collins is probably going to opt out of his deal and leave.
Why? Where in the hell is he going to go? His only option would probably be back to KC.
Wow. The hate for MB always amazes me. Yes, he had/has his physical limitations and some of the blame for a losing season has to fall on him. But, lordy, some of you act like he is evil incarnate.

Oh wait, maybe YOU are evil incarnate and you cannot help but hate on a god-fearing noodle armed QB.
LOL! Noodle armed QB? Looks like your doing some hating too. In a good way of course.

This makes sense both financially and for the football side, as Schneed pointed out. Brunell could be very effective as a spot reliever. Without the pressure of being the starter he would be more willing to take chances. It' a whole different psychology.

If this comes off as reported without a big hoo-ha it will be a credit to the leadership of Gibbs and hopefully indicative of a more measured and reasoned approach to personell decisions.

To those who say Brunell is inadequate as a backup, I say "Name me someone else."
Good grief! People are so worried that Brunell is going to step out on the field. Lord forbid he does and leads this team to the Super Bowl. Maybe saying the name "Mark Brunell" should be added to the list of the "PC" movement instead of Redskin. Just sounds like to me that a few get offended whenever he does something to help the team. The guy is a team player and has contributed alot of positives to this thing. For ever negative he has contributed can be said for all of our other players this past year as well. The fact of the matter is, I trust Mark Brunell a whole heck of a lot more as our #2 guy than somebody like Todd Collins who is up there in age as well and has hardly thrown a ball in the NFL that mattered to anybody.
Perhaps "HE who shall not be named"

I would hope they dont make a trade for Bly. that would mean giving up a future pick, or a player that we need. The safest bet is to pick Smoot back up. Word is he is going to get released by next week. My bet is he will willingly sign with Washington since he found the grass wasn't greener on the other side. Plus, he was in GW system and wouldn't have to learn another and fact he was loved in the DC area.

I think that may put a damper on the Clements thing. I dont know that Smoot would sign knowing he is a backup, and if Rogers is benched he will become a problem. Springs will more than likely be let go. I dont see him restructuring. He could be one of those releases that sign back once he see's he isn't worth what he thinks.

How about bringing in an undrafted FA who has nice physical skills to play 3rd string? Many teams do this. Some guys can play but don't get drafted. They just need a chance. Brady was drafted in the 6th round. Garcia had to play in the CFL.

I'm not going to get into a debate about Brunell. But honestly, bringing him back makes no sense to me. He simply can't play anymore and if he has to play then we are in trouble. Why bring him back even as back up if you know the guy can't get it done? QB's get hurt all the time in the NFL. Collins can handle playing if needed. He knows the offense and played OK during the pre season. Since Brunell has been here he has played 1/2 of a good season in three years, that in 05. I doubt Collins could do worse than that. Plus Brunell can't stay healthy. And I don't give a damn about Brunell's passing rating. His rating is flawed becase all he does is throw 5 yard passes to keep up his % and rating up. A college QB can come in and throw screens and check downs. Brunell doesn't even have confidence in his own abilities anymore, otherwise he would challenge opposing defenses vertically. We brought in all these WR's so we could have a vertical passing game. And if Brunell has to play then we go back to dink and dunk. It's not personal becasue I don't think he has been treated fairly by the fans. But it is soooooooo time to move on it's not even funny.

The FO should bring in a young guy that can grow and learn the offense. Let's face it. We are not going to the Super Bowl next year. Not with our defense. So bringing back an old aging QB without skills, coming off major shoulder surgery makes no sense at all. And I don't care about the cap crap. If Gibbs were not coaching this team it wouldn't even be a discussion. He would be gone. And if we had a GM who was not attached to the players he would be gone.

A - friggin' - men. Couldn't have said it better. If Brunell has to play more than a game or two for any reason, we're screwed.

Ah the responses that leap to mind:

- Just who's pole are you smelling?

- Does it have that manly musky odor you love so much?

- $10 bucks still your going rate?

I was a mod as smootsmack for a brief while. And JR, the going rate is now $15, but you still get the Platinum Club $8 discount
