Re: Commanders Free Agency Tamper Window
What makes you think that is what the secondary will look like next year? I mean we are barely on day 2 of free agency, haven't had a draft yet, and a lot of moves happen between the end of the draft and week 1.
It is a little premature for everyone to be coming to these conclusions as to what this team will look like in September, based on the last one day's worth of action... Anyway Bobby McCain is solid. I don't even know whether he is a Safety or Cornerback. He's listed as both depending where you look, but that also speaks to his versatility. He's no Jalen Ramsey or Tyrann Mathieu, but he's not getting paid as such either. I think he falls somewhere near 50th for average salary for defensive backs - and that is IF all that 11 Mil is guaranteed.
Im with you 100% on to early to tell or starting moaning ... id rather be quiet vs over paying and weve seen overpaying so far. But Im not doing that here. Our starters on secondary are inked in, locked in for 2022. McCain/Curl are your starting safeties, Jackson/Fuller/St Juste are your top 3 corners. I like McCain for what he is a low end starting caliber safety. But he is a starter and im fine with it. I wouldnt be fine with Everette or Reaves type player as a starter week 1. I did want a clear upgrade at FS but Im not bashing McCain the player. I did want someone who I can trust going single high to be able to stay single high and not let someone get behind him. A true sideline to sideline FS. McCain is a poor man's coverage safety imo. I dont think im jumping the gun saying McCain/Curl/Jackson/Fuller/St Juste are the starting 5 ... the same starting 5 we had last year sans Collins. We are going to add a safety, ad a CB4 and CB5 but the starters are pretty locked imo. |

Can't fill every position in the draft with our limited picks, so some guys were needed to stay. Hopefully he plays like he did at the end of the season, and not like the beginning. |

Is that what the kids are calling it these days? |
Re: Commanders Free Agency Tamper Window
We're used to signing a handful of guys in free agency, sometimes more. This time we have acquired one very impactful player at the most important position.
You can argue about whether it's a positive impact or a negative impact. I personally think we added more wins with one trade than we have in any prior offseason in a long time. There are still holes to fill but I think they'll be filled over the next few weeks. |

It's entirely possible, but it's way too early to say that. 3 days after the tampering period started last year we signed Ryan Fitzpatrick, Tyler Larsen, Kyle Allen, and Dustin Hopkins. 4 days after the tampering period started last year we signed William Jackson and Curtis Samuel. After that - Adam Humphries, Darryl Roberts, De Andre Carter, Sammis Reyes, Ereck Flowers. Then we had the Draft... Then we brought in Charles Leno, Bobby McCain, Ricky Seals-Jones, some other depth pieces throughout the summer. I'm not sure how you can think - definitively - that they are done in the secondary, or any position group for that matter. |

Re: Commanders Free Agency Tamper Window
Pretty good article on options in FA after JDM left.
https://www.nbcsports.com/washington/commanders/3-running-backs-commanders-can-sign-replace-jd-mckissic I know Tarik Cohen used to be a beast for the Bears, but I'd be concerned after an ACL injury for a speedy back. |
Re: Commanders Free Agency Tamper Window
McKinnon and JDM are very similar players with like athletic abilities. McKinnon might be a good choice as a replacement.

I have to say those 2 signings are head scratchers... McCain wasn't absolutely horrible but I do remember too many blown coverages for him to have zero responsibility in any of them... |
Re: Commanders Free Agency Tamper Window
Yes there is a lot of FA to go and there will be bargains to be had, but do we really want to be going back to the Jon Bostic bargain bin of starting MLB for a third year? That was one position where investment in one of the many good options would have paid real dividends. I just have this sinking feeling we will once again be entering training camp with a real need at linebacker

Not sure what they see in McCain to give him 11 mill over 2 years. As long as Apke stays on teams I am fine w/ him coming back. |

That may be deemed to be an overreaction but if we do I will lose almost all faith in Ron and JDR. |

Yes maybe an overreaction , but colored by the history of the last two years not a massive overreaction. |
