Apparently, Andre Jones has been a nice surprise lately.

Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
Love what I'm hearing out of the two joint practices with the Ravens, especially how both lines did well. I know when the team has had joint practices with better teams (i.e. the Pats), it was woefully noticeable how our team was underprepared. I hope this translates to the preseason game on Monday, but it was glad to hear what Keim and JP had to say about the team's performance during the practices.
Love this, soon all you Howell doubters will be jumping on the band wagon:
On Tuesday, Howell impressed during the 11-on-11 portion of practice, which is the most important. He kept the Ravens off-balanced by quick and decisive. Washington’s goal in 2023 will be to get the ball into the hands of playmakers such as Terry McLaurin, Jahan Dotson, Antonio Gibson, Curtis Samuel and Dyami Brown, with the occasional deep ball. It was more of the same from Howell on Wednesday. Huge two days for him. Some were looking for him to fail, and he didn’t. Outside of one 11-on-11 period Wednesday, it was more solid work from Howell and the offense. https://www.yahoo.com/sports/takeaways-commanders-ravens-joint-practice-000816390.html
I don't think there are any doubters. I'm glad Sam is getting a shot to start, but we also have to keep expectations in check. |

Maybe not on here, well there are a few, but every talking head out there is a doubter. Me and SF been co Presidents of his fan club since the draft though. There is still nobody in the world who can explain why he went from a sure fire first rounder to the fifth round. All i hear is well his numbers dropped off. Not by that much, and the offense around him was completely poached in the draft going into his final year. There is absolutely no reason he should have gone in the fifth round but im glad he did. |

Me too. We need an oline and a HC too though. I think we are one year away from actually contending. Man where have i heard that before. Let the new owner get involved and let’s actually spend some money this off season- plus one more draft. I too believe we have our quarterback- 2024 is the year. Hopefully this year Sam proves himself, Chase rebounds and we are very competitive. |

Strengths: QB WR's RB's (love Rodriguez, he'll surprise) DL/DE Secondary (CB's and Safeties) P Weakness: OL (will be much better than last year, just inexperienced) LB Davis, Barton Hudson are solid, after that no depth K don't trust Slye |

Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
Not Badgley, he hasn't got the leg for it, can barely make a 50 yarder and cant even hit touchbacks consistently. Because of that I dont think it was a real competition, would rather they had brought in a younger guy with a stronger leg to genuinely push Slye
|
2023 Commies training camp thread
Was 33/33 for extra points and 2 of 3 from 50 plus on fg’s. Also a better overall percentage on fg’s than Slye.
He missed four games or he would have been way above Slye in kicker rankings. I can’t take another season of praying for extra points. |

Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
Howell has been officially named as QB1 - shocker..
I'm a fan of Howell and I even wanted this team to draft Howell in the 1st round (good thing I'm not a GM), but I'm with skinsfan - we need to see how Howell plays throughout the season before we can say he is legit QB. |

I felt that Sam should have played earlier last year and Ron should have never signed Wentz. We would have been fine w/ Heinicke, Sam and another vet. But this is basically his first year playing. He is going to have some rough patches. |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
Happy to see Howell named the starter! Really excited to see what he can bring to the table. His numbers regressed some his final year of college leading to him being a later rd pick other than the projected 1st. His last year at UNC saw him lose Brown and a lot of his oline. Kid has talent. He ran for 828 yds his last year at UNC. Clearly he has wheels too. He will do great if the oline does their job.

The Commanders are releasing K Michael Badgley, source confirms. Joey Slye last kicker standing. |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
Joey Slye and Troy Apke are cockroaches. You just can't get rid of them.

I can't believe Apke is still around. That is shocking. |
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
Difficult to believe that Apke will make the roster, I think everyone would be stunned if he did. Badgley was never genuine competition for Slye, never had the leg for kickoffs. Slye is infutriating because it seems he has trouble focusing on getting in the "zone" for consistent results, they should have brought in a more genuine challenger who could at least be on the practice squad to keep Slye focused during the season.

Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
Id rather have a guy who hits every extra point and more of his fg’s than someone who boots it out of the endzone on kickoffs. Let them catch the ball and try and run it back and get smashed at the 15 or 20 yard line. Slye still being the kicker is an absolute failure by Ron and Co. Again.

Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
Sorry but Slye wasn't going to get beat out by Badgley. Field position all day over a couple of missed PATs.

Anyone know if Way is hurt? I just noticed that we signed a punter - Michael Palardy... I don't see any news about Way being injured so this signing is a little bit odd.

Well more than a couple, and Badgley was more consistent with fg’s. I hear you with field position but how many guys run it out of the endzone and even make it to the 25? Either way I just cannot believe there is not a kicker in the entire world who isn’t better than Joey effin Slye. |
2023 Commies training camp thread
Free Agency was basically a nothing burger because of Snyder this year. If what I am seeing online is true we have the fourth most projected cap space for 2024? Between that, one more draft, new owner, energized fan base, and seemingly having a quarterback for the future I am as excited about this team moving forward as I’ve been in a looooong time.

Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
Supposed to be a good draft for OT next year
|
Re: 2023 Commies training camp thread
The Saints have 2 good kickers, one will be cut or traded (most likely) a 6th rounder would do it.

If McLaurin isn't ready to go Week 1, let him rest. We've mostly been pretty fortunate with offseason injuries. We should be able to beat the Cardinals without McLaurin. Definitely not worth making him miss more time.
