obada had 3.5 sacks last year and 5.5 the year before, both with playing ~35% of snaps. bunch of hurries etc too, good signing and it's good he could sub multiple positions.
last year he had a 1.48m 1 year deal w/ the bills, haven't seen any reports on his deal w/ washington yet. |

Important part of the equation, when you sign your own guys back they don't count against you in the compensatory pick formula. That's the biggest argument against spending a lot at MLB, making sure we don't cancel out the 3rd round pick we have coming our way for Scherff. |

Shows how important the position and depth are. Glad he is back, one of the better swing tackles in the league. He will very likely end up starting several games for us. Although I really hope Cosmi can stay more healthy this year. He was always beat-up last year. |

Re: Commanders free agency thread
The Washington Commanders, in a continued effort to keep their own free agents, re-signed veteran swing tackle Cornelius Lucas on Thursday. The deal, according to a person with knowledge of the matter, is for two years and worth $8.2 million.
“I’m excited. I’m excited to get back to work,” he said. “I’m excited to be back. I’m excited to be wanted back, if that makes sense.” Washington expressed hope of retaining Lucas before the start of free agency, but he tested the open market and said he drew interest from “a few teams.” “I feel like I picked up a good amount of traction,” he said. “More than I had in the past. But everybody was fakin’ and booty shakin’. Washington was the only one to come through.”
Legend. This snippet from the WaPo. |

But for me potentially leaving a gaping hole in the middle of our defense outweighs the value of a 3.5 round pick (compensatory picks should be called that way in my view, they come at the end of the round and before the next one). With so many people yearning for a switch to a 4-3 defense because it would fit our roster better (which may have been overblown but was still a reasonable argument IMO), I'm surprised some seem to be ok-ish with having such a weak LB squad for a 3rd season in a row. |

Turns out that it just appears to be that he is a better fit at WLB. I still think Davis is going to be a stud. And I like Holcomb at SLB. So I think we're gonna be improved at LB next year regardless. Just need to find a MLB. I think we can find that in the draft or post draft cuts. |

Yeah yeah I hear that, that's fair. But to me the need is just too big, if you can sign a proven at a decent price, I say go for it. |

Bostic, Holcomb and a rookie at one of the most difficult positions to learn in the NFL was never going to be enough. I also think Davis can still pan out for us, he showed signs of improvement. But to me we need several additions: 1 proven starter + depth. Holcomb, Davis in his second year, a rookie and a couple of UDFA doesn't do it for me. Again, with so many proven vets out there, maybe some of them will indeed be available post draft and waiting would be the smart thing to do (from what I understand post draft signing doesn't cancel comp picks). Re: Commanders free agency thread
2 ppl still out there I'd welcome is Jarvis Landry and D. Hightower.

Quite a few LBs out there, actually. https://www.fftoday.com/nfl/freeagents.php?o=1&PosID=60 But a lot of these guys have lost a step for sure.

Would love to add Hightower, Landry isn't really a huge need |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
Yeah I think the WR room is already crowded enough. McLaurin, Samuel, Brown, Dotson, Sims.

Re: Commanders free agency thread
we might want to take a look at joe schobert or kwon alexander

Re: Commanders free agency thread
Looks like we will get 3rd and 7th round compensatory picks next year. 3rd round one will be nice because we are out a 2nd or 3rd due to the Wentz trade.

Yeah these 2 are solid options IMO. With Alexander, health is an issue, and that's a reason he could be had on the cheap... But I want security, and though it seems Joe Schobert struggled in Pittsburg, he's turning 29 and is a quality player. Alec Ogletree is intriguing to me. His production has decreased significantly throughout the years, but at 30 you'd think he could still be a contributor. Anyway, many options. We need, at least, one of them. Minus draft pool we should have around 6/7M available. Right or not, they are in win now mode, they will sign somebody. |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
I like AJ Johnson. He's been pretty good for the Broncos, but coming off an injury.

I'm less interested in getting the one with the most pure talent as I am getting one who can help by being a leader on and off the field as well as a mentor to the younger LBs. |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
YES... bring him back as a NOT safety lol ... also on Landry i realize we have WR's and its a crowd i just love him as a player and he help the offense a bit im sure.. my buddy is a browns fan so ive been watching Landry forever.

Landry is a good player overall, good receiver with great heart for football. He plays really tough. He never complained when Browns had issues with throwing ball, unlike OBJ. |
Re: Commanders free agency thread
don,t mind the alex erickson signing actually i like it but i find it hard that we havn,t signed a LB yet or collins
|
Re: Commanders free agency thread
Erickson likely signed for his experience as a returner. As MTK said, the WR room is pretty crowded.
