Bottom Line: IF Tatupu stays healthy he'll be a Top ILB this yr. Don't know him, but I think he wants to prove he still has it. What better division than the NFC East? Hopefully we'll sign both Hayden and Tatupu to a 1-3 yr deal w/ incentives, and they both can help our D this year.

I like Barnes too, but I think he's a better FS than a CB.
Bottom Line: IF Tatupu stays healthy he's a Pro Bowl Caliber LB. Don't know him, but I think he wants to prove he still has talent. Hopefully we'll sign both Hayden and Tatupu to a 1-3 yr deal w/ incentives.
Bottom line is he might be a Pro Bowl linebacker in a 4-3 when healthy. Go ask Rocky McIntosh if playing in a 4-3 is the same as playing in a 3-4.

I do agree with you he probably does want to prove he's still dominant, but that remains to be seen. Especially since he's never played in a 3-4 before. If we bring him in on an incentive deal I wouldn't be upset, but I'd also want to make him earn his starting spot.

I really do think Riley, if given the chance to start, will prove himself this season. But you never know, I'm not a coach, and if a coach decides it wouldn't hurt to bring him in, then he'll be here.

Tatupu is the key to finally beating Seattle in the Playoffs.

Also NYC, I feel like your reverse trolling me but in the off chance that your not joking around, I apologize for not making the sarcasm in my post more clear.

Damnit no, see this is the problem with being the last post in a page. Your crucial apology to prevent any further misunderstandings gets pushed back and in some cases never gets seen by the person your apologizing to. So NYC again in the off chance you weren't kidding around I'm sorry. Bad job on my part of not making sarcasm more clear.
I'll give you that. He was beastly, circa 05-07. 08-present has been spotty though. Because he's had injury problems, and hasn't looked the same on the field. He's still good as a MLB in a 4-3. But we don't even have an idea if he might be good in a 3-4, and if he wants big money, fuggedaboudit.
Yup. In each of the last 3 years his tackle numbers have dropped significantly since his early years in the league.

250 lbs? I say sign me up. I don't get the injury concerns. I mean he's only had one season where he didn't play 15 games.

I'd take Chicago over here if I were him, too. Better overall team, and a scheme that he's used to. And I mean, hey, they just signed Roy Williams, so they're on the cusp of a championship. ;)

"Ballooned up"?....350 to 360.... that's water weight... water weight.
Weight loss and gaining to someone that size is different he can shake that.
This dude craps 10 pounds.

And of course its "late"... we just signed people last week but now its "late".
The lockout made everything "late"
Obviously we won't sign him but if we have OL problems he coulda been POSSIBLY the help we need.

And the Viks line wasn't BAD... maybe not Great but definetly good and good enough

Exactly! You know he isn't going to move and Lofa has played MLB his whole career. He was voted captain his rookie year so he's always kinda been "the guy". I wonder how his ego will cope with that. I would think even though the scheme fit would be better there, his chance of starting on the inside and being able to have more of a leadership role would be enhanced here.

Boy you're really trying to justify signing Mount McKinnie. Dude weighed almost 400 pounds when he showed up for Vikes training camp. I know we like to call linemen fat boys but there's gotta be athleticism involved, and I'm sure McKinnie's got just about as much athleticism as Jabba the Hut. And his work ethic is obviously highly questionable. What kind of player blows off the Pro Bowl to spend time at a strip club?
Disagree. Rabach is almost the perfect NFL backup C because the guy plays through nearly any injury.

Matt Birk is still one of the best centers in the league, so if everything goes right, Rabach will never see the field for them. But if he has to play, it at least means they won't have to reshuffle the entire line to do so.
Well it looks like Rabach will be seeing the field right away. Birk's going to be out for a few weeks

I've heard the gap between Orton and Tebow has been so wide at training camp that Brady Quinn is actually being penciled in as the #2 QB in Denver right now. Still early though

MTK 08-03-2011 11:36 AM

Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency-Part 3

Orton is clearly their best option right now. Tebow needs more time.
ok so in chi i heard they would be shifting lofa to outside line backer
Ok, so take a guy with diminishing production and bad knees and make him switch positions...good luck with that, Bears.

Monkeydad 08-03-2011 11:41 AM

Re: 2011 NFL Free Agency-Part 3

I'm not a huge Tebow fan (as a QB) but I don't think he's the type of player who is going to excel or impress anyone in structured drills. He's more of a player who you just let run around and make plays.

Orton will be the starter but I think the team will be struggling so much that they'll swap him out for Tebow before year's end and he'll stay there for the remainder of the year and possibly going into next year. They gave a 1st-round pick for him and he needs to eventually be thrown into the fire to see if he's worth hanging onto.

Orton is clearly better, but for the sake of the future of the franchise, they need to make a decision on Tebow and either move on with him, or without him. I think they tried to do this, but couldn't get what they wanted for Orton.

Orton could still be traded. Who knows, if Beck struggles too much or is hurt...maybe we'll try to get him, but I think we'd just hand it over to Grossman and I'd be OK with that for a year. We need a longer-term solution if Beck is not the man though.

I don't care enough to really TRY.
I know.. and you know we won't sign him. Like I originally said its out of the question.
But if we have protection issues this year you and I know "mount mckinnie" was out there.. and he coulda played guard.
No justfication needed. One mans opinion.. he's a good run blocker.

He's not a ****ing fit here. The ZBS prefers athletic guys, no matter how big they are(size IS a plus if it isn't fat or "water"), but WHEN TRAINED MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS are telling him he's overweight and he's got too much cholesterol, then you know that he's been downing the bacon and burgers like there's no tommorrow. Not only that, the ZBS is about "passing" the guy off so that there's a crease.
