I would quickly add Cowher and Tomlin to the hard ass list. Tomlin is a thoughtful person in interviews and overall I think a really high-character guy, but watch him on the sideline and he's as prickly as they come.

With all the negative BS that accompanies working for the Skins these days, the nations capital does have a few perks not available from other teams.

Marty [I]already was [/I]GM and HC because [U]that's what Dan Snyder agreed to according to the terms of the contract.[/U] Year one under Marty wasn't so great offensively, and Snyder wanted him to relinquish control of parts of the coaching staff.

It was Dan Snyder who tried to weasel out of the terms of the contract and Marty called him on it.

After Spurrier left, one of the coaches that was available was Tom Coughlin. For some reason, Coughlin was never on the list of possible coaches at that point. Never understood why.

Not entirely correct. The contract called for Marty to be both HC and GM but included an option for Snyder to go hire a General Manager. Snyder thought at the time it was too much for Schottenheimer to handle both coach and personnel duties and wanted him to focus only on coaching.

That's not the way it was reported at the time. According to Rick Snider of the Washington Times, Snyder [I]wanted to change the terms of the original contract[/I] to get more control over personnel decisions. He also wasn't happy with O-coordinator Jimmy Raye.

Marty S. is JUST WHAT THIS TEAMS NEEDS. A few weeks ago when we were playing the Giants I noticed that they looked like the team that was physically tougher and stronger. And to me that is what this team is missing and Marty will make sure we're a physically tough team. Not to mention some much needed discipline.

If I could find a link I'd post it, but I was covering the Redskins pretty exclusively in 2001 and I definitely remember that Marty's initial contract called for the option of hiring a general manager.

You're right about the organization not wanting Raye.

I personally would hate to see him in anything close to B&G, but word is that he might be looking to leave Miami after this year, as is his usual pattern. IF we have a miserable 09 & the Danny really wants to blow this thing up, don't be surprised if he's at least contacted.
