Ok....please excuse my ignorance. So looks like no deal is getting done. Now what?? They just continue to fight it out after the deadline until they finally come to an agreement. ? Is there more chance of a shorten season than no season at all?
Help....... I really cant live without football.

Best case scenario today is they agree to extend current cba for a few months, but they won't. Nflpa will dissolve as a union immediately and sue the owners for unfair bargaining. This will go in front of federal court.

It could be done by september with a shorter season, but it is a bit unclear at this point.

Thanks for your help. Yeah, looks bleak for an extension of the current CBA. Alright.... i guess we just wait. :(

Its the owners at this point i think. The owners make it easy to place blame on one side now at this point....Let them sit out then. Let's see how long their money lasts when there is NO REVENUE coming in.

They wouldn't sue immediately would they? I know decertifying gives them that option, but I was under the impression that it's a card they would play if the owners try to push forward w/out a deal.

Im miffed with the sport so extremely strong in a down economy where revenues are just astronomical they cant come to an agreement. Sometimes I dont think Goodell, the owners and the players realize that got things so good when alot of people are struggling so bad. They really need to tighten up, its ridiculous.
Youve got owners, most of whom are worth close to $1 billion. Youve got players who are making millions are dollars. My working assumption at a time when people are having to cut back, compromise and worry about making the mortgage and paying for their kids college education is that the two parties should be able to work it out without the President of the United States intervening, President Obama said.

Im a big football fan, but I also think for an industry that is making $9 billion a year in revenue, they can figure out how to divide it up in a sensible way and be true to their fans who are the ones who, obviously, allow for all of the money that they are making, the President continued. My expectation and hope is that they will resolve it without me intervening, because it turns out I have got a lot of other stuff to do.
Read it, pretty useless though.

Still more on the owners side, (basically they took a bad deal rather than fight it tooth and nail in 2006, and I give them a few small kudos on that). Of course in the end, it's more "not the players side"(this batch of players has made oodles more than Clark, Monk, Green ever could have imagined. They could back off a step and still be handsomely paid for their gifts and talents) then pro-owners. They both need to stop and get a deal done, and clearly neither side is doing that today.

Peter King tweeted earlier that nothing happens with FA until a new CBA is signed. So unless a deal is reached (which obviously isn't happening today) FA is still off.

I believe that there is one exception to this: if the union decertifies, then the owners may unilaterally impose their own terms of employment, terms which could include free agency. Of course, even in this case, there may be no free agency because the owners may not allow it in their ad hoc rules or the owners may respond to decertification with a lockout. And even if the owners allow free agency, the players may refuse to sign out of solidarity with the inevitable lawsuits from players. So free agency in this scenario is unlikely but it could happen.

I will not be accepting bets on the CBA talks. Current spread is deemed no CBA by 1 month.

I think this extension is a good sign. If nothing else, it's a first definitive step that both sides took in unison. If tomorrow gave us a week extension, I would be more hopeful than I have been in a while. That lets them sit down, and seriously move forward.

From the way i've read it, they just cant keep setting temporary extensions.

Most that i've read says that if they do not reach a new CBA tomorrow, then they will lockout. They just can't keep making an extension....

They better not if they know what's good for 'em. I know I personally will try my best to not buy anything that supports NFL revenues if they screw us over for a year with no football.

Just like the Constitution says "We the People" signaling that the people have the power, so do the fans of football. Without our purchases of NFL tickets, apparel, etc these NFL owners wouldn't have the power and money that they do today. At least not money from NFL revenues.
Adam Carriker always planned for the possibility that something could go wrong, so a potential NFL lockout wouldn't throw him off-course financially.

Shortly after signing a five-year contract as the No. 13 overall pick in the 2007 National Football League draft, the former Nebraska defensive lineman started investing and saving rather than flashing his cash.

It went against the grain in a league loaded with big spenders, he found out, but Carriker didn't mind.

I'll be honest, I've gotten a little bit of guff from players, because I don't buy the most expensive clothes, Carriker said Wednesday. We have nice vehicles, but they're not ridiculous. I don't spend much on anything.
I wouldn't be surprised if a lockout does occur. THe NFL is doomed regardless if there is another crash on the horizon. Folks are not going to be able to buy zilch in terms of tickets or merchandise then. The owners know this so I would not be surprised if they will cut the season in 2011, then the next crash occurs and the players will have to receive one hell of a paycut afterwards in 2012. The Dow might be going up, and even with unemployment going down it is since more folks are taking crap jobs ir just quit looking for work altogether. Don't be altogether surprised either if a CBA is done, but with the owners "winning".
