re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
Irsay can mollify Colts fans. Peyton can say goodbye. A hopeful PR win-win.
Exactly. They both have had plenty of time to prepare for this and I imagine both sides understand the others position even if they don't agree with it. They have had a great run together. No reason to tarnish that. |

Manning's offense is extremely vertical, where as the Shanny's west coast system is crossing routes and such, also if you've ever heard little shanny he calls the play and which route to throw (very micro or anal). |

Again Kyle s offense in Houston was vertical also, and he's the OC not mike. Manning would fit in well IMO. Get him his guys at WR plus a good TE in FD and CC and let him do work |
If Shanahan and son can't make Peyton F*cking Manning work out, they need to be fired period. Look at freaking Darth Hoody and all the adjustments he's made over the years and how that has resulted in a dynasty.

Not saying that. I am saying that the offense that he's been in since he came into the league 14yrs ago, is not and does not resemble a west coast offense, if you want the Manning that you are used to it won't be the same guy. With that said does anyone think that for the 2yrs he would be here the shanny's would alter everything? Also, the Texans ran a similar version of shanny's west coast but they went over the top because of Andre Johnson, there is no Andre Johnson in Washington. |

Ridiculous. He throws the ball and someone catches it. Simple as that. System and play calling my ass. It's all football in the end. |

Kurt Warner was just on NFL Network pointing out that it might take a coaching staff that allows Peyton to essentially run the offense to get him. I mean I guess it's possible we could sign him but based on what we've heard about the Shanahan's doesn't exactly sound like a match. |
re: Colts Officially Release Peyton Manning (QB Thread #11)
If Allen and Shanny think they have a good shot at getting the #2 pick in the draft, remember the "handshake deal rumor" then you pass on Manning and hope like HELL RG3 is the real deal. If you do not have a chance at RG3 then you throw the bank at Manning, draft Justin Blackmon at #6 then draft a QB in the 2nd round to develop and learn from Manning for the 2-3 years that he would be here. I know that everyone wants a franchise QB that will play for the Redskins for the next 10+ years. With that said, if we miss out on Manning and RG3 say hello to 6-10 next season. There will be nothing more frustrating in 2 years if Manning has some team in the playoffs playing great, RG3 developing into a fine NFL QB and we are still searching for a starting QB. This is the year to get a QB and there are 3-4 great/possible great ones to get, no matter the cost we HAVE TO GET ONE this offseason.
I am sick of losing |

Neither Shanahan runs a traditional west coast offense. The basic philosophy has always been run the ball and then hit the deep passes off play action. In fact it's that love for the deep ball that sees many a QB under Shanahan struggle to complete more then 60% of their passes. Even Elway. It's also part of the reason Shanahan loves QB's that can throw downfield. |
