Win the last game and we secure 1st.

Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
philly blew it in Buffalo so the Caps take the East! After last year you have to believe they'll be ready for anything this time around.

Edit: ESPN messed up their standings. Philly gets the tiebreaker over Pitt and both teams are likely to end the season with 106 points. So with that said Philly ends up with the number 2 seed. 1st round will be either Carolina or New York. If New York looses tomorrow then they're out. 2nd Round will likely be the winner of Pitt/Tampa. Unless Montreal pulls another 1st round upset over Boston or Buffalo upsets Pittsburgh in which case we'll face Buffalo or Montreal. If both Buffalo and Montreal pull off the upsets we play Buffalo. Montreal certainly has a chance of upsetting Boston to as they lead the regular season series 4-2. So if anything Montreal might be the most likely 2nd round opponent. 3rd Round Obviously whoevers left standing. This is the only round the Caps can possibly play Boston or Philly. If Boston or Philly is upset then we would play the winner of Tampa/Pitt and Boston/Philly. If seeds were a good indication it would likely be Carolina/New York, Pitt, Philly, then Vancouver in the finals. But as we know from last year nothing is guaranteed. Flyers really blew it though. 5 straight losses and counting to end the regular season. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
It's the Rangers.

Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
Anyone hear Wise on 106.7 the fan yesterday. Pretty much asked Boudreau about his job security...
Pretty shitty timing if you ask me. I understand that there is a journalistic responsibility to ask the tough question, but on the eve of Game 1...perhaps not quite appropriate. Plus, I think it was pretty obvious what the answer was going to be, and not necessarily relevant from a sportswriters perspective. That being said, LETS GO CAPS! |

We we, we so excited.

I've had a major knot in my stomach all day. It's been a LONG wait for this game and I can hardly wait for the puck to drop!!!!

I'm worried I'm going to have to watch the game online. VS already dropped the ball by deciding to air the Phoenix/Detroit game. OH WOW WESTERN HOCKEY SO MCUHHHHH BETTAR!!!!!! HAR HAR HAR>!>!> EAST COAZT BIAZZEIES. Our NHL Center Ice package claims that they'll be broadcasting the game but on more then one occasion they've blacked it out because the CSN Washington Channel is carrying it. Of course it's restricted to us nor can we get it. So many of the biggest games this past year to have been blacked out because of that stupid channel that we're not allowed to purchase. Long story short, if this game is blacked out because CSN Washington is carrying the game, well lets just say that heads will roll. I've grown to accustomed to regular TV quality to go back to crappy streams. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
I'm stoked for this game. Not having Callahan will hurt the Rangers. They're saying 3 more weeks for Wideman. Bummer.
Let's go Caps! |

Hooray! CSN Broadcast via Center Ice! I know~

Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
Huge win. Losing game 1 at home vs the 8 seed would have been really bad. Great game for Neuvy.
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
Huge, huge win...but c'mon Caps, I don't need this much excitement in round 1!
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
That's a game they lose the last two playoffs. The new style is so much more suited to the playoffs. Hopefully they can keep that type of defense the norm.

One step at a time. This is a Rangers team that came in with a goalie that posted 11 shutouts and destroyed the Caps 15-1 over the course of their last 3 meetings. They also needed to learn that they're capable of beating the proverbial "hot goalie." Nuevy is a keeper. If he continues to play this way then Varly is as good as gone as the team will opt to keep Nuevy and Holtby. |

Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
Garbage team. They're going to choke like always...maybe not in the first round but in the subsequent rounds for sure.

Did you not see how hard they played last night? The blocked shots, the hits, the dirty goals, the forecheck. On top of that they finally were able to stay the course and play good enough defense to overcome a hot goalie. Unlike last year where Halack was stopping 52 shots while the Canadians were up by 3. I couldn't have been more proud of how they played last night. In fact I'm starting to enjoy these dirty 2-1, 1-0 wins more then the 5-4 shootouts from last year that they lost 2-1 to the Habs in last years first round exit. All they need to run away with this series is to capitalize on those shots from last night that went off the post, but luckily for them the new defense first philosophy will help them win these low scoring games.
No more one step at a time. They need to make it at least to the conference finals or it's another wasted season in my opinion

Since the inception of the NHL's Winter Classic outdoor game starting during the 2007-2008 NHL Season, the away team in each instance has gone on to the Stanley Cup Finals (Hooray!) only to lose that series (F**k).
Another good sign for the Caps is the fact that not only did they finally start the playoffs with the right goalie, but Nuevy has never lost a North American Playoff series. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
On a seperate note Montreal is poised for another first round upset. As I type this they're leading 1-0 against a team that they beat in the regular season series 4-2.

Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
So I called in to the Sports Reporters today with Czaban and Andy Pollin. Pollin is Jewish was talking about his schpilkas (yiddish for anxiety) meter, and whether or not Caps fans are nervous.
Scroll to minute 18:00 on the dot and you can hear my call in (at first they called me Wayne, but then got it right with Greg): ESPN 980 Audio Vault - Play Now |

Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
I just vomited on my couch.
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
Boudreau basically wallpapered Madison Square Garden with bulletin board material and now the Caps can't back any of it up. Damn shame...

Why Boudreau would talk all that smack right before this game is beyond me. So so stupid. It's like he's outcoaching himself. Tinkering with all the lines looking for the perfect matchups... And all the penalties and sloppy passes and line changes... Just terrible. My schpilkas meter is ringing off the chart. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
Let's f**king go!!! 2 quick ones to start the 3rd...
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
They sure insist on making it exciting don't they? Just once, I'd like the Caps to coast boringly (is that a word) through a 1 vs. 8 series
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
And as soon as we tie it we give them ANOTHER power play opportunity.
|
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
I just vomited again. But this was the good kind.

what an effing comeback
gotta give it to the Rangers for blowing that last play |

Lol, no talk of choking tonight? Seriously who gave up during the second intermission.
Lol, no talk of choking tonight? Seriously who gave up during the second intermission.
I'll be the first to admit it. After the back-to-back goals to make it 0-3 I watched an episode of Mad Men OnDemand. I had ESPN up on my computer so I was keeping an eye on the score, then went back to the game after Semin scored.
I'm not proud of myself. |

Oh well, thanks I guess!! :food-smil
No shame in it. I mean people talk all the time about being true fans and all but the fact of the matter is following sports is emotionally draining unless you're a Lakers fan. I thought about turning it off but to be honest I just wanted to at least see how they started the third and suddenly they scored once, then 50 seconds later, then Captain America with the assist on the GTG. OT was pretty tough. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
Well I only got to catch the good part of the game. Turned it on right after Semin scored and watched the rest of the coronary inducing content. As far as I am concerned we dominated! Haha
NY looked dog-ass tired out there towards the end. The Caps just play so deep and they won on youth and legs tonight in the end. Neuvy went from goat to hero too. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
Playoff hockey feels like one long game-winning drive. So stressful.

I know I saw it and remember people talking about Semin choking this, Arnott isn't a leader, OV chokes, BB is fat, soft team, no heart, GMGM's an idiot, you know a normal Caps game. However I can't remember for the life of me what happened on that Semin goal. |
Re: Washington Capitals 2010-2011 ongoing thread
Wow...what a comeback. I'm kicking myself for tuning out after the 2nd period.
