Report: All signs point to Washington hiring Ron Rivera

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the team’s interview with Rivera is more of a “coronation” and that all signs point to Rivera being named the team’s new head coach on Monday. The team can move quickly to hire Rivera as he fills the need to interview a minority candidate under the terms of the Rooney Rule.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

OK, with the likelihood that Rivera is the man (and I was hoping he'd get a look after the Panthers fired him), 2 questions come to mind:

1) Will he hire a DC (please NOT Manusky) and let them run the D or just the coaches and call plays himself? I wouldn't have an issue if he wanted to call the plays, but I feel a HC should be that and trust his coordinators to call the right plays.
2) Does he switch to a purer 4-3, and if so what about the guys we have?

I can't help thinking that a 4-3 would suit Sweat, Allen, Payne and Ionnidis (assuming Kerrigan is gone), and that maybe it means we don't need Young and therefore trade down. Can't help thinking we need help at too many other positions (CB, FS, OL) to draft an out and out pass rusher again. Of course Young would make the front 4 instantly more dangerous, but is he a luxury at this point?

My take: yes he hires a DC, zero chance he retains Manusky. He will switch to a 4-3.

Steve Wilkes. He knows if needs to win Manusky is not his DC.

Saw on twitter, no quote, that he is likely to bring Wilkes with him unless he gets a better offer..

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

While I like the idea of Ron becoming a head coach for Redskins, I'm not happy about the fact that Snyder and whoever else is involved in this are making all the moves before hiring a GM.. I just hope this means we are promoting someone (Smith) to GM, this would means that the person is involved in this whole process.

Re: Ron Rivera Thread

Maybe Joe Gibbs is part of that outside group Danny has been working with. Joe lives in Charlotte, same as Ron. Why not pay him a visit and discuss the possibility of coaching the Redskins.

Is anyone not concerned that a GM is not being hired and running the search for a HC?

I am a little but from what has been said, Ron has FULL control

This is an excellent hire. He is definitely one of the best coaches in football and the Panthers were stupid to fire him.

I think whoever the GM is going to be is already on board with Rivera

Carolina already regrets that, they were at least competitive and since he was fired they have been horrible
