Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
You gotta remember that Trent would need to show up at some point to get credit for the year, this was week 10 for Leveon bell last year so I assume the same.
Also, Trent is losing a lot of money but the Redskins don't get to use the money allocated to him on the Salary Cap. Is it worth taking a 23M cap loss for a player that isn't going to participate? Ultimately I don't think they will move him before week 1. Our new head coach next year with smooth things over and he will be back.
You lose $23M of useful cap space, but you save $23M in cash. That's not a football consideration but it's a big business consideration. I think Trent caves by week 1. It's too much money to leave on the table. |

I don't know the details of it, but I remember Andrew Brandt saying how last year, in terms of finances, L. Bell did not hurt the Steelers at all and all that money they didn't pay him went back to the team. |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
It shouldn't hurt the team , The league should have it set up as if the team just didn't spend that $ for the season. You would think anyway

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
If the money does go back onto the salary cap, TW sitting out would nearly solve the AS cap issue next year. Dang 2 birds with one stone!!!

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
I don't think Trent is on the team by week 1. Following the 3rd pre-season game, I think teams are going to start making us offers we can't refuse.

you are probably right, although we could wait a little longer if there is a bidding war. |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Speculation that as Clowney and the Texans aren't talking about signing, that he's likely up for trade. Clowney for Williams, much as I hate to see him go, could be a good deal. Texans need an LT, and Clowney could only enhance our front 7. Don't want to see Williams go but I think its a good trade if its on the table.

Id rather have a first round draft pick. Not knocking Clowney at all, but he plays at one of the few positions on the team that is already a position of strength, will want a huge contract, and i'd rather use the money to extend Scherff and Kerrigan. With a first round pick, we could draft Trents successor or some other area of greater need. |

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
As I understand it, Clowney didn't reach a contract by the July deadline so even if they they swapped him for TW they would not be able to sign him long term until next off season, which would mean another franchise tag in all likelihood. Would basically be a 1 year rental with a 3rd compensatory pick at the end of it as the likely outcome

With talent already at the position no way.

I still think Trent comes back.
I still think Trent comes back.
Why? It's been stated multiple times it's not about the money. I think he's serious about the medical staff and he doesn't trust the team. Too much smoke with the staff and TW, McCoy, Cravens etc.
I still think Trent comes back.
On the preshows JPFindlay all but said he is gone. Said he should have a story with multiple sources that will give more details about the whole situation.
