Re: Around the NFL Week 12
I know in the last two weeks, I've heard DeSean Jackson compared to Devin Hester in terms of being just as valuable to the Eagles as Hester is to the Bears in terms of scoring points. He's not. It's not close. Right now, Patrick Peterson is more of an offensive threat for the Cardinals than DeSean is for the Eagles.
In full disclosure, I still fault the Redskins for not taking DeSean in 2008 in a draft where they picked three pass catchers; that was still really dumb. This organization would be in a better spot with DeSean Jackson. But he's not Devin Hester. He's just not. Needless to say, Devin Hester would have been a better pick than Rocky McIntosh in 2006. Right college team, wrong player. |
Re: Around the NFL Week 12
Chad Jones.....
I like that the Giants stayed with this kid all the way..... Making His Debut in a Giants Uniform, but a Bigger Dream Awaits By WILLIAM C. RHODEN Published: November 28, 2011 When the Giants march onto the Superdome field on Monday night to play the New Orleans Saints, Chad Jones will run out with them. Jones will be wearing his Giants uniform; he will be on the sideline. He will do everything except play. This is not how Jones, a Louisiana State safety who was a third-round draft pick by the Giants in 2010, had envisioned his debut in a professional uniform.Instead, the dream is still alive and Jones is still a Giant. A remarkable regimen has gotten Jones to a point that he says he is 80 percent back from where he was before the accident. Two months before the draft, Jones ran 40 yards in 4.57 seconds. Back then, anything slower would have been unacceptable. Last month, when he ran a 40 in 4.8 seconds in a public workout, Jones was ecstatic. His workouts are more grueling than they were before the accident. "They're definitely more intense," he said. "I'm running 110-yard sprints for conditioning; I'm doing more in the weight room trying to build my endurance and strength up at the same time." Chad's presence in New Orleans with the Giants was evidence of the determination of his dream. He has surprised at every turn: walking when some feared he might be wheelchair-bound; running when some thought he might never walk again. Now he is looking to compete for a roster spot in training camp with the Giants next summer. For now, being with his Giants teammates before a roaring Superdome crowd will suffice. "I've been anticipating this since the day I woke up after the wreck," he said. "I've been thinking about this, dreaming about this since that day - getting back on the field with my team." This is not how Chad Jones envisioned his N.F.L. debut; but all things considered, he'll take it. |

Compared to whom? Compared to Brady/Rodgers he comes up short. Compared to Tarvaris Jackson, John Skelton, Tyler Palko, Curtis Painter, Blaine Gabbert, Caleb Hanie and Rex Grossman he looks pretty good to me. [By the way, all those guys above were starting QBs in NFL games last week...] |

Actually, he performs the best when the pressure is on. Look at his playoff stats. They are amazing. It seems he is average to below in the regular season, but becomes elite come playoff time. |

Should have made Devin Thomas a slot coverage guy, apparently.

Ohh...as compared to the 8.6 yards from Tom Brady? No wait, you really meant somebody like Drew Brees with a 7.9!! Stafford is in the top 5 in the NFL in offense. Top 10 in QB rating. Top 3 in TDs. Top 10 in completion percentage. ...and he's doing it with a broken finger on his throwing hand. Get the hell outta here even putting that clown Campbell and Stafford in the same sentence. |

I know you're a stats guy... but is YPA really that telling? I mean, Stafford is 23 years old, has finally been able to start every game so far in a season (despite a broken finger on his throwing hand right now), and he's top 5 in passing yards, has a rating over 90, and 26 TDs with 5 games left to play. He's not Tom Brady yet, but given his age and the numbers he's putting up.... 5 years from now he'll be in his prime if he stays healthy. Extrapolate those numbers, and the sky is the limit for him. Matt Stafford is way better than Jason Campbell will ever be, YPA be damned. |

Sproles is such a better player than Reggie Bush, its not even close. Sproles easily replace Bush and been far and away a better player in that system. Bush is a huge bust imo.

58% passer? 78.5 career rating Not too great yet
LOL. Are you serious? I hate it for any "Franchise QB" that comes here (draft/FA) because they'll never live up to you fan's expectations. Dude is a top 5 QB and we still got people saying "He's not worth the #1 spot"...... He played a whopping 13 games the first two season, and was tearing it up his 2nd year when he got injured. A 6 TD to 1 INT ratio with a 91.3 rating. So you expected him to have a great rookie year? Did Manning? Nope. Brady? Didn't even play. Aaron Rodgers? Guys he had a 39.8 rating!!! The kid is worth the #1 spot he was selected at. Give the guy a few more years before you start bashing a top 5 QB. Thanks in advance. |

Brady, Rodgers, Manning (Both of 'em), Brees, Roethlisberger off the top of my head. I think he's in the "has potential to be great" group: Cam, Stafford, Ryan, Bradford. And those are all top picks... so his performance is so far commensurate with those drafted in equivalent position to his in the recent past. |
Re: Around the NFL Week 12
He's better than rivers? Manning (s)? Brady? Rodgers? Brees? Big Ben? Romo?Matt Ryan? Cutler? Sorry but he's barely top 10 if that
|
Re: Around the NFL Week 12
I really hope next year the NFL does something about all these shitty calls. Total legal hit on Nicks and probbaly the worst roughing the passer call I think I've ever seen on Manning a bit earlier. The league is just becoming way too soft. We see it every week. Crappy calls that are game changing.

I didn't make a claim he's better than any of those guys. I said he was a top 5 QB and the stats back that statement up. As of THIS year, he is a top 5 QB stat wise. Now if you want to argue Big Ben, Cutler or whoever is better, than that's something else. |

I think making a claim of "Top 5" implies a pretty clear valuation of a player as compared to his counterparts. I can name 10 qb's I'd rather have... and none of which benefit from playing in a dome and having the best receiver in the league. So to me.. not top 5. Still, could happen down the line. For the record, here's my Top 10 for 2011: 1) Rodgers 2) Brady 3) Brees 4) Roethlisberger 5) Cutler 6) Eli 7) Vick 8) Rodgers throwing left handed 9) Romo 10) Schaub 11) John Beck |

Matt Stafford is way better than Jason Campbell will ever be, YPA be damned.
I think your expectations for Matt Stafford are way too high. Beyond passing numbers, he has 10 wins in 3 seasons, and plays now on a team with a top defense. I think he's going to need to play much better to get the Lions over the hump into the playoffs. I think he's capable enough -- and at this point, the Redskins would take anyone capable, but I think the history of Matt Stafford would suggest he's going to struggle to win enough games down the stretch to get the Lions into the playoffs. Stafford is still incredibly young, but I don't think he's progressed to the point where he will be an elite quarterback soon. Down the road? Sure. I wouldn't bet against him or the Lions. I just don't know if I'd bet on him either. Stafford's completion percentage has actually gone up since the finger injury, which is both a good sign for the Lions, and a reason to believe that his wildness has nothing to do with injury: that's just how Matt Stafford has been since college. |
