Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
I was shitting on the Skins earlier for how they've gone about this but if we can actually start and win a trade war for Trent I'm all for it. Love the player but everyone's got a price.
If Houston offered Clowney for Trent would u take it?
I say no but its been brought up on twitter by the media
Hell to the no! Maybe if he had a couple years left, with a team friendly cap hit...but this would be giving up a perennial pro bowl LT, for a one year rental for over $15 mil...NOPE! I'm all about waiting for the deal of the century, or no deal at all. BTW, if he DOES come back, the Redskins can forgive all these fines...the fines are standard practice across the NFL. Teams would be stupid not to fine the players for not showing up to work. |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
I want Trent, period. So does every player on the team (with the exception of Penn). And virtually every fan. They need to figure out how to get it done.

Wow... on Sheehan's radio show , Adam Schefter, who reported the Skins were turning down every trade offers they received for TW, made 2 very interesting points:
1) Teams are not trading players... until they do. Reminded us the Raiders were not trading Khalil Mack... until they received an offer they couldn't refuse. 2) In 1995, the Broncos traded holding out Pro Bowl LT Gary Zimmerman to the Vikings for a 1st, a 2nd and a 6th ! He said the situation is virtually identical, so that'd be the baseline, and anything less than a 1st would be ridiculous. |

Maybe if they get an irresistible offer, they will pull it off. Won't hold my breath but you never know. |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
The Skins continue to hold $21M of leverage over Trent and there are reportedly three teams interested in trading for him, so they hold leverage in the trade market, too. They should be patient and let things come to them. We'll get close to Week 1 and either Trent will show up, or they'll get a strong trade offer.

Williams seems adamant about not playing for us anymore and the team seems adamant about not trading him. I don't trust Allen with a situation this tenuous. Just a poor distraction prior to the season starting, but it is what it is.

Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
"Do I think if the Redskins ever were to deal Trent Williams they would get a 1 [first-round draft pick]? Absolutely," Schefter said on The Kevin Sheehan Show. "And you know what, by the way, I don' think they trade him for anything less than something like that ever. I mean, why would you? You're talking about a seven-time pro bowl left tackle, who's 31."
Anything less than a 1 is a HUGE FAILURE |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
Sources around the league feel that it is inevitable that we trade him soon:
https://www.yahoo.com/sports/while-redskins-wont-trade-him-025517109.html Might as well trade him now to highest bidder after increasing demand. A haul really does seem possible. |

Yeah, a lot of people are painting the Skins are losers in this story, but I actually think they're in a situation were it'll be hard to lose... now they've documented how capable of losing a winning situation they are, but still... |

Trent plays 75% of the time these days, huge difference. Zimmerman played 5 more years for the Vikings, nobody would project that out of Trent. |

Thanks for these precisions, I was 5 back then so didn't know much more than what Sheehan and Schefter said about it. Good point, but I still think anything less than a 1st would be 100% unacceptable. |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
The twitter world seems to believe it will be Trent for Clowney since Houston doesn't want to come off the 1st.
At the end of the day, If tRent really wants out , we have to get the best for him and Clowney would be great for a year.. Only problem is he wants a huge deal |
Re: Trent Williams holding out for new deal
No, I say wait, wait for offers to increase, wait for an injury on some other team to occur, wait for something you CAN NOT turn down.
When I say now, I mean sometime in the next few weeks assuming offers do increase. Start the trade war. Think that's occurring actually. We need to take into account him missing a few games a year and coming off the health issue. I want maximum value, but also make sure it's still an attractive haul. Trading him right before the regular season to a team with Super Bowl aspirations (Houston, NE, etc) should pull in the best net. Also, not counting on NE to be the team with their perpetual shrewdness for situations like this.
Not good with Williams for Clowney. I want the 1st rd pick minimum. |
