Funny how fussy people are considering how QB starved this team has been for the last 30 years. Jackson - nah. Rodgers - nope. Carr - no way. Howell with one game under his belt - sign me up!
Pretty amazing stuff. It's going to be another long offseason.
Rodgers, Lamar, or Carr would be massive upgrades over anything we have. Both Rodgers and Lamar would have massive offensive weapons improvements over anything they've had in their respective teams. I would give Carr the benefit of the doubt, given the coaching staff he's had to deal with. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
There are costs to everything, including sitting on our hands while this defense that is built to win now goes to waste.
All I'm saying is I'd rather go with a high risk/high reward move vs hoping a 5th round rookie pans out. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Wed be lucky as hell to get Carr for our 2R.
Doubt he comes here w his no trade clause vs other destinations I just want a functional legit NFL QB while we still have Terry in his prime. |

Lamar Jackson - Yes he was hurt this yr but the ravens have never given him any legit WRs, well we have those guys plus if Greg Roman comes it would be the best fit. 2. Justin Fields - He was a great passer in college so I know he has it in him, he's also a freak athlete that would be great to mix in with Brob and AG. 3. Derek Carr - He is a Tier 3 QB, pretty much a Dak , KC type QB. He will have a great game and the next 2 will be Avg at best. I just don't see that guy as a true winner and he's over 30 now. * I didn't put AR12 on here because I don't see him coming to DC * |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
The draft experts are all goo-goo ga-ga over Bryce Young 6’ 194 LBs. Sam Howell 6’1” 220lbs is just as talented, fuck trading for any of these clowns in particular Rodgers and Carr. Roll with Sam all the way, he has it and these idiot coaches did not give him enough game time. Don’t want to mortgage our salary cap on washed up QB’s, sign players like Payne, Curl, Holcomb, draft 3 OL, CB, LB and call it a day.

Bryce Young has been talked about since HS that's why. He's a magician in the pocket similar to Burrow and he's very accurate. |

I think he's good too and hope they build around him but I also know Ron is going to be in win now mode so I bet he gets another QB |

Give me this 2023 QB room:
Sam Howell and Jacoby Brissett and 1 of these possible mid-round guys: Hendon Hooker/Jaren Hall/Dorian Thompson-Robinson/Clayton Tune/Tanner McKee/Aidan O'Connell/Jake Haener |

Ron is a fucking idiot, how many draft picks is he going to give away to get the same result he did with Smith and Wentz. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I wouldn't mind another vet QB but I don't want to give up another draft haul for him. That's why I'm comfortable bringing in another vet in FA to compete with Howell. Next year is a wasted year anyways with a lame duck HC and a probable new owner.

It would give them the opportunity to get something done with Payne and Curl, and revamp the offensive line, LB corps, and secondary via free agency and the draft. If not, and they must go after one of the higher tier QBs, please don't mortgage the future for 40 year old AR. Wait for D Carr to be released and get a deal done with him. |

It’s time to extend Curl…making lil money and crucial to defense. Just get it done

I put other. My preferred options is to see if a QB with a first or second round grade is available when we pick. Maybe a minor move up like the Ravens did for Lamar.

So if the Raiders do find a trade partner for Carr, not only would the quarterback have to agree to the destination, the Raiders would also have to trust that the other team would not back out. So while Carr might find a robust market for his services, his trade value to the Raiders might not be as high as it once was. Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
These QBs all average $40 million or more per year. Goff is right behind them at $35 million. Derek Carr will definitely get $40 million per year on the open market.
Aaron Rodgers Russell Wilson Kyler Murray Deshaun Watson Patrick Mahomes Josh Allen Matt Stafford Dak Prescott Kirk Cousins |

Aaron Rodgers - Earned Russell Wilson - Worst trade/contract in NFL history if this season is his new play Kyler Murray - Not worth it Deshaun Watson - TBD. Prior to getting Tuddy's all over Houston, he would have been worth it Patrick Mahomes - Can't pay him enough Josh Allen - Can't pay him enough Matt Stafford - I'd take it due to getting a Super Bowl Dak Prescott - Not worth it Kirk Cousins - Not worth it |

That's the going rate for a top 10 QB. You can opine that it's not worth it, but that's the rate.

More reason to not go after any of them. I can guarantee that Howell will be much better than Carr. I just have that gut feeling about Howell. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Carr .. sign me up (Id be giddy)
Trade up for one of the 4 highly ranked QBs ... sign me up (Id be giddy) Sign a Brissett and Howell ... sign me up (meh ... maybe next year we will try and solve the QB problem in a QB league ..) |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
He's not a Top 10 QB though.
If you are grading him based on this year, I would agree. However, if you throw out this year, the year J McDaniel inserted himself, he's definitely a top 10 QB. This was a down year for him I guess: 3522 yards passing, a 60.8% completion percentage, with 24 TDs, and 14 INTs The previous five years he averaged over 4100 yards passing, 67.5% completion percentage, 22 TD, and 11 INT Anyway, top 15 QBs make about $35 million/avg. Everyone wants a top QB, but no one wants to pay for one. That said, I would rather roll with Howell and pick up a cheaper FA QB...but if they are hell bent on going after a top QB, if D Carr makes it to free agency, in my opinion he's the best option because it doesn't require giving up players or picks...assuming you can get a deal done. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
We've signed Fromm to a futures contract this week, which right now (assuming TH weeks and CW is cut) makes him our #2 QB. I'm not convinced he's anything more than an emergency back up, but I'm disinclined to pick a QB in the draft unless he's BPA and we're not drafting them at the cost of a pressing need. We're not likely to be able to pick up a top guy at 16, so we'd be trading up (with what?) or reaching as it stands.
I wouldn't trade for Carr, not least because we'd be throwing draft capital away again, but if he makes it to FA I'd be interested. Otherwise I'm picking up a capable FA and starting out with SH pencilled in as #1. Must draft OL, CB AND LB. I rank QB at least 4th importance given the above, if not lower. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I voted other... Stick w/ SH but bring in a vet or drafted player to compete w/ him. Bring back TH for insurance.
It really doesn't matter. W/ Ron running things we're stuck at 7-8 wins tops. He wants a 2-1 run pass ratio. That is comical. If Jay Gruden was coaching this team, or running the offense, we'd be playing this week. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
When the new ownership comes in, if I were them, my first call would be to Ozzie Newsome. How much do you want? I'm giving him 5 years, I'm giving him full control and I'm not taking no for an answer.
