Re: Larry, Sonny, and Sam- the radio trio must go
I used to think Charles Mann would be a great addition to the radio team (in Sam's place). He was the commencement speaker at my sister's high school graduation and he came off as very smart and personable and I thought he would be able to provide intelligent insight into the game.
And then he announced one of preseason games. It was horrendous! Granted, maybe he would just need more practice, but it sounded like the commentary from a mid-90's Madden cartridge. He was stiff and boring and to me just got annoying after a little while. Oh well, hopefully they're trying to groom someone for the future. |

Radio might be ok for him. TV he struggles mightily when the camera turns on. I actually Trevor Matich could be a solid color commentator |

Re: Larry, Sonny, and Sam- the radio trio must go
co worker said yesterday while driving around shopping with his daughter in fredericksburg he had the game on and said the guys were talking about Eli. He said either Sonny or Sam said "Eli has turned out all right, I know the Giants were glad they took him over Ryan Leaf"....
My coworker just laughed and said "noooooo thats Peyton Manning"...he said they are horrible, he had never listened before. |

Trevor Matich is the best ! he would be a great addition to the Booth!

Re: Larry, Sonny, and Sam- the radio trio must go
I am surprised at all the Sonny and Sam hate in this thread.
I haven't listened to them since Larry Michael forced Frank Herzog out of the booth, but I always enjoyed the trio when Frank was the play by play guy. I grew up on them, and listened every week. I think they related to the listeners very well. Just seemed like regular dudes. I listen to some of the pregame show, and Sonny still seems capable. Sam seems a bit out of it, but I guess I see him as a loveable grandpa type and I can't bring myself to be too critical of him. Larry Michael is the reason I no longer listen to them. He's a slimeball. I can guarantee that I would not ever tune in to the pregame show if either Theismann or Matich joined the show. Theismann talks way too much, and Matich comes across as an arrogant jerk. I watch the CSN postgame show with Chick, BMitch, and Matich. Chick and BMitch make up for Matich, but not by much. I turn off ESPN whenever Matich comes on the air. I just can't stomach him. |

I agree that the show is somewhat laughable - that being said, at this point, these guys are like family.

I agree, if anyone goes it should be Sam. Sonny is still good but Sam has lost whatever pitches he had left. I listened to the Giants game on the radio and he kept getting the Giants and Redskins mixed up. You could hear Sonny covering for him, it started to get sad in a way. Doc Walker wouldn't be bad up there. |

Well in Sam's defense he played for both teams...... It should be interesting if there is a major shakeup this year. If not it should be even more entertaining next year with an additional year of dementia progression. |
