Someone was asking...Springs is 33. He will be 34 next March 11.

My feel is that Springs is going to have to renegotiate.

I am originaly from Bethesda, but move to OC in 1996 and never left. Love it, accept for home games against AFC teams are only televised if they are the national game. Then I have to watch it at the local bar, or the stadium.

Springs is a GREAT cover corner when he plays, but if he wants to stay with the team he will probably have to. So far he's refused. IF Hall does play well, Springs leverage goes way down.

If I did'nt have to pay to cross the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel I'd probably go even more often. My girlfriend loves OC and seeing the horses on the beach at Assateague. We'll probably go one more time before the year is up. At least gas is going down.

It's a very low risk, possible high reward scenario. The kid is a Redskins fan. Let's see if he behaves like a Redskin. I'm in full support of the move. Redskins lack much solid depth at corner and could always use another return threat.

Strong veterans like London Fletcher and Cornelius Griffen will keep Hall in Check. This could turn out like Rand Moss' move from Raiders to NE. They just wanted out of that terrible place so they started acting out to speed up their departure.
Shawn Springs is not moving to Safety full time unless someone gets hurt. I do see a nickel and dime package with Springs and Landry at safety. Horton can move and play more of a LB position, closer to the line of scrimmage, blitzing and supporting the run.
If Hall pans out and plays to his past abilities, this could be just what the defense needs.

So exactly what else other than the obvious does it tell you?

The falcons where falling apart at the seams, and then the coach bails.

The traiders.....enough said!

If I'm not mistaken didn't the ggirls want to make a run at hall?

We picked up a 24 year old young corner for small coin. That is a local product, that you are forgetting has also been to two pro bowls in his short NFL career. That could have a potential huge upside for our playoff push.

the best thing about this deal for me is that its shows we are the proven winner of the portis-bailey trade. we have the best young secondary in the NFL and the top rusher hind sight is trully 20/20!

Hopefully a stable team and the realization that he needs to check himself if he wants another shot at a long term contract will make him a good pickup. If not, he's out the door. From that perspective I guess there's not too much to hate.

Exactly. Had we, for example, signed him to some 4 year multi million dollar deal, I'd have a big problem with this given his past problems. However, if he acts out, we can cut him right than and there and we dont lose anything. I love the fact that this is a one year deal, and I really think we have a strong enough locker room to keep him fine, and if we dont, he's gone.

I think the one year deal shows the FO has matured also. We've been burnt enough. I just hope the guy can play with discipline within a system and reach the potential he's had since high school. He's made the pro bowl but is that for real or a sign of his popularity upon entering the league? Everywhere he's been, there's been, " yeah he's good but..." I'm tired of it. I hope he is too. Step up Hall.

HALL WANTED TO FIGHT A FALCON LAST WEEK
Posted by Mike Florio on November 8, 2008, 11:24 a.m.

At halftime of last week’s game between the Falcons and the Raiders, former Falcons (and also former Raiders but now current Redskins) cornerback DeAngelo Hall waited for a member of the Falcons.

For the purposes of fighting him.

Falcons linebacker Keith Brooking recently mentioned the incident during a spot with Buck and Kincade on 680 The Fan in Atlanta. Here’s what Brooking said, without naming the former teammate in question.

“One of our ex-players, sitting there in the tunnel, waiting on us to come through the halftime to pick a fight with one of my teammates,” Brooking said. “I’m just sitting there as I’m going to the locker room thinking, ‘Geez, man, I mean, I’m so glad we’re removed from all that mess.’ You know, because of the camaraderie that we have as a team from a players standpoint, the relationships we’ve developed with our coaches. I mean, it’s a great working relationship.”

We don’t know which player Hall wanted to thump (or, as the case may be, get thumped by) or why he wanted to attempt some thumping, but it’s a sign that Hall has a long way to go before he’ll persuade the Redskins to give him a long-term deal.

Then again, maybe he is changing. Consider this quote from a Friday appearance on Sirius NFL Radio with Bruce Murray and Carl Banks. When asked how bad things are in Oakland, Hall said this: “I’m still a firm believer in they’re really not that bad. It was definitely unfortunate the way things worked out for me but I still don’t think it’s a bad place. I still think they’re going to somehow get it turned around. I’ve got a lot of respect for Al Davis. He talked to me like a man, told me I was the last one to come so I’m the first one to go. And I respect that. Gave me the opportunity to go where I wanted to go and that’s all I can ask for.”

Not sure why they would do this either. Maybe Vinny is just looking at potential? Torrence has been around for a while, so chances are he already is the player he'll be in this league. Tryon on the other hand may have the potential to be a starting caliber CB one day.

Or it could be with Durant Brooks already gone, and Kelly likely headed to IR, cutting Tryon would further prove that, Horton aside, this years draft class has thoroughly stunk.

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins

The FO are trying their hardest to make our draft class look good when almost none of them have done any good for our team. Torrence wasn't always good in coverage but he was far more better than Tryon, even though we have barely seen him on the field. I think the FO are a bunch of dumb asses and should be shot. They should have cut Tryon or Jackson. Most Redskins fans don't even know they're on the roster.

As you can probably tell, this move pisses me off. Not the signing of DeAngelo Hall (I love this move), but the cutting of an pretty decent CB in Leigh Torrence. I hope he finds a team soon.

Lotus 11-08-2008 01:48 PM

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins

The move to cut Torrence concerns me, too.

However, Torrence was in his third year (he missed 2006) and was about as good as he was ever going to be. Now, he was not bad, but still, if the peak of his career is as a 4th corner, that is not so good, either.

Tryon, being so young, still has the potential to be better. We haven't really seen him since the preseason - maybe he is looking better in practice. I thought we could move him to the practice squad but, because of his youth, he might not have cleared waivers.

At bottom, losing a career 4th corner is spilt milk that deserves few tears, as much as I will miss Leigh.

Yeah, no doubt. The thing that annoys me is we could have moved Tryon to the practice squad and kept Torrence around anyway. Dumb move cutting him IMO.

Keeping Tryon and not IR-ing Kelly at this point is just desperation that our draft class will pan out in any way, shape, or form this year. Horton aside, this year's draft picks have stunk like hot garbage.

In my opinion the best course of action would be IR Kelly, practice squad Tryon so we can keep Torrence active, and sign a WR who can actually get into pads on Sunday. Another option would have been to cut Mike Green, who has only been around for a few weeks anyway.

Hall better be damn good. It looks to me like he's having an adverse affect on team chemistry already.

skinsfan_nn 11-08-2008 03:13 PM

Re: Hall agrees to one year deal with skins

I'm just a little surprised at this move. Because Torrence certainly isn't very much, ok teamer/bottom barrel corner. But he was serviceable now.

With that said. That is more than I can say for Tyron (Which I don't ever think will be any good) or Kelly standing on the sidelines with street cloths on.

I have never been a fan of Torrence for the record.

I don't think this move has any effect on anything, in the locker room or on the field. Thats why they brought in Hall.

Now we need a WR to replace Kelly and/or knows how to play football better than Thomas, for the stretch run. Both these kids might be ok down the road but we are getting no production out of Kelly and little to none out of Thomas.
