It'd be stupid for them not to do so. That FA wideout market is quickly drying up. Looks like the best options right now are VJax and Colston. not as bad as we need a #1 receiver, Stevie was my favorite out of the bunch. I feel now that Jackson is the guy, hes way better than Garcon and Colston but he is kissing 30. |

I sure as hell hope we don't go after Jackson, spells disaster. Personally Id rather build from within, see what we've got with a few younger guys. At some point you gotta give them an opportunity. |

Out of Garcon, Jackson, and Colston, i would take Jackson. He has been in trouble in the past but i think he has been good for the most part with no problems. He wasnt my first choice but out of what is supposedly left he is the best choice and would make much more of an impact than the other 2. He really goes up and gets the ball. |

It depends. Who will be our quarterback? If we truly do end up with RG3, I don't want to commit to an aging WR. If we get stuck with another year of Grossman or some other hopeless QB, Vincent Jackson makes sense. |

If we have Grossman, or "some other hopeless QB", the WR position isn't going to matter a hill of beans, because we will be back to seeing protest signs at the games, and fans calling for at least Shanahan's head, and probably everyone else involved. For the discussion of WR, you have to assume some level of competent qb play, and in that case, bringing in a #1, regardless of age (not over 33 i guess) is a must. This is the year the offense needs to be addressed, and addressed in bunches, new qb, solid WR corps, and better RT. Some how, all three of those needs must be met. VJax seems like a simple plan A for the WR part. |

Garcon has had injury problems hasn't he? I really like Colston. VJ is good, but I don't like his baggage and Shanny seems to like character guys. Or who at least he thinks are character guys. :Smoker: |

Not that I'm aware of, he's started all but 5 games the past 3 seasons, certainly no injuries to the extent like Colston has had that's for sure. |

You know what's crazy, look at some of the top WRs in the free agent market (including Stevie Johnson)

Yes he is, he was the best 49ers receiver before he got hurt. |
Yes he is, he was the 49ers receiver before he got hurt.
I know he played for them but I thought he was better as a returner than actual receiver. Everyone talks about how pathetic the 49ers receivers are. I just wouldn't have put him that high myself. I mean he's never even broken 700 yards receiving and more than 3 TDs in four seasons in the league. |

Just look at players like London Fletcher, Arian Foster, Victor Cruz and Miles Austin all of whom are NFL icons but neither of those players were even drafted. Even with young talent, there will always be exceptions outside of the NFL draft. |

Most of the stats were under the old regime, before Harbaugh. Morgan can play and I would target him if Vjax is not signed. |
Re: Around the NFL: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
Looks like the numbers came out for the Foster and SJ signings:
Arian Foster's contract $43.5M ($20.75M guaranteed) over 5 yrs Stevie Johnson's contract $36.25M ($19.5M guaranteed) over 5 yrs |
Re: Around the NFL: 2012 Off-Season-Free Agency/Trades
I'm just wondering, why doesn't every team with a high profile free agent that isn't using the franchise tag just tag and trade their players that they're not looking to retain? Mario Williams, Matt Flynn, Terell Thomas, and Levi Brown (maybe, not entirely sure how good he is) come to mind. I'm more talking about williams and flynn considering I'm not entirely sure how much would be gotten for brown or thomas and what their FA plan is (I say this because they can get compensatory picks equal to trade value if they do not sign other FAs). But I would be absolutely shocked if Williams or Flynn didn't get at least a 2nd rounder if put on the trading block, which is significantly better than an after the 3rd round pick from compensation.
