All those guys are ahead of Forbes at this point. If the choice is any of those guys or Forbes, Forbes will be cut.
Forbes won't be cut because he's a 2nd year first round corner on a rookie contract. Somebody will give up a late round pick for him. He also didn't look completely horrible last year so it's way too early to give up on him. |
Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
I'm not sure Forbes is in danger of being cut given the lack of depth at the position. As for Daniels he is the reason I will be pumped on opening day. I pray, well I don't actually pray about anything, but my fear he is hurt early and we won't know what we have as we watch our season go down the drain in September. Please do not let this happen football Gods, we deserve this one.
I felt that Forbes would need to significantly bulk up in the off-season to have any chance of starting or even making the team. From the photos I've seen of him at camp he hasn't done so. Also, this new football organization doesn't have any obligation to keep him, so I think they may not. |
Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
Forbes will be just fine. No chance he's cut. Running with the 2s, 3s, 1s...at this point in the offseason it doesn't really matter much.

You are right that Forbes can't cover but in my mind nobody who weighs 165 pounds should have even been considered as a draft pick, much less a first round pick over Christian Gonzales. The problem we have at corner is because RR failed to draft Christian Gonzales when he had the chance. Gonzales is far superior to Forbes, and as I said before the 2023 draft, it was a no brainer to pick Gonzales over any other available player if he fell to us. Gonzales was the perfect pick for us and, incredibly, RR muffed the pick. Also, Quinn likes to play press man coverage most of the time and he prefers "run and hit" type players. Forbes just doesn't fit those criteria and I predict he will be gone from here sooner rather than later. |
Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
Yeah Gonzales would be pretty sweet right now. Rivera was an awful HC and an even worse GM. [emoji2961]

Only RR at this point would care if he was still here because he invested his first round pick in him and want to show he didn't make a bad pick (he did though) |

Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
I'm excited for every season, but normally it's optimism with the truth knowing we will most likely suck again.
This season, there is actually something worth really being excited for. 8 wins or more would be a successful 1st season with a rookie QB and is definitely possible. I think we will at least be a decent team that is competitive most games. Huge upgrade from sucking hard. Excited to see what this offense can look like with Jayden. McLaurin is going for 1300+ this season. |
Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic. It started with new ownership, then new front office, then new coaching staff, and now we potentially have our franchise QB. It's a lot to take in, in about a year's time.
Can't turn the roster over in one year, but there's no reason we can't be a real competitive team this year if JD puts in the work, and the new coaching staff caters to his strengths. |

I’m expecting around .500 with a lot of close wins/losses. I honestly think the defense could be better much quicker. Having good LBs will make a difference. I swear, I will NEVER understand why Ron and Jack did not just pay Bobby Wagner a couple years ago. |

Ron didn't believe in linebacking. Also optimistic, but not like 12 win optimistic. I'm really not sure on Kliff's offense and still a bit concerned about the OT position. JD balls out and it might not matter. We're probably another year away from (and no QB injuries) from "completing" the turnaround to a good overall base of talent across the roster. |

But I get what you're saying, even with that said Ron and co did a poor job at getting even decent LB talent in here. |

We really should take this Forbes debate to the other thread, but to be clear I'm not saying we should keep Forbes because we used a first round pick on him last year. Worst case scenario trade him for a late round draft pick - somebody will take a flyer on him because things like being on a rookie contract with 3+ years left on it are worth something. If Quinn wants to get rid of him I agree, do it now. His value is already low. But no way he just gets cut. |
Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
I don’t see our cb’s being nearly good enough or deep enough to cut Forbes. We are the ones who will keep him because he is on a rookie contract. If he doesn’t improve then continue to add corners next offseason and get rid of him then.

"I don't think I've had a young quarterback that really has come in and within the first week be like, 'Hey, can we get this rep?' or 'Can we get this rep after practice?' It's exciting for me, because that opens the door … There's an open door of communication, and he's not afraid to get that work in. He's humble, but he's confident in his ability. He's played at the highest level. He's played against really good competition, and he knows that he can make all the throws. He's not putting the cart before the horse. He's literally taking this thing day-by-day."

Love what we're hearing so far about the kid and his work ethic, but all that matters is how he plays on the field. For now it's just talk and good sound bites.

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: 'I ain't a star quarterback yet'
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/40336471/aint-star-quarterback-yet ...But from the time Daniels arrived in Washington, he has preached the same message: He just wants to do his job and is not elevating himself to any status other than rookie. He said he's working on "everything." He arrives to the facility daily around 5:45 a.m., watches film and does walk-throughs in the practice bubble with rookie receiver Luke McCaffrey. Daniels has picked the brain of veterans such as linebacker Bobby Wagner. |

Not to beat a literal dead horse, but everything we're hearing about Daniels is exactly what we need to be hearing about Daniels. If the only press we were getting on Daniels involved him setting up his marketing brand before ever playing a down and charging people to attend his draft day party I'd be hella concerned. Thankfully the only stories we're getting are of the "he's doing his best sponge impression and trying to soak up every bit of knowledge he can" which is exactly what he should be doing. |

Everyone knows how amazing of a player he is. The work ethic, humility, and team centric attitude is what I love seeing right now. Really stands out for a player fresh out of college who just won the Heisman. |
Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
what I want from my QB:
don't get hurt/win games so far it sounds like he's putting himself in a good position. None of it matters if he gets hurt or can't win games though. After 24 years of mostly garbage, it'd be nice to have a real answer at QB for the long term. Why not us? |

Lasting 2 years in the SEC with minimal injuries at qb is impressive. His upside is way too high to not have drafted him. @ Tampa will be interesting to see how he plays and how his style translates to NFL. |

Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
They have handled this perfectly in my opinion. No surprise, but also no rush. Glad that is put to bed though. This team is coming together so well in my opinion. I don't know if it will translate to wins in the short term, but you have to be pleased with the direction it's going.

Re: Jayden Daniels - Commanders QB Thread
After halftime, def saw a light come on for JD. More patience in the pocket, looked to push the ball downfield, running was more deliberate and less chaotic.
Both of the defenses JD has faced have brought a lot of pressure…the key thing for breaking the defense is to stand tall and deliver throws to burn them. The first instinct can’t be to run, but to get the ball out quickly for big play |

No TDs this week, but he could very well be the offensive rookie of the week again.
