez the skins management is so dumb. Way worse then the Cowboys management for not picking up D Darius at safety and having a team filled with DE on defense. I see it now skins are gonna trade away there draft picks again. I love it.
I'm with Rob. You really, really, really must not have paid any goddamn attention whatsoever.

Not only that, what about depth for the Cowboys? You neglected to mention their depth. At least the Skins aren't super worried because they have not just ONE, but TWO capable backups.

What happens if the Cowboys have ANYONE on the OL go down? Who's their backup that's going to step in and not miss a beat? I'd love to know...
While I'd absolutely love to see Lloyd gone because I hate his guts and think he's completely worthless, I think we're probably stuck with him through 2008 at the least.

Releasing him any time before the end of this season would put us over the salary cap for this year, so we can't do that.

Releasing him after the season ends, but before June 1, would cost us $3.0 million in 2008 cap space. Releasing him after June 1 would save us about $2.5 million of 2008 space, but we'd have to eat a dead cap charge of $5.3 million in 2009.

They could always try to trade him like they did with Archuleta, and get a team to redo his deal and assume some signing bonus money for us. That'd keep our cap hit nice and low. But I can't see anyone wanting the bum!

I've seen the Skins eat big charges before, so anything is possible, but I would call it very likely that we'll keep him through 2008 at minimum.
I think you are right on with them not cutting him sooner than later - you'd have to think with Gibbs getting up there in years the focus is on win now at all costs and worry about the future later - they'll probably defer the cap hit until 2009 like you said and someone else besides Gibbs will have to deal with the issue at that time.

One other thing to consider with the timing of Llyod's cut - does cutting Brunell and Springs in the coming years have an effect on the cut timing decision as well?

Kind of crazy that with Reche we now have 4 players from the 2nd round of the 2002 draft-Caldwell, Portis, Betts, Randle El

He's already had a better career than most, though the pats kept gaffney didn't they?

Wow. I thought Caldwell was older than that.

He will be a game day inactive for the whole season unless we have an injury to one of the wideouts
