Re: Should we be drafting Tua???
He hobbled around the field and was still LIGHTS OUT, Kid is a left handed russell wilson, I'd be willing to bet he lasts in the NFL. He's got crazy talent

He has shown zero ability to stay healthy. |

Re: Should we be drafting Tua???
He has shown zero ability to stay healthy.
Without looking it up, I would say he's only missed a few games in his career. Deshaun Watson was an Injury risk as well and now he's a top 10 QB that is reliable. I've always disliked players being faulted due to injury, it's football it happens. Mahomes hurt his knee and ankle and missed games this year, also had shoulder surgery in college, he's the best QB in football now..

Re: Should we be drafting Tua???
Its not faulting by injury, its the frequency and type. Regardless of potential and displayed ability some injuries can and do shorten careers. Regardless of said ability teams and coaches have to take jjnto account the potential availability of a drafted based on historic injuries. Guice dropped down for good reason as proven last 2 years, and maybe the worst is over, but you would never have taken him with a top 25 pick based on his history. So why is Tua special? Because he's a QB? Sorry, its too high a risk for most organisations that have a competent QB already on the roster. Haskins isn't proven either way but he's competent and fit right now. With other needs why risk the whole applecart on Tua?
We do need a backup, hopefully a competent vet, but right now we need a defence that can take the pressure off the O as it develops. CY or trading down and getting Simmons and maybe Okudah makes far more sense than risking it all on Tua. |
Re: Should we be drafting Tua???
Every QB is different. Please explain we moved on from RG3 mainly because he couldn't stay healthy. Now you want to sign Tua. I've followed Tua think he's a great QB but the pros hit harder.

I'm saying if Tua is the clear cut better QB than Dwayne, you consider it. If you don't have a QB, Chase Young doesn't mean jack... Ask Khalil Mack, Von Miller etc. |

It really all depends on everyone's personal opinion of Haskins. All of the haters are acting like his last two games are irrelevant to the overall opinion. Haskins has been in the building since Rivera got here, obviously doing everything he can prove he wants it. There is literally no reason to believe Rivera doesn't like Haskins (if you've studied the NFL long enough to know coaches like to keep their intentions vague in the media for a reason). |

Just from a draft and team building perspective, if you draft 2 qb's in the first round the opportunity cost is huge. If you did draft Tua, and it's a true competition, and Haskins wins - you gave up the opportunity to draft Chase Young, or potential trade value of the #2 spot, which makes the decision even daftier, assume we could get two firsts and a 3rd for the 2nd spot, that is immense draft capital lost, for a qb bust. (again assuming Haskins wins the competition) If you draft Tua, have the competition, and he wins, you still gave up the potential game changer in Chase Young, but also effectively gave up 3 potential first round picks in Haskins plus 2 firsts in any potential trade. Finally, even if RR believes Haskins isn't a franchise qb, the lost value this year in simply giving up on him is huge in the development of the team as a whole unit. Clearly Haskins has made efforts to show he has heard what RR is preaching, and he has acted accordingly. If RR turns around and says thanks but no, without Haskins having had a chance to show very much on the field, what would that do to RR's message of you do what I say, and it doesn't work, I shoulder the blame. It destroys it. Bottomline there is always smoke at this tiem of year, but throwing away a talented qb for the shiny object qb is not going to make this a better team. |

So lets say tonight is draft night, I'm putting you on the spot.. Who do u take? |
Re: Should we be drafting Tua???
I think we should draft Tua, sign Brady and Rivers, and let them all fight it out with Haskins in a steel cage match

Von Miller has a SB trophy and that was in spite of Peyton Manning more so than because of him. I'll give you Khalil but Trubisky sucks and they even went 12-4. |
Re: Should we be drafting Tua???
Apologies if I already posted this, been a crazy busy day at work.
---------------- Chase Young is my strong preference for the no. 2 pick. If we did draft Tua, I could talk myself into liking the pick. The ultimate goal of any franchise is to find a franchise QB and drafting Tua would give us 2 chances at that. I think haskins deserves at least this year to prove what he is but, if I had to label him today, I think he is more of a 10-15 ranked QB vs a top 10. And thats fine, you can chase SBs with a 10-15 rank QB as long as you have a strong complimentary team and game plan. Tua appears to be a higher ceiling QB to me, if healthy. But this discussion re drafting Tua just seems like normal "what if" lets talk hypotheticals off season talk. Young all day |

And ask Ray Lewis if an average QB stopped him winning a SB or 2... |
Re: Should we be drafting Tua???
Looks like a question on what happens if Bengals don't draft Burrows. Maybe they take Young or Tua or trade out. If Young goes #1 then I don't disagree with Skins taking Tua, but hope not Burrows. Simmons is purportedly great but is he a reach at #2? Is a trade down the way? The most fascinating possibilities in the draft in years.

Cincy will absolutely draft Burrows. We will draft Chase Young barring Miami offering us their #5, #18 and #39. Miami will trade with Detroit, not us. If we trade down (extremely remote possibility) we’ll use the #5 pick for Simmons as the second BPA for the defense.. Simmons MIGHT play as a Sean Taylor clone at FS opposite Collins. What if we drafted Tau, traded DH and signed Clowney. |

I don't want Tua. The guy has had 3 surgeries in the last 2 years, one of them being for a serious hip injury. For the life of me I can't understand how people are ignoring that especially given how hard this team has been hit with injuries in recent years and how everyone loves to bitch about drafting players with an injury history. He's had trouble standing up to the rigors of college ball, how is he going to deal with the pros where everyone is bigger and faster? |

Like i said just playing devils advocate. I am fine with a CY pick and being done. |
Re: Should we be drafting Tua???
In Rivera and Smith I trust. They know better than any of us. We have at least 3 good options in front of us - I am confident they will make the best possible decision.

Quick release , mobile , accurate as it get, leader , grit , winner, clutch.. I mean the dude is the real deal, saying yes to this question is not crazy at all. Again if Haskins didn't have the 2 good games at the end of the season, this may not be much of a disagreement. |
Re: Should we be drafting Tua???
Haskins' cap numbers:
2020 $3.3M 2021 $4M 2022 $4.6M #2 overall's ballpark cap numbers: 2020 $6.5M 2021 $8M 2022 $10M 2023 $11M There is no doubt in my mind that we will have our franchise QB, our top-tier, 15 year starter QB - if we draft Tua #2. AZ got a 2nd and a future 5th for Rosen after drafting Murray. We would probably get something spicier for Haskins if we go that route. Or just keep them both, pay your starter and backup less money than a starting QB and build around that bargain over the next several seasons. This pick is a slam dunk whether it's Young or Tua. |
Re: Should we be drafting Tua???
I remember that Haskins made some throws that Scary Terry had to make “circus catches “ .. Haskins big game was more on his support cast than him .. I’m not saying he will never be good but we have to at least consider other options ...
