What the hell do you want him to say in public on a dumb little interview?
I would expect Shanahan not to sound like Zorn. :D
Shanahan says a lot of things, and I don't put much stock into half of them.
Exactly, don't give anything Shanahan says between January and April any stock. This doesn't impact anything going forward. He's already acknowledged a need for a franchise QB, #1 WR and he called Helu a nice 'change of pace back' which could be an indication that he is looking at a feature back (Hillis perhaps?) as well.

Re: Shanahan said what?

People need to worry more about what Shanny does and less about what he says. I don't give a damn what he tells reporters in an interview. The fact that they are trying to trade up for RG3 and looking at Peyton speaks volumes to what he really thinks. Any time Shanny gets cornered by a reporter between now and the draft they are going to get nonsense from him meant to divert attention from his true intentions.

I don't see anything wrong with what he said makes sense to me.

Does he know how many games we won?
Did he even notice our QB situation?
WTF?

Eh, they finished 4 games behind the super bowl champs, lost 2 games to missed field goals, started John Beck for 3 games, lost Cooley, Licktensteiger and Hankerson to injury and Davis and Williams to stupidity and had a QB who averaged 2 turnovers a game.

All that said, they did suck, but I can see how Shanny rationalizes it in his head. Also, you have to take everything he says with a grain of salt.

Shanahan...loves to screw with the media, and the public. Listen to any of his pressers. It's obvious.
However, through all, there is never a shortage of people.....biting on his every word and scrutinizing same.
Take the hook out of your mouth.......

I found this pretty interesting:
I can't tell you how many times I/we've had a guy that we [wanted] get picked (snaps fingers) just before our pick
I hope Shanahan was talking I/we in the global sense meaning over the course of his entire coaching career and not just his time in Washington.
Because that's the distinct feeling a got from last years draft.
It wasn't that they chose not to draft a QB but they were a pick late when it matter most more then once.

Re: Shanahan said what?

The way we started the season, I really thought we would at least sneak into the playoffs. I never predicted a Division title, or Super bowl, but i thought we had turned the corner.

We had good play at QB. Rex really didnt' start averaging 2 turnovers a game until he lost a bunch of guys on offense and started trying to do to much. Up to that point we were playing good with the guys we had. Starting Beck eliminated our chances of playoffs, or a winning record. I think worst case scenario with Rex in there, we would have been 8 and 8, and still going to the playoffs, but more likely we would have finished much better...

That's why it pays to reach sometimes. As Parcells said, better a round early than a pick late.

Re: Shanahan said what?

One thing that's interesting about the 2011 Redskins is that -- following the Week 5 bye -- the defense was actually somewhat worse in terms of expected points than it was in 2010. The 2010 defense was essentially an average unit (like the 2009 defense) that happened to have one of the single worst nights in NFL history. And while 2011 appeared to be an improvement on that side of the ball, they ended up as a very solid unit for about four games, and then after the bye, they were pretty bad.

If you take out the three John Beck starts, the offense seems to weather the injuries just fine. It was never a great unit, but it finished the season a long stronger than the defense did.

I think you can reasonably project the Redskins offense as a slightly above average unit in 2012 given the expected talent influx (though probably short of the playoff caliber unit the Shanahan's claim it to already be). But you can't do the same for the defense. Unless Jarvis Jenkins is the next coming of Richard Seymour, the defense could completely collapse unless Orakpo and Kerrigan both play 16 game seasons again, and keep the defenses head above water.

Things do not look good on that side of the ball, particularly if Landry walks.
if it were not for all the fumbles lost, the interceptions thrown, and the holding penalties, we would have been in the playoffs!
a interception or fumble return for a score every few centuries would have helped also
