That's actually the first time i heard that information. I did not realize thats why he did it. I remember when they made a big deal about it at the time. Had no idea...
Everyone, including myself, thought he was just going crazy. But I found out that night that he was tossing it to the son/daughter of some exec or his agent (honestly, i can't remember). It was reported but buried, people didn't really focus on that part of the story. Wasn't as interesting I suppose |

Sorry to digress, couldn't resist. On topic, I don't see Beck being the next Garcia, Plunkett, or T. Green. However, I don't make millions of dollars to make these calls and will, for now, trust in the guys who do. Also, I won't judge Beck right out of the gate, but, if he is sucking it up by game 6 and we have no one to replace him, I may be just a mite peeved. Shanahan says he has a plan with Beck, fine.
Reading on SI.com last night and it said Kyle covets Matt Leinart who was in Houston last year in the same system he runs. I'll be ok with Beck, Rex, Leinart going into camp. We aren't spending big money on a FA QB so if that's what we roll with let's make the best of it.
Heck, why not? I still believe Leinart has the tools. I'm not upset at all at the fact of seeing Beck as the starter. It is going to be a very interesting 2011! |

Yeah he's got the tools. For judging a beauty pageant in a hot tub. He has obviously shown in the various places he has been during his NFL tenure that football is obviously not first and foremost on his list of important things. I don't want that on my team. |
Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
Personally I've heard Leinart matured a lot last year, but I also think he got robbed in Arizona. He had a much better preseason than Derek Anderson. There was no reason to let Leinart go and keep DA.
But maybe getting cut was the best thing to happen to Leinart |
Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
Leinart, Beck, + a UDFA would be a good structure for this season at that position. I understand that Grossman is a basic certainty to be back , but if we're going to have Beck AND Grossman on the roster, I don't see the point of adding another veteran.

Leinart, Beck, + a UDFA Ugh...we would not be helping a fantasy draft in any way. |

The one that isn't being asked, for some reason.

I'm only 26, but I really only remember two really good Redskins Teams that Snyder put together. The first team i can think of is when we went to the playoffs in 1999, and the next year was 2005. One thing I think those two teams had was good QB play that kind of made the whole team play better. I still say Brunell would have had another good year or 2 here if Gibbs had kept the same offense and forgot about bringing in Saunders. Beck might play good. But it's hard to tell. It seems to me that this is a team that may be lucky to win 7 or 8 games this year. I just hope we see something that tells us we are close to being contenders. Like the Lions last year. I know they had a poor record, but you can look at that team and tell that it is very close to being successful. |
Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
Snyder didn't have anything to do with the 99 team, he took over too late to have an impact. 2000 was his first real season as owner and that's when he went crazy bringing in free agents.
And in 2005 Gibbs was calling the shots. |
Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
I can't believe I'm saying this, but Sexy Rexy is probably our best bet right now.
