Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
Per a team statement there is no connection between the Redskins and the Braveheart trademark. Snyder reportedly doesn't even know the guy mentioned in the TMZ report.

Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
I actually think that was one of the biggest steps to help us there has been. if the Vikings had agreed to do what was in their power to block the usage of the name and logo then there would have been a push to do the same at every away game we have.
BTW: There was a hot chick on Different Strokes? |

Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
A question: Can the NFL force a name change? Or does it have to come from the Redskin's management?
I know the NFL can exert a lot of pressure on the team, but ultimately it is up to the team owner, right? |
If the name is ever changed just change it to skins.

The Washington Skins? What kinda Skins? Coonskins? Potato skins? Pork skins? |
Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
I.. actually like pork skins.
The Washington Pork Skins. An ode to the Hogs. I guess we'd get sued by vegetarians then though. |

Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
^ I like it.
And honestly, the only way I see a name change coming is if enough companies start talking about dropping deals with the NFL or the Redskins that a name change would be forced. If DS started losing profit out the ying-yang he would seriously consider it. And if enough people start protesting/media stops using the name that could eventually happen. |

I love the concept, but prefer they go back to the 'R' on the helmets. Logos don't need to match team names. |

True. We could have a potato mascot just so it seems legit. |
Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
The protests in Denver targeted players and apparently were bigger than in Green Bay. Another protest is planned for Minnesota.

I have some native american blood in me and i really do not get this. Seems like these people have too much time on their hands. I still say the cleveland "indians" is more offensive with the damn goofy cartoon dude.

Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
I think today's meeting between Goodell and DS is the beginning of the end for Washington's football team being called the Redskins.
|
Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
I agree Irish, it's sad but I think DS will cave
|
Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
I don't think anything comes from today. It's more of a let's sit down with the other side just to placate them for a while.
|
Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
I just hope he doesn't change the name and logo completely
|
I agree with Matty. Also what makes you guys think DS is going to cave? You dont get to where he is by caving.
|
Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
I agree punch but I think he'll be forced to do it eventually.
|
Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
I dont think its about DS caving or the Skins/NFL placating the other side. I think this meeting is to begin to develop a unified message so that DS and the NFL can change the Skins name all the while maintaining that the word Redskins isnt a slur.
I also think they are going to get together on how to market the new name and logo to maximize the huge profits that are guaranteed to come from this change. This change is going to be a huge win-win for everybody. |

Why? Its still the same team, players, organization, and city. Nothing changes except a nickname, logo, and maybe colors. |
Why? Its still the same team, players, organization, and city. Nothing changes except a nickname, logo, and maybe colors.
Woah woah woah. Their is no reason to change colors or a logo and nobody is asking them to do so. Also - again - this is just a dog and pony show by Snyder and the league to make the few people who are upset about a dumb nickname think that their "problem" is as important as the real problems in the world. |
Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
Personally I think the Dan can put this whole thing to bed if he throws up a few casino's on Oneida turf and hires all the combatants.............
|
Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
Goodell is meeting with the Oneida nation soon, so it makes sense for him to talk with Snyder first and get his take on things

I think so too although it might be too late for that strategy. If we must change, don't change the colors! B&G for life! |

Re: Darrell Green does not support Redskin name change
DS and the NFL will make a ton of money from this name change and that will be the the reason for the change not because they think the name is a slur. These kinds of releases are put out to make it look like DS is fighting the good fight to keep the Redskins name. In the end $ will win the day.

It will cost several million to change the name, they won't just be making a ton of money by changing it. |

How would changing your brand that is already well marketed and established world wide for decades going to make you a ton of money? |
