Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
I wouldn't be surprised if we, along with some other teams, use this year to select a QB and then again next year. A lot of scouts/execs feel this could be a year to get a guy who can be your solid long-term #2/potential starter and next year there are more franchise QB options. With the 18 game season potentially on the horizon, teams are feeling more and more pressure to have 2 QBs.
Not having free agency before the draft complicates things because guys like OG Davin Joseph, LB LaMarr Woodley and RB (who I have not yet been able to identify) I know are high on our radar, but if we can't get them before the draft it changes our thinking. I'm not convinced that we're seriously interested in Newton or Locker or any other QB at 10. Not right now at least. But we'll show it because likely one of them will be there when we pick and we'd like to move down or out of the 1st and pick up extra 2nd,3rd, and/or 4th round picks where guys like Stanzi or Ponder are on our radar.
Interesting point (sorry to channel Sportscurmedgeon!). Of course that qb in the 2nd, 3rd,etc. could be the guy. So the FAs you mention above ARE rumored to be on our radar? Sounds about right, I was just hoping that no fa rb's were considered. If one is signed, likely signals CP's departure. And Stanzi & Ponder definitely on our radar? |

Problem is well, first of all this whole CBA mess; and secondly the Bucs and Steelers won't let them go easily. I don't know who this RB is, just heard that they had their eye on one. Then again, I heard they were going to make a big push for Sproles last year and that didn't happen (but I was right about Peppers!). I don't know how serious we are about Stanzi, but I know we've heavily scouted and spoken to Ponder this season...but then again, part of that could have been "covert' scouting on his teammate Rodney Hudson. Similar to a couple of years ago when we there was all this buzz about showing interest in Russell when really it was his teammate Landry (Russell incidentally has been working out with an undisclosed AFC East team and expects to sign a contract with them soon. He expects to, not sure if the team does. My guess is it's the Dolphins as the Bills seem to want to go the draft route-Andy Dalton round 2?) Also, Skins spoke with your boy Carmichael and some OT. Can't recall who. Guy from Pittsburgh I think. |

Seems like Rex Ryan would be open to using him in the wildcat the way they have w/Smith. Then again, the wildcat is so 2008! |
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
Well we can't take a QB who's biggest flaw is accuracy at #10.
I mean come on. Accuracy? I say trade back and draft another Tackle. |
Von Miller is a pass rushing stud who I've been talking about since the NCAA season ended. Since his stock is rising quickly, he'll most likely be gone which leaves us with Robert Quinn or Ryan Kerrigan who's more of a natural 4-3 DE. Anyone else would be a big reach.
love the thought of him too, but yeah, does he last til #10? Texas A&M’s Von Miller creates Senior Bowl stir | ProFootballTalk |

True which is still so hard to believe. Bills took Maybin instead thank god. |
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
What the heck happened to Maybin? We haven't heard anything about him since he was drafted.
|
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
Just think if we lost that meaningless Jags game we would be picking 6th....... Miller would probably be avail at that pick :/............ but i never root to lose so whatever.
Yeah but Orakpo lasting til #13 didn't seem likely either
I would go as far to say that Von Miller is a better collegiate football player than Orakpo. Orakpo was lazy in college, and unfortunately it translated to the pros. If only that guy gave 90% he'd be getting 15 sacks a year. |
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
Rak is lazy?
News to me. |
Rak is lazy?

He's a great player, in fact our best player.. but lazy.
First I've ever heard of someone calling him lazy. One of his best attributes to me is his motor. If he takes plays off, I've never seen it and I'm usually watching him on D. I can't speak for what he did in college, but if he's lazy in the pros, I'm just not seeing it, nor have I heard anyone but you mention it. Got any examples to back this claim up? Clips, highlights, etc? |
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
Yeah but Orakpo lasting til #13 didn't seem likely either
It will take another strong effort from other teams drafting badly to leave Von Miller at #10. Case in point, Al Davis drafts Darius Heyward-Bey at #7 overall. I literally almost shit myself when I saw that on draft day. That is the big reason that Orakpo was left when our pick came up. |

He's a great player, in fact our best player.. but lazy.
So lazy, in fact, that ESPN festured his now infamous weight-lifting routine at UT. You know, the routine that involves free-weights and over-sized chains. In fact alot of the pre-raft talk was about how he is a gym rat. Sounds lazy to me. The loafer! |

I can't really show you anything considering I would only be able to find highlights, but take note next time.. |

I guess an 80% Rak was that much better than everyone else in the Big 12 that year. I'm sure Mayock had credible reports from somewhere, but I haven't seen it since he's been here. Does the Rak look a bit lost in space/coverage, yes at times. But keep in mind he's a true RDE and plays much better with his hand in the dirt. If we had stayed in the 4-3 and put him at RDE, he probably would have 12 - 18 sacks per yr., every year....but that's water under the bridge. |

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
I would have loved to see Orakpo with his hand on the ground for a full season. I really don't care for him as a LB!
|
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
I don't know how anyone can call 98 lazy even "experts".. I DID watch him play at texas and when he played OU and he kicked TWs ass all day long

Was Trent on our radar this time last year because all I remember is OKUNGGG!!!!!!!!!!
|
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
Just think if we had held onto J. Taylor at end opposite Rak in a 43. I've never watched him live, but I can't imagine opposing OC's game planning and shifting protection to his side if they know he's a lazy player. C'mon

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
Last I heard of Maybin he was soooo good the Bills were putting him on the inactive list, even though he was completely healthy. We're really lucky the Bills had a stroke of genius and took Maybin instead of Orakpo. If we get Von Miller I'd be perfectly happy with that. And remember Orakpo's stock was rising throughout the '09 offseason and he still fell to us at #13.

I can't see Miller falling below #5. He's an outstanding player and supposedly an even better person. |

I don't think many people thought Orakpo was going to slip to #13 either. As many people have said, a lot can happen between now and April. I just hope things work out to where teams needs are higher for other positions than LB and he can fall to us. How crucial was that Jacksonville game now?!? |

I thought so, but you're right a lot can change. A month ago I thought Miller was our guy. Now, I dont. Much of that has to do with Luck out |

Truuuuue, but anything can happen. I thought Orakpo would go to KC at #3 in '09, but they took Tyson Jackson. I thought there was no way in hell the Bills would pass him up at #11, but they went for Maybin instead. I mean who knows, if Millers' stock solidifies in the top 5 he might not fall to the 10th spot, but there are 9 teams ahead of us that just might decide they have 9 other spots more important than OLB, and that's all it takes. |
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
Anybody read this article about The Rule of 26-27-60? Now I'm not sure of the success percentage rate of qb's that do meet the standards of this rule, but that's got to be encouraging for fans of Dalton and McElroy, who I haven't heard barely anything about in the so far limited pre-draft hype. Now looking at the stats there are successfull quarterbacks in the NFL that didn't pass this rule, Favre, Rodgers and McNabb amongst them, but there are a lot of first round draft pick quarterback busts who were drafted high but failed this rule. From this year's class the guys who passed were Ponder, Dalton, McElroy, and Gabbert.

Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
Maybe you were confusing the "being strangled by offensive tackles" with being lazy. I think he was suffering from oxygen deprivation, not laziness lol...
Now in hind sight, would you be happier now with Rak, or with Clay Matthews Jr? |
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
He's not lazy at all. he's been held as terpfan said. And he only has one move. the speed rush coming around low on tackles. He was bulkier in college, he admits that. said he had to lighten the weightlifting a bit to increase endurance and less wear and tear for the longer season. So he is staying healthy, but he's slightly less effective, plus playing against better talent. He needs another move, more strength. and someone from the other side to compliment.
|
Re: 2011 Senior Bowl Week
After putting up with McNabb for 3/4 of a year, if we take Newton, it's going to be really hard to support this team. As I've said in a previous post, when a large portion of the fanbase can see a train wreck coming, but the FO still makes the move, then has it blow up in their face, they have to take the hit. I see Newton being this years Rodgers/Quinn. Bottom 3rd of the 1st rd wouldn't be a surprise with all of his flags. Taking him at 10 is a reach.
