Idk how he does it. How does someone make the roster year after year without a single memorable highlight on the field?
I agree. I hope we tag him and trade him, hopefully sometime around the draft for something better than a 3rd rounder.
Yeah like a first. He will be 26 when next year starts and is a proven commodity. Will be really pissed if we trade a first rounder who totally panned out for a second round maybe. But with us you never know. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Thinking about this roster I don’t think we need a big ticket in free agency this year. Usually there is one free agent where I go, “oh yeah he is worth breaking the bank for”, but we have done a decent job drafting and building a young nucleus especially on the defensive side.
Keep that core if we can. Character first guys who play unselfishly The one thing I would say is Wes Schweitzer and Tra Turner are free agents, instead of resigning, take that combine cap of 7.5 million and maybe put it towards a quality free agent RG. That’s really the only spending Id do. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
100% agree. The only big signings we should make this offseason is with our own players.
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Quality depth in free agency along the oline and in the secondary and or LB. Though I would consider a stud TE if there is one available.
Draft Ocyrus Torrence out of Florida. Versatile interior Lineman. Beast. Suring up the oline is priority number 1. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
By the looks of it go grab one or two of the o-linemen off of Georgia and then a FA, then we can perhaps solve line issues. Jesus, those guys manhandled TCU.

Not even our own players will be signed if it requires a substantial signing bonus. Payne can be retained thru the franchise tag though as there would be no bonus involved. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I think Turner is done in DC, just a gut feeling
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I was truly hoping that today's newspaper heading would read "Rivera, Turner, Del Rio fired. So now we get another year of Rivera's lousy coaching and BS excuses, Turner's lousy offenses, and Del Rio's lousy defenses. I will bet that Rivera will give away the house again for another crappy washed up "star savior". If you want to see what a good coaching change can do for a team, look at Jacksonville. They went from being considered to be one of the worst teams and are now division champions and are in the play-offs.
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I think the fact RR is still coaching is a good sign the Dan is going to sell the team. A new owner will want to evaluate and select their own people and not have to deal with the headache of firing someone Dan just hired. The caveat to that is it requires Dan to actually have a business IQ.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Take Roquan Smith off the board for potential LB help.
Very interesting Ravens made that contract happen his week, i feel like they are almost taunting Lamar with it. |

Lamar would be perfect for a Kyle offense but he will be franchised most likely

No thanks, you would have to get rid of a lot of players and mortgage your future for a QB who is declining and getting injury prone. No thanks!! Roll with Sam. |
Lamar would be perfect for a Kyle offense but he will be franchised most likely
Yeah I could see that…I mean Kyle is a genius. Greg Roman made the scheme for Lamar to excel in. I think you take him out the scheme, it would make me too nervous to pay him 35-40 million per year, running QB who has missed time due to injury in another scheme where he might be asked to do more as a passer. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Just turned 26 so he has at least 5-6 Prime years left of being a star but yes he will cost big $$ . He would fit the scheme though and Ron does love Veteran QBs so I could see them making a play for him. I'm on the fence, I like Sam but Lamar is a freak, only issue is he isn't a great passer.
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Lamar will be a huge downgrade for any receivers and we have a great WR corp...
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Nathaniel Hackett and AR 12…bring that pair to DC
|
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Let's draft and bring in our own guy. Howell gets a shot at the job, draft someone in the mid rounds and either keep TH or bring in someone better than him at the right price.
Lamar still has some years left ( in his prime) but he just plays too much of a style where he is going to always get hurt. He's not built like Josh Allen. Not surprising he is already breaking down. |

I'm not sure why anyone thought that Ron was going to get fired. He's coaching the team in 2023. |

He was a great runner and very underrated passer. Ranked top 10 in a lot of important metrics TD%, qbr, td/int ratio etc. but he has not been that the last two years. To me I’d probably say no thanks |

I'd rather draft Anthony Richardson in the 1st round over giving Jackson some crazy ass contract. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
If Ron is to be gone, we need a new owner before the end of February else we're too close to the draft, then camp to change the staff without risking comprising the roster. Here's hoping.
Else we need Ron & Co. to realise the best option is to roll with Howell, sign a vet backup and draft a #3. Tag Payne if we can't re-sign him quickly. I'd love to keep him but understand if it makes more sense to trade him. I agree with clearing out the OL room rather than re-signing guys who would struggle to make any of the other 31 rosters, but that also means we need to pick up 2-3 guys in FA AND expend a few picks. I can't see another option that doesn't leave Howell behind a paper wall next year. I'd grab a CB and at least 1 LB in FA then draft same. I wouldn't draft a TE unless he's BPA. There are 2-3 adequate if not good FA options available as it stands. Beyond that it's draft BPA and see what else is affordable in FA. |
Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Pass on Lamar.

Big money to a qb who makes his living by being a dual threat? What could go wrong. /sarcasm in case it wasn't obvious. I don't want to pay big money to any qb who isn't a classic Manning/Brady/Rodgers/Mahomes/Allen clone. |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
I wouldn't expect nor want any massive move (especially at QB) this offseason unless we got a new regime up and running in time for the FA, which I don't see happening. 2024 is the fresh start. 2023 will be a weird transitioning season, hopefully Howell behind a fixed Oline can develop enough make the next regime want to go forward with him.

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Sources: The #Raiders will begin the process of evaluating the trade market for QB Derek Carr, as they prepare for a decision on their QB for the future. This points to the possibility of Carr, who holds a no-trade clause and will be part of the process, leaving the organization.
Please say NO Ron |

Re: Commanders 2023 Off-Season Thread
Funny how fussy people are considering how QB starved this team has been for the last 30 years. Jackson - nah. Rodgers - nope. Carr - no way. Howell with one game under his belt - sign me up!
Pretty amazing stuff. It's going to be another long offseason. |

Pretty amazing stuff. It's going to be another long offseason.
One takes no further resources, the others all take A LOT of resources. That's not an apples to apples comparison. I'd rather have Howell, all of our current picks, and all of the money that going with Howell will free up to improve the rest of the roster, than getting either of those 3 guys. I don't think that's an insane position. I wouldn't cry over getting Rodgers or Jackson though. The Howell option is my preference, not an I'm going to lose it if I don't get my way situation. Barring injuries, we would be a guaranteed playoff team next year with either of them. I'd take Jackson over Rodgers if a choice between those 2, as you can craft an offense around him that Howell could also play in, if Jackson did have to miss some games (which has been the case in the past). And you can plan on building around Jackson for at least another 5 or so years. Carr, who knows, he looked a lot like Colts Wentz this year. The picks and the money aren't worth the risk to me for him. |
