Honestly don't know why the idea of CH at MLB is viewed as a bad idea by some.

I'm pretty sure it would help in any free agent negotiations for it to be known that they have a plan for that position. |
So we'll basically have three LBs learning new positions next year instead of finding a true MLB... Sounds like a plan.
This. Everyone can see the hole, if Holcomb was the answer then he woulda been there last year. Big swing and miss by Ron with Davis pick. They claimed over and over he was the answer at MLB. And let’s not bring up Bostic at mlb who was a disaster. They have had multiple affordable options at mlb the last couple years. Hopefully they can find an option, teams can still cut someone and their still some players out there. Let’s hope we can fill this obvious hole in the d |

I'm not sure it's a 'bad' idea long term. However, how much has he played the position? I'm asking because I honestly don't know. I feel like he hasn't played MLB much. How much has J Davis played WLB or SLB? They tried him at MLB last year when he wasn't on the bench. He may be better suited to be the WLB and I think he played outside towards the end of the season, but not a whole lot of reps. Then who is going to play SLB? You could have three LBs learning new positions next year which is a recipe for bad things. For me it just seems like after two years they are still bumbling through the LB position, which is amazing given the fact that both RR and JDR are former LBs. You would think that the one position they would have squared away is the LB position. At least there will be continuity in the secondary - because between the secondary and the LBs last year - they were competing for the worst unit award. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
I don't think the learning curve would be that steep for CH at all. He knows the system, he's a smart dude, and he can play.
This! It really seems like they are saying, we don't want to pay a lot for the one of the vets out there in free agency, what can we do with what we already have?? They tried Apke at corner too...everyone remember that? F the compensatory pick, sign Wagner or someone willing to come here, and get better on defense! |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Cole is smart and plays tough. But he just doesn’t have the physical tools to be that guy. He is always headed in the right direction but two steps too slow. If he is that guy we are in trouble. Imo he is a superb depth guy no matter where he is lining up. I wanted him replaced not promoted lol.

My up beat view on picking Davis last year was based on the idea that these guys know what they are doing. But going into their third year they have failed to draft or develop any LBs of note. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Bobby Wagner still unsigned means he wants to much $$. He's a damn good player but he's also on the downslide of his career. Fletcher was too and came in and was amazing but the odds of that are slim

CH too slow? Dude runs like a 4.5 in the 40. I don't ever recall thinking damn this dude is slow. |

He reportedly wants 1 year $11M. That's tough for anyone to take that big of a hit for a one year rental. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Big turnoff if having to burn another high pick at LB this upcoming draft.

There are only 22 positions, they are all very important. I never get this type thinking. Same reason I was perfectly fine drafting Scherff when we did. Give me a stud, I don't care what position they play. If we draft another LB and he kicks ass we will all love him. |

Giving up and swinging again the year after at a LB position is really bad work by Ron, Mayhew (who has a history of being garbage), and FO. |
Re: 2022 Commanders off season thread part 1
Any consideration this may be smoke screening to temper the FA demands or convince others we won't draft MLB at #11? I mean if Devin Lloyd is still there when we pick would we be fools to not take him? Or we can take Kyle Hamilton and pick up an MLB in later rounds/after the draft? I'm not inclined to read too much into what Ron says before the draft.
