Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
It'll be pretty funny if Beck gets cut before the season starts.

Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
I'll give Beck a chance and let him compete with Rex. May the best man win. I see alot of people asking for Vince Young, IMO, unless he received a brain-transplant over the offseason/lockout, he is just going to blow his stack and freak out the minute something goes wrong.
I've said it before and i'll say it again, I think Vince Young is a good person, a good man, and a very talented football player, HOWEVER, he is not mentally well at this point in time, and it is very selfish of anyone to ask him to play instead of get his health straightened out. Vince can be OK again but mental illness is not something to joke with. He needs help. |
Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
I really don't think Vince Young is mentally ill, not at all. Maybe he's been a bit insecure, but not mentally ill.

I hope he is insecure somewhere else then. Last thing we need is an unstable locker room and more media circus-fed stories. |

I respect your opinion, and I can see where you would get that feeling. I was just going from the times where they were reporting VY to be "Suicidal", that time where he went missing from his family for a few days, and they found him locked in his car and all that. Then the well documented issue he had last year, throwing his pads at the fans and all that. Maybe insecure, sure. but if he was truly suicidal which his mother and friends felt he might have been, that screams mental illness. |
Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
If someone is depressed enough to the point of being suicidal, that doesn't necessarily mean they are mentally ill.

Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
John Beck the next Trent Green..
|
Re: Redskins 2011 Starting Quarterback: John Beck?
He did not throw his pads at the fans, he tossed his jersey and pads to his agent's son as a gift

Hey why not? TG came out of nowhere. Stranger things have happened. |

John Beck jersey.

Amen to that! This situation is the mirror image of the Colt Brennan situation. Here the coach wants Beck as the starting QB and some fans think Beck is a stiff. A couple of years ago, the coaches believed that Brennan was nowhere near good enough to play in a real game but some fans thought Brennan would be an All-Pro if only given the chance. Coaches make decisions with regard to players. That is what they get paid to do... |

Hopefully in our favor this time though. Trent Green, Stan Humphries...ugh. |

That's actually the first time i heard that information. I did not realize thats why he did it. I remember when they made a big deal about it at the time. Had no idea... |

Ramsey (who also was never given a chance) and the 3rd coming of Johnny U. who got a chance and showed real moxie!!! <sarcasm font off> Sorry to digress, couldn't resist. On topic, I don't see Beck being the next Garcia, Plunkett, or T. Green. However, I don't make millions of dollars to make these calls and will, for now, trust in the guys who do. Also, I won't judge Beck right out of the gate, but, if he is sucking it up by game 6 and we have no one to replace him, I may be just a mite peeved. Shanahan says he has a plan with Beck, fine. Given Beck's prior lack of production, I hope Shanny has a back-up plan as well. |
