Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
scary thought: mike sellers leading the way for TJ duckett. i wouldn't look forward to taking on that if i were on defense
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
this is true, we can keep portis around longer if we spread the workload a little more, less hits, more years for portis, and more red zone touchdowns :)
|
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
not just that, late in the game when the defense has their hands on their hips, and sucking wind after chasing portis for 3 quarters, then they have big TJ to deal with. this is gonna be fun to watch.
Good Point, didn't think about that. Also watching the TJ highlight video he could bust a 3rd and short for a 20 yd. gain. I think we made a great trade here. Just another piece of the Superbowl puzzle. Now if we can figure out some corner depth. |

We got great value for NEXT YEAR's #3 pick. NEWSFLASH: That pick will not be on the field THIS YEAR. There is a window of opportunity THIS YEAR. What we got in return was someone who can be a real goal line back -- something that we have been missing (and has cost us games). Duckett does ease the stress of when CP will be back, but here is the part I'm really looking forward to: Seeing what happens when Al Saunder's puts CP & TJ in the backfield at the same time. The way AS uses the FB position, this would create some amazing opportunities for mismatches that will result in points.
Great points. The future is now, that's all you can be concerned about in today's NFL. |

there is a very interesting quote from gibbs in this article from redskins.com
"Right now there have probably been 8-10 phone calls in here from different teams that want some of our players".
Now i know not all of those calls were for Betts' availability. Maybe some were for Patten. Could anyone else be on the trading block? |

Teams have real needs for RB, most teams on the other hand aren't begging for #3 WRs. |

What I dont understand is why would we give a higher draft pick if we had a worse record? |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
One last point for me to make, which is pure speculation, in aquiring TJ and sending Lellee to Atlanta, haven't we in some way hurt the Eagles who were interested in both players. Just a thought.......

Think of it as a bet between the two teams. If they finish better, they get better picks. It wouldn't make much sense the other way around. It's just one of those conditionals to make a trade work. |

Good point. The Eagles haven't done much to address their needs at WR or RB. Two premium players just went off the market. |

GREAT THINKING. You're right. The Eagles are hopeless for 2006. Westbrook is hurt, so is Buckhalter, Moats isn't the answer and they have no RB depth, so they're looking at a fragile and old Stephen Davis. WRs for McNabb to throw to since they can't run the ball are a 2nd-year #1 WR in Reggie Brown, Pinkston and Hank Baskett. :) |

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
Reports say that the Skins weren't even interested in Davis. His agent contacted the team and the Skins basically said no thanks.
I think Davis is done myself. I think people were thinking with their hearts and not their minds if they seriously wanted him back. |

Not everyone was saying Davis could contribute and had years left. I can't recall what Buster's opinion has been but I wouldn't just automatically lump his opinion in with those that said Davis had something left to give and assume he changed his opinion. |

Great, I have Clinton Portis in my Fantasy League and I've just lost at least 5-6 TDs from him this year!

I never said that... and there has to be a reason the Panthers released him. HURT, INJURY PRONE, and OLD when was the last time Stephen finished a season. I think it was when he broke the old Redskins rushing record (1999). Anyway we are much better off now. |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
You know, maybe it's just because I'm watching the highlight films, but when I watch this guy I get three impressions:
1. A bruising back with a ton of power. 2. DECEPTIVE quickness and speed. Guys this big aren't supposed to run that fast. 3. Great vision and patience in hitting the holes. Seriously, for those of you questioning this move, watch this guy play a little and tell me he's not the prototypical Gibbs RB. |

That's right, I was one of the ones supporting giving Davis a look.......and for the record, I love the TJ move. Next year's 3rd rounder? Who cares? Chances are slim that you'd find a 3rd rounder next year with the ability of TJ.....and even then how does that help us THIS year? Trading 1st rounders in the worst case scenario? So what? I don't see Denver and the Skins finishing up all that far apart anyway. You're talking about maybe moving 5 or 6 positions. |

How can anybody be upset about getting one of the premier goaline backs in the NFL? And a more than serviceable backup if (God Forbid) Portis were to go down. In this offense, too many good RBs is not a problem I mind having. |
Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
There appear's to be serenois yet to unfold in this trade that remain highly speculative. The fact remains the incoming player is the most important, and the ONLY way we'll be able to determine whether the trade is good, bad or indifferent is whether we reach a deal with Duckett that will assure his presence here to justify a trade at all. There's no way I can beleive there's not some ongoing discussion in this regard as we speak, otherwise none of this will make any sense at all. When this trade has been announced as official, that's the only thing I want to see; what type deal Duckett gets with the Redskins, everything else is speculative. We all know that trading for a player, giving up draft choices to be here until the bidding war begins does not make a lot of sense.

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
i agree, the redskins have not yet released a report that says we have him, atleast not one that i have seen. could it be because we are waiting to wrap him up long term?

I just checked the team site and the trade is awaiting the passing of physicals.

everytime i think of it i smile. Sellers and Duckett. What the f...? I say the league brings out a new rule for this dominance and lets both of them wear their number 45.
Seriously i wonder what number duckett will take on. Big mike is not changing his number. |

The way i understand, its not that we are swapping positions with them we will be outright giving them our first round pick if we end up with a worse record than the broncos. |

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
One thing is for sure. Nobody online anywhere has a got a clue as to what exactly we gave up in this trade. There are like 14 different reports. I've never seen anything quite like it. I guess we have to wait until they pass the physicals because the nfl web site just says we gave up a third which would be an amazing deal if you ask me.

Re: We traded for T.J. Duckett?
I don't know if this has been mentioned already. But Gibbs was an owner of the Falcons when they drafted Duckett. And while Gibbs wasn't very actively involved with the team I'm sure he got to see Duckett up close and personal several times in games and practices so he must have some sense of what TJ can do for the Skins

I like the way you think. I really think Gibbs and Saunders sat down and thought this one through. Two offensive masterminds decided this is what we would need. |

You don't understand the deal. Scenario 1: Redskins finish with a worse record than Broncos Result: Broncos swap first round picks with Skins (meaning they get ours, we get theirs), plus the Skins give Broncos a 2007 3rd. Hypothetical situation, that I really really hope doesn't happen: Everything goes wrong for the Skins, they wind up with a top 10 draft pick. Everything goes right for Denver, they get the 32nd pick. Under this deal, Denver gets that top ten pick, Skins get the 32nd. Scenario 2: Redskins finish with a better record than Broncos Result: Skins give Broncos 2007 3rd and 2008 4th. There is a bit more to the deal than that, but it's the simple version. |

Well, only a 5% owner... Look at this snippet I found. Scary to think he could be coaching the Falcons now. Thanks for the loyalty, Coach Gibbs. From Wikipedia:
In 2002, Gibbs and a small group of investors bought five percent of the Atlanta Falcons from owner, Arthur Blank for $27 million[3]. It wasn't until late 2003 when Gibbs really started to catch the football fever again. Arthur Blank and his general manager, Rich McKay quickly interviewed him for the Falcons's vacant head coaching position due to the firing of Dan Reeves. However when Gibbs found out that Steve Spurrier resigned as the Redskins' head coach, they realized that even though Gibbs was one of the team's minority owners, his loyalty still lies with the Redskins
|

I don't have a problem with this trade, Duckett is still young and I doubt you can find a back of his caliber in the the third round, further more he really fit what we want to do. I just don't want this to be a 1 year rental, I do believe we now have a true thunder and lightning backfield. |
