Right, my question is how is that he's restricted after 5 years? by contract? I thought the new cba, like the old, granted free agency after 4 years.
Seems to apply to 5 year contracts too as per this:

"Q. What is the difference between a restricted free agent and an unrestricted free agent?

A. In the 2010 League Year, players become restricted free agents when they complete three, four or five accrued seasons and their contract expires. Unrestricted free agents have completed six or more accrued seasons."

Then you're not a football fan per se but a Laron Landry fan. I'm not saying one is right and one wrong but they are most definitely two different things hoss.

Clark, Branch and Harper (in that order IMO) consistently make bigger hits than Landry has ever made...like in his whole career. Not to mention all three are better in coverage and far better tacklers.

The rest on the list are simply more consistent players. Better tackling. Better coverage. Less nonsense.

lol at not being a football fan, get off ur high horse just cuz my opinion differs from yours.. i watch every game every week, clark is the only player on ur little list i give any credit to, but it also helps when u play opposite Troy. Kenny phillips, lmao yea him n antrell rolle both are just killing this year arent they? outta here wit that riff raff

not to mention ignoring the second partof my statement, how do u suppose we sign these ppl? face it, we're not going to get any better at the position Landry is it for us. so back him, dont trash him. he's IMO alot better than you and others give him credit for.

What we need to do is wait until some highly touted, once every twenty years he comes along phenom at FS is available in the draft. Do absolutely nothing at the FS position, hope that Landry has some career threatening injury before the summer before said phenom is available and then just sit back and let the losses roll in while then grab that stud FS with the first overall pick in the subsequent draft.

That's how you plan a winner!!!

In all seriousness, Landry frustrates the hell out of me. His speed is ridiculous, as is his strength...unfortunately, his fundamentals are a bit ridiculous too

What 2nd part of your statement?

No sorry I don't believe you actually watch the guys on the list, especially the three I mentioned in the follow up post, because there's really no comparison...Landry just isn't playing to nearly that level.

Per the Troy/Ryan duo I think there's a strong argument it's also Ryan allowing Troy to make the plays he does, as in they compliment each other very well. The insinuation you made that Ryan wouldn't be a great safety w/o Troy again shows you're not really paying attention to what these guys do on the field (let alone the stats).

LOL on the watching every game every week though! Sorry you're unemployed I guess ??

To be sure sacrificing one season for a once-every-other-decade phenom QB is a no-brainer, but I'm not sure about safety SS? For one thing most safeties just don't have the longevity because of the toll that position takes on the body.

Can't agree on Landry's speed. He looks a step or two behind much of the time to me, which could be groin or aquilles but nonetheless it means the same thing to his on field performance.

you have to be un-employed to watch football? wow thats news, a 9-5 m-f doesnt allow you to watch football. and I said I gave credit to Clark.. i thought it was a mistake to ever let him go.. and how do u expect to replace Landry with your list. thats the 2nd part. let it go, Landry is the best we're going to get so like i said back him dont trash him.
Still not gonna buy the list... at all.. landry has made more plays then all of them with the exception of clark probobly.

The point is average-overall starter is...just...that, and shouldn't be paid like the top five guys in the league. I'm happy to keep Laron for a modest contract. Scheme-wise, finding a talented FS will help this secondary/defense far more than keeping Laron, if that helps you with perspective. He's not the sickness or the cure so to speak.

Im a LaRon fan. I know he hasnt been very consistent but he has shown flashes when healthy. I know his health has been an issue as well. He posseses all of the ability to be an elite safety but just needs to work on his fundamentals and get in the film room!! its so frustrating to watch sometimes, i hope atogwe can teach him a few things in this department. But just food for thought, 2 drafts ago what if we selected Eric Berry in the first round, I know we would have left a hole at left tackle but i think Berry will be the next best safety without a doubt. I always find myself thinking damn what if he was in B & G. Bottom line though is we have to resign him, hes better than anyone else we would get. Dont sign him to top dollar like he wants, i dont think anyone will but sign him, it would just leave another hole to fill.

This is what PISSES ME OFF about the media. A lot of these professional athletes are out there doing great things for those in need. The only time we hear something is when one of them does something immature or stupid.

As for Landry, if we lose him it's going to be a sad day in DC. Hopefully he retires a Redskin. I still have dreams about him and #21 in same secondary. /facepalm.

About sums it up for me too. He's a 5 year vet but doesn't show it much. In fairness to him, his 2010 season was derailed by his achilles, had he stayed healthy he might have a contract already as he was having quite a year.
