Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather
Like Dan Graziano said on twitter, you could be Ronnie Lott but if you arent on the field you arent helping anyone. In that regard just about any player is an upgrade to Landry.
I do agree that this isnt the solution but more like 1 possible solution. |
Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather
Get Landry next lol
I like LL but let's face it, the guy just hasn't been able to stay healthy the last 2 years.
He was one of my favorite players when on the field. He's become a liability though and we all have to accept that the end has come and move on. The Skins have. We should too. There are so many could-have-beens for EVERY team in the NFL. LaRon, Thomas/Kelly, Arrington, Heath Shul... Sorry, that guy still sickens me to think about. |
Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather
He's also made 2 pro-bowls (as shitty as that is) and how many has LL made? The only reason LL hasn't been benched because his replacements are shittier.
Which is the big problem with this signing, at least on March 15.
Plenty of time exists to make this look like an attempt at buying low on a guy who might be on his last chance. But without a subsequent move, then a buy low opportunity based on potential "he'll play if he does what we know he can" becomes foolish "he'll play well because we picked him up." So let's table my reaction on this one til we have a complete picture of the plan. |
Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather
Im not Meriweather fan and its definitely not an upgrade but i would suspect Merriweather is a hell of a lot cheaper than Landry is gonna be. So at a cost standpoint Meriweather may give us more options. Maybe we can still keep LL?
Slightly agree... Meriweather is somewhat of a headcase (brawl at the U) but this, like many have said, is a low risk/high reward deal... If he plays well great, if not we dump him... He's not a scrub (2 time pro bowler, former 1st round pick, and pretty durable) and with Morris as our DB's coach he might be regain motivation, become more mature, and be more coachable, knowing that if it doesn't work out here, he's done; With Meriweather I think his problem is more mental (attitude, maturity, and discipline) than his talent |
Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather
I personally think this is a lateral move more than anything. Is he a upgrade? No. Is he a downgrade? No. He's been benched twice now for stuff that LL does repeatedly. What he isn't though is injured. LL on the other hand is.
There you go. There's plenty of time to find the solution to the problem at safety. The only question is: are the Redskins looking?
I dont really think it matters if theyre looking or not. I dont think theres anything else that can be done at the saftey spot this year. Maybe LL or Reggie Nelson, but im not so sure about either of them being anything more then a stop gap. We already have stop gaps. |
Re: Redskins Sign S Brandon Meriweather
I assume our draft plan is going to take one of the weak safeties that somehow fall to us in the third and then maybe beef up the line with the rest of the picks.

Stll, Landry always plays hard, while Meriweather is known to take plays off. I think it's that last part that the Redskins think they can scare out of him. And to that I say: best of luck to them. |

Agreed, the draft is our best hope at finding a bona-fide starter. I have the feeling this season, we may have to outscore our opponents. We'll be unleashing the deep ball on our opponents (with success) and they'll be trying to do it to us. Our front 7 will be rock solid, so they'll need to attack our lack of safeties and our ball-hawking CB who goes for interceptions over tackles at times. Should be a fun season though. |

I do think if anyone can strighten Merriweather out it will be Morris. Anyone think Merriweather will also play special teams? |

I'm not sure I buy that given how last season with the Bucs turned out. It seems like players started to quickly tune him out. He might be more effective on a micro level and for only a year, but I wonder how much he can actually help. |

Can't look but so much when there isn't anything there. There is no Safety pool in FA this year. We are most definitely going to have to address this issue in the draft, and I am okay doing that. |

Redskins fans should prepare for higher scoring games. Let's hope that we come out on the right side more often than not. |
